Good Sci Fi RPG ?

Hello, I'm looking for recommendations on a Sci Fi game to play. I've heard good things about Traveller. Thanks!
ShadowRun, so long as you don't mind Fantasy in your Sci-Fi. There is also Eclipse Phase, CthulhuTech (so long as you don't mind horror fantasy in your sci-fi), Transhuman Space (GURPS), and the aforementioned Traveller (which has various setting books including Babylon 5 and Judge Dredd). There is also Numenera, but that's a ways away from being completed it (only mentioned because I'm mentioning everything off the top of my head). If you don't mind the system (or willing to convert another system) there is Rifts, but again this game has elements of fantasy.
If you want I could send you a link to join a new sci-fi game I'm running. It's homebrew but if you aren't looking for a specific game so much as a general idea I'd be more then happy to let you join in and see it.
Thanks! Plenty of options. I'll have to do some research on these titles.

Stars Without Number (it's free!) and Other Dust (for a post-apoc option).
Star Hero, using the Hero System is also good- it even has a Star Trek version done up. The system is fairly easy to play, but character creation can be a bear and-- if you're players are new-- will be an entire session by itself. (I'm actually starting up an ALIEN LEGION campaign system using the Hero System-- we're just getting organized and not many seem to know the system, so taking a while-- feel free to check it out. It's listed in the LFGs.) As to the other systems, I'll vouch for both Traveller (done both LBB and d20 versions) and Shadowrun (1st ed thru 3rd, I think), both a lot of fun. Traveller is all space travel and new planets. Shadowrun is Gibson-esque cyberworld, still Earth based tho (unless things changed radically in the time line of the editions). There are also multiple versions of Star Wars out there: the old version (was it Mayfair?), the d20 version, the revised d20 version, and the new Saga edition (I've played all but the Saga-- they're pretty fun). If you're looking post-apocalypse and aren't worried by complexity, Aftermath was awesome. If you want easy and fun-frilled ala D&D early editions, then you can't beat Star Frontiers. Can't think of any others off the top of my head.
Eclipse Phase is really awesome. And it's free.
These all sound great. I'm not really picky and would be interested in most of these although I might pick up a Aftermath book to read up on. There are a few Star Frontiers books at my parents house I need to dig up (having a 80s flashback).
I'm running the Judge Dredd game using the Traveller rules - so far we've had a sniper shoot out atop mile high city blocks, a thousand '2T Fru(T) victims attacking the Atlantic Wall by hover surfboards, and most recently a war droid attack on a sub city zoom train. I suppose, thinking about it, there are so many different flavours of Sci-Fi that you bring what you want to a game - I like the Traveller system for that, but this is the only game I've played with that system.

All the books have been made available for free (legally with publisher's authorization) and there is even some new stuff in a fanzine. It's here: http://starfrontiersman.com/downloads/remastered
silcore from dream pod 9 but its very hard sci-fy.
Eclipse Phase is awesome highly recommended. I've always been into the Star Wars rpgs too.
I absolutely LOVE Rogue Trader . If you are looking for space exploration but with a good bit of fantasy thrown in then it is the game for you. You can download the "Free Game Day" adventure at Fantasy Flight's website to try it out and see if you like it. You can download the intro adventure HERE The support page also has a lot of PDFs you can download for additional information on the setting and game.
I picked up the Aftermath Survival Guide and ShadowRun Core Rules. If anyone is interested in playing either of these games feel free to contact me. Also if anyone is looking to play Star Frontier or another of the games that have free PDFs I'm down to play! Thanks for all the help!
Curious what you think of Aftermath. It does have a complex rules system compared to most roleplaying games these days, and it had a bit of a reputation for being too complex or in some people's eye unplayable..
I would also look into the Eclipse Phase pdfs which you can download from the authors for free here: http://robboyle.wordpress.com/eclipse-phase-pdfs/
I will echo my love Eclipse Phase one more time. I'm thinking of putting together a short campaign arc sometime once I get a chance to find or create art that I like.
Well I might as well try throwing my hat in the ring. I'm looking to build two game groups on Monday Nights that involves Science Fiction game. Here's link to the post. http://app.roll20.net/forum/post/70586/stellar-winds#post-71008
I'll play eclipse! I was looking at the corerule book and almost picked it up. Looked very interesting but I didn't know if it would be hard to find a group. @warren c. I haven't even opened the Aftermath book yet. I found a cheap copy on ebay, plan going through it this weekend.
The Warhammer 40K RPGs are pretty good Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War ( I'm not so sure about this one, it is new)

You can check the game out in PDF for free! Then buy something to support the devs. http://robboyle.wordpress.com/eclipse-phase-pdfs/
For sci-fi RPGs, I highly recommend Star Wars Saga Edition, Star Trek (Last Unicorn Games), Stars Without Number, Mechwarrior, and Alternity.

Uploading and re-sleeving are really cool concepts in this game too.
I'm totally down to play Eclipse Phase and have the corebook! Lets do this!
