Hello! My name is Brandon, but people also call me Flash (like The Flash, not Flash Gordon). I’ll be turning 25 in February, so hopefully that’s okay. I played D&D a bit in high school, and I was a DM in college and for about a year after graduating, but I strongly prefer being a player. However, I do have a healthy respect for how much time and effort goes into preparing a game now. I’ve been using 5e for about two years now, but I’ve never been a part of an online game before; I’m excited to try it out! I grew up in Michigan, and recently moved to Virginia for a job as an assistant video editor. Your plan for joining up full-time in January would work perfectly for me, and playing a couple one-shots sounds like fun as well! I am typically always available on weekends, and would never cancel if I can help it.
I’d also like to mention that your DMing style sounds like exactly what I’d hope for in a DM. The style, voices, various genres, and inspiration wells all sound very exciting!
To address your questions, I’m a friendly and upbeat person with a amicable attitude. I am laid-back about things that don’t matter, but I do care about things that are important. I typically get along great with everyone, so long as they aren’t an insufferable ass, which it sounds like shouldn’t be a problem with your group.
One of the things I really love is superheroes; any character with superpowers, really. I’m especially a fan of the DC comics characters (hence the nickname), but I enjoy characters from a wide variety of sources, including Marvel (especially Spider-Man and Deadpool), One Piece, Doctor Who, My Hero Academia, and many others. Another of my big passions is gaming. I’m mostly a single-player gamer, because a good story is what I really love in a game, though gameplay is also a huge part, though I also love to play multiplayer games like Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. Some of my all-time favorite games include Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Horizon: Zero Dawn, the Batman Arkham series, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
As for pet peeves, my only major one would be constant, non-stop complaining. Sure, we all complain from time to time, and that’s fine, but if every other thing out of your mouth is aimless bitching, that drives me nuts. Being maliciously mean is another; not to be confused with friendly teasing and messing around, but when it’s specifically meant to hurt, that’s a no-go.
A little about the character: I’m not 100% locked in to anything, because I’d like to make sure I’d mesh well with the world you’ve built and the rest of the party, and I’m guessing I’d probably start near level 6 like the others, but this is an idea I’ve been toying with for a while. A tiefling Life Cleric main/Sorcerer secondary named Uncertainty, or Cert for short. He is 25 years old, 5’9”, 180lbs, with dark red skin, short red hair, gold eyes, and horns that curve up and out to the side of his head (in a U-shape).
Cert was left at a temple of one of the Good gods (dependent on what pantheon you’re using) as an infant. As a tiefling, some of the priests were unsure whether or not to accept him into the temple, while others were sure it was the right thing to do. In the end he was allowed to remain, though this initial struggle did give him his name. While he never knew his biological family, his adoptive family at the temple is very dear to him. The temple was often visited by adventurers, travelers, and merchants (again, DM permitting), so Cert grew up hearing exciting tales of far-off lands. Of course, being a tiefling, not all visitors were amicable toward him (perhaps even most?), but Cert remained undeterred, always at least attempting to talk to all visitors.
On his tenth birthday Cert discovered, as most tieflings do, that he had an aptitude for magic. Combined with his belief in the teachings of the temple and his lust for the life of an adventurer, his decision to train in the ways of a Cleric came as a surprise to no one. He would often assist in defending the temple and the surrounding area from monsters and orcs, often accompanying groups of adventurers on nearby quests. However, it was only fairly recently that Cert finally set out from the temple to finally pursue the life of adventure he’s dreamed of.
Cert typically fights using a mace, and he typically focuses on using healing magic, though he isn’t adverse to using his magic in other ways by any means. He believes in doing good and helping others, even if he may have to break some rules. He is very loyal to those who have proven they are trustworthy, and he never goes back on his word if he can help it. When people try to harass him simply for being a tiefling, Cert just ignores them unless they physically attack him, in which case he does not hesitate to defend himself.
