Question about purchasing manuals&compendiums

Hi everyone, first post ever. Me and some friends are planning to start playing online to D&D 5e. Most of us already own at least a copy of player's handbook but I do not and I'm considering to buy it here. My question is: if I purchase the book in roll20, can I have some sort of pdf for me to print it and use it in physical games or will I only be able to check it in roll20?

Hello and welcome :) no pdf but you can access the compendium without the need to launch a game :) soo if you can access a tablet or your phone during the game.. it's ok

As Pantoufle said. But yes, you have access to both the in-app features of the compendium (search, drag and drop, charactermancer options, etc) as well as the out-game compendium (Tools > Compendiums) where you can easily search anything you need and have it come right up. 🌞
