[LFP] [5E] Looking for 1 player for RP Heavy Pirate campaign

Edited 1540964460
Hello, The game is on Tuesdays, and we begin at 4pm PST, and run for 4 hours, with a short break in the middle. I'm in search of one player to join in on a game of fifth edition that has a heavy emphasis on roleplay, drama, and player interaction, where combat is often not always the right answer, and often has consequence and repercussions. I want the characters to feel like people, and have genuine and interesting interactions with the world as a whole, and the party members to have a lot of great banter and interactions with one another, and I aim to give plenty of opportunity for players to pursue these interactions. I aim to have a more gritty and real feel to the world, as I feel that the pirate themes require some attention to violence, depravity, and disease to make the world feel real and genuine, as such there will be mature themes at play, and any applicants should be 18+, and willing to be exposed to these aspects of play. The game will still have a healthy dose of magic, monsters, and strangeness. The mysticism and magic of Pirates of the Caribbean meets the gritty reality of Game of Thrones. We are only just beginning this campaign, having had session 1, where the party was press ganged by a vile pirate lord and taken out to see, facing the trials of life aboard a ship where punishments can be harsh, and those around them unfriendly. The aim is to survive long enough until the party can find an opportunity to win their freedom, and enough friends to survive that attempt. If you're interested in the game please post in the thread, or PM me the following information: Applications for the game should include: Name: Age: Gaming Experience: A little about yourself: Describe your playing style: What are you looking for from the game? What are you looking for from the DM? A brief outline of what sort of character you might like to play, Race/Class/Alignment, and anything else pertinent, as well as let me know if you're dead set on a specific character class or race combination, or if you're more flexible with what you'll play. I'm potentially open to third party materials, though this will be on a case by case basis, and I'll be scrutinizing it fairly heavily.
Name: Parker Age: 20 Gaming Experience: About 2 Years of fifth addition, both as a GM and player. Loving every second of it so far :D A little about yourself: Im a chill guy, really into movies and music. If you wanna argue about whether a deck of cards in 5E is INT or DEX im not your guy, but I can do a pretty good impression  of Macho Man Randy Savage, the maddest lad out there right now. So that's pretty neato I think Describe your playing style:  Definitely more into RP. I love feeling like my character can make noticeable changes in the world. Not to say I hate combat and planning characters on a more mechanical level, because I'm as down for a meta-game murder hobo one-shot every once in a while as the next guy. It's just more likely that i'll be the guy wondering about a cooler backstory first. What are you looking for from the game? Honestly I'm just looking for a rich world to immerse myself in. I love all the aspects of D&D, so if you favor one pillar over another, that's still groovy in my book What are you looking for from the DM? Just looking for someone with a passion for storytelling, not just DMing because they figure "Why not". I've had alot of Dms recently that just sort of shirk that responsibility and don't take the game seriously. That's just not the kind of game I'm looking for, ya know. I'm all about the goofs, but sometimes i'm just looking for someone who cares about their world and the story they want to tell. I like the Idea of a Monk Pirate, no Longer content with their life of tranquility, and hoping to make a tougher living on the open seas. I'm hoping to get more info on the world and other characters before I settle on anything. Hope to hear from ya, and thanks for your consideration
Name: Jay Age: 39 Gaming Experience: A lot. I know, have played in, and run dozens of systems over the past couple decades. I haven't played 5e because... A little about yourself: ...I don't really like D&D.  However, my other games have concluded and I'm thinking that I should give D&D 5e an honest try.  I usually but not exclusively play social or character-focused RPGs. I'm not a fan of high-fantasy, D&D-tropes, or OOC-planned maximally  efficient tactical combat and they're often D&D's focus.  I spend a lot of time watching and/or reading RPG theory and discussions. Adam Koebel, Matt Coville, podcast, discussion forums, the old Forge stuff...  Humility aside, I and the people I play with think I'm an excellent player. I've certainly been doing it for long enough to have picked up some tricks. Describe your playing style: The DMG lists some broad-stroke player types on page 8. I'm an actor, storyteller, and instigator. I'm always good for some funny scenes, but more dramatic tension invariably happens. My last game involved my character trying to sacrifice himself to save the PC who he began a relationship with, only to have him fail and be saved by her, then the two fled into the sunset after literally setting the town on fire. All the players (GM incl) were riveted. My character before that committed suicide after (falsely) learning that his PC-played-sister died in what was the most gut-wrenching scene I've ever seen, heard, or even dreamt of (there might have been more than a little crying for the players involved). My characters are personality-first, rules-second. I see rules as (hopefully) providing support for the kind of story that we all agree to tell and not as something to puzzle and angle and use to succeed for xp and loot. Xp and loot aren't really carrots for me, but I'll be sure to lay out my characters' motivations up front. What are you looking for from the game? Mostly I'm looking for a handful of sessions to see 5e in a drama-focused game. IMO, it's not the right tool for the job, but I'm keeping an open mind on it to see for myself. I do like games that follow plot arcs with closure over perpetual-running stories. However, that's your call and I'm not pushing for it. I get that there will almost certainly be elements of the game that aren't 'for me', but I'm a respectful enough player to go along with it and support others. However, if you have players that rush to weapons and kill without consequence, this won't be for me. Strangely, I find violence interesting only when it is *really* problematic, like in say Blades in the Dark. What are you looking for from the DM? A big selling point for me is that you play other games and so I expect you have experience with games that move away from tactical combat.  I expect a DM to be there with hooks but then guide play based on what players show interest in. Railroading isn't for me. I actually don't expect the DM to be a rules-expert or the-voice-of-fairness at the table - I can speak on that at length, but won't here.  I expect a fairly high degree of narrative authority and freedom from the DM on the promise that it isn't used to 'win' the game or screw with others. Don't we all want to Play To Find Out? Character: I don't like to make characters in a vacuum. I'd like to know more about the setting and in particular the other characters. I'm slightly concerned about being a session late to the party, as it makes integration a bit trickier, but that just takes a bit more effort, which I'm willing to do. I'm *that guy* (mostly due to primarily being a GM) who asks probing questions of other characters during character creation and proposing existing relationships and the like. Strangers meeting at a tavern isn't for me. I'm very flexible with what I'd play. I'd want to play something appropriate for the setting and tied into the others' backstories. I'm much less interested in filling whatever 'missing' role the party needs to form a 'balanced party'. I guess my one caveat would be that I'm not a fan of high magic, so I'd steer away from those classes/races.
