Shin Megami Tensei Recruit

Hello I'm Wolf and I am dying to play SMT but I don't own any systems their on nor have money to buy it right now... So I was thinking about getting some people on here to possibly roleplay it. Now not sure what system to use maybe a made up one would work best but I wanna do one. Also I must admit I can only do text based games.
Perhaps use an SRD of an existing game? Or get together a set of rules you'd like to use ahead of time. Also, for SMT, helps to know what era, considering SMT 1 took place in the 90s, SMT 2 took place in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk setting (that the MMO also uses), and SMT 3 took place in the aughties during and immediately after an apocalyptic event. Then there's the spin-offs to consider if you're planning on running something in one of those settings, like Persona (Inner-power manifested), Strange Journey (dimensional shennanigans with no magic), or even Last Bible (Low fantasy high magic medieval-era). Just some things to consider for your elevator pitch!
I think an SMT game would require a lot of time and effort, since you'd have to work out a demon fusion system.

I'm into the Persona series, so if you're wanting to play something like that I'm definitely interested. Also, for a system, you could use something like Fate. It's a generic system you craft to whatever you need, and the book is pay what you want, here: http://www.faterpg.com/
I've seen people suggest Geist: The Sin-Eaters for Persona games. I've never played Geist, so I wouldn't know how well that'd work.
I really don't know geist myself hmm.

The Geist PDF costs $20, something to consider.
I've been playing around, and I think it's possible to homebrew something with the FUDGE mechanics (the ones that FATE is built off of). I haven't quite figured it all yet, but I'm thinking of foregoing the traditional Skills system, and instead having Attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Magic, Agility, Luck) and Knowledges (I've got 16 different ones so far). Everything would be covered under rolling those. I've also been thinking about Demon Fusion. I'm thinking have each Race have a set amount of demons in it, and each demon is assigned a tier. When you fuse two demons together, you consult the chart to see what the resulting Demon's race would be, and then find the median between their tiers to determine which demon is produced. I mad a mock-up chart with only six races: Divine, Vile, Fairy, Beast, Fallen, and Foul. I'm thinking for Fusion Accidents, maybe have the player roll their Fudge dice for every fusion. If they get four minuses, then they end up with a Slime, whereas if they roll four Pluses, they get a Famed type demon. Beyond that, I haven't worked out any mechanics. What do you guys think? And do you have any suggestions?
Hmm Maybe fusion is too complicated to turn into a mechanic? And I think Persona would be easist to turn into a rpg. Everyone has choice of three Personas to choose form at will hows that?

I agree, it seems too complicated to try to come up with something just for this game. We could just have each player get a few Personas to use, or just have the one that evolves over time. How different is FUDGE from Fate? It seems the rolling is pretty similar with the four dice.
I'm mostly famlier with changeling/world of darkness rules.
I like shin megami tensei! I would love to play if you are able to make this happen

Doing something with Fate, or FUDGE if it's similar, shouldn't be hard. It's a very simple system by design. Wolf, would you be GMing or were you wanting someone else to do so?
I came up with the idea if someone can give me a run down or a free pdf of this system I'll study it to the best of my abilities or perhaps we can compromise? And have a partnarship with someone who knows it and I can deal with more... asthetic side of things?

Are we still interested in playing? If you wanted to check out Fate or Fudge to see, here's the links: Fate: http://www.evilhat.com/home/fate-core-downloads/ Fudge: http://fudgerpg.com/goodies/fudge-files/core/ Personally, I think Fate looks better and easier to use, if only because it's more modern. Any luck with finding a different system?
Not really I suppose we could just make an easy to use costum system

Yeah, the point of Fate/Fudge is just for things like this, where a system doesn't exist for what you want. You just change what skills/aspects you need.
Hmm okay then I'll look at it
The Persona flavor of SMT would probably be a pretty good fit for Fate. Most characters besides the main character have a single persona that occasionally changes. I think that'd be best for group play instead of having every character fuse and switch personas like crazy. You can have a few aspects to represent your persona's strengths and weaknesses, and a few stunts to represent their abilities. You might be able to do some cool things with tarot cards in game. It might also be interesting to do a devil summoner variant of SMT, but you actually have to role play making demon pacts. Each deal gives you an aspect with some free invokes, but the demons might call in favors. If you want to do more with fusion or have a large catalog of demons to summon each with detailed stats and abilities, you probably want something other than Fate.
I think just focusing on the simple parts be best in translating a game into an rpg.

Yeah, I think the plan for just having a single Persona that evolves would work best, getting into the fusions and all of the dozens of different ones would be too complicated for what we want.
I agree so should I be gm or does someone else want to do it I'll just be co gm?
