Chapter 3.2 (Session 67, 27th November 2018)

In which our heroes continue to be amazed   Book Two, Chapter 3.2 (session 67, 27 th November 2018)   The Party: Naergon Harna, elven wizard (Diviner) Mads Rangle, human fighter/warlock (Fiend: Archdevil Zariel) Jamna Gleamsilver, gnome rogue (Arcane Trickster) Tomaz Stormwind, human ranger (Hunter) Druscilla Oakenrock, dwarven cleric (Trickery: Mask) Talis Wintercrest, half-elven cleric (War: Bane)   Mads swings his glaive and leaves and stalks fly everywhere as he chops into the nearest plant. Druscilla drops her crossbow, pulls a mace and swats the closest plant. Naergon urges them on from the back but does nothing assist. Tomaz, retires down the path behind Naergon saying “ I suggest we disengage from these beautiful flowers and came back to the path. I have a plan .” Talis steps forward to where Tomaz was, saying “ I’ve always wanted to fill Tomaz’s boots ” and casts Spirit Guardians. The spectral images of ghouls and demonic faces swirl around her, snapping and snarling and tearing chunks out of the nearest plants. The plants to either side reach out with their tentacles, two of them grapple Mads, Jamna is grappled by three and slammed into the ground, Druscilla is grappled by one of the southern plants which then slams her and bites her. Jamna misty steps [bonus action] away down the path.   Mads casts Misty Step [bonus action] and also moves away down the path alongside Jamna. Druscilla activates her helmet and teleports after Mads, as she reappears, she says “ I have one more teleport left, I say I use it and get us all direct to the tower balcony, I’ve had enough of this damn maze!”  “Sounds good to me” replies Tomaz, looking around and finding the tower is currently about 200 yards away to the left. “ yes, works for me says Mads, do it!” Naergon interjects rather morosely “ it won’t work, the tower, or us, this maze is a dimensional maze, the tower is somewhere else, I doubt very much we can just teleport straight there but feel free to try ”.  Meanwhile Talis keeps the nearest plants firmly within the cordon of her Spirit Guardians, leaves and branches withering as the spectral ghouls and fiends reach for them. Jamna, looks around and says “ if we’re going let’s just do it ”.   Druscilla activates her helmet, everything shimmers, there’s an instant where the maze almost phases out of existence then there’s a loud shrieking noise, ozone fills the air and with a staggering jolt the party find themselves back exactly where they were. “ See, told you that wouldn’t work” says Naergon “ I just knew that was going to happen, trust me there’s some weird interdimensional sorcery going on with this maze. I don’t think we are where we think we are.” “Well, it was worth trying” says Druscilla “ but that’s it I can’t try that again until after dawn tomorrow.” “We’d best hope we don’t need to then ” Naergon replies.   Druscilla turns to Tomaz “ So, you told us all to come back here because you had a plan. What is it? What’s your plan for dealing with the plants” “Oh. No. My plan was to teleport to the tower”. “Best think again dearie” calls Talis “ has anyone else got any spells that they can put up to just mow these damn things down? Come on guys think harder, and I’m beginning to wonder if I made the deal with the right people!” Naergon sniffs and takes a few more steps back along the path away from the plants. Tomaz also takes a step back, staying with Naergon. “Oh great, I’ll just stand here then and kill stuff on my own, shall I?” grumbles Talis as her shrieking guardians continue to drain the life from the nearest plants. The plants’ tentacles wave frantically but can’t reach anyone. Jamna mutters “ oh very well” and casts ray of frost into the closest plant, leaves freeze, curl and drop.   Mads steps forward behind Talis and whispers “ duck!” and casts three eldritch blasts, leaves and branches disintegrate as they slam into the heart of the nearest plant. Druscilla steps up alongside him and casts blade barrier in a line right along the flower bed to the south, razor sharp blades start threshing through the plants causing immense damage. “That’s more like it” cries Talis as she advances her spirit guardians, behind her Jamna again pumps a ray of frost into the plants on the north.   Over the next couple of minutes between Druscilla’s blades and Talis’ spirits with Mads and Jamna adding their spells from behind all the plants are killed and the path made safe. “ Well done party” says Naergon finally stepping forward, “ no thanks to you” Talis curls her lip. Jamna collects the pearls that fall from the plants and starts to head down the path. “Hold on Jamna ” calls Naergon “ I’m done with this maze, I say we just chop through the hedges in a direct line for the tower. That way it’s about two hundred yards away, let’s just cut our own path .” Tomaz mutters from the back “ I don’t think that cutting through the maze, a magical maze. A maze you describe as interdimensional Naergon is really going to work very well” “Nonetheless, we shall try it” says Naergon “ nothing else has worked well, so we’ve little to lose at this point. Mads would you please oblige?”   Mads lays into the hedge with gusto and soon cuts a gap through which the party can push their way through, emerging on the other side onto another path that twists away to left and right between high hedgerows. “I t’s another path , just the same as the last one ” cries Mads. “ do not worry about that, just keep hacking through, the straight line is the best line ” declares Naergon. Tomaz turns to Druscilla “ I realise that you used your last teleport for the day but do you think a spell such as dimension door would suffer the same result?” “Probably ” says Druscilla “it’s very similar magic, I can’t see why one would work if the other did not, it’s probably that the tower is warded”   In the meantime, Mads cuts through the hedge again, and emerges once more onto a curving path, running left and right. Looking around he sees the tower, now some four hundred yards away and off to the far right. “ Well so much for the straight line Naergon ” he calls as Naergon steps through. “I hate this maze, it’s just interdimensional weirdness, cutting through hedges won’t work” grumbles the elf as he turns and stomps off down the right-hand path.   After a few minutes’ walk the party emerges once more into the sundial intersection, the shadows pointing to all points of the compass. Upon arrival Druscilla and Talis cast curing spells whilst they debate what to do next. “ Well what’s your plan Naergon?” asks Tomaz. “ It’s not a plan, as I said before anyone can go left, anyone can go right. I don’t care.” “You were the one suggested this course of action, so we are following you ” replies Tomaz.   Druscilla interrupts “It doesn’t mean he has to go first Tomaz” “ Mads, jump on the dial, like you did last time ” suggests Naergon “ Are you going to do the same?” queries Mads. “ Yes!” confirms Naergon, “ You do remember the result, last time, when we jumped into the sundial?” asks Mads. “ Yes, we ended up somewhere else, somewhere we couldn’t have reached otherwise, that’s the point! Naergon replies.   “ Look, maybe jumping through the sundial is the way we navigate. Maybe the maze is a kind of 3D effect thing, so you kind of have to jump into different levels of the maze. I don’t know, but that’s what I think it might be ” explains Naergon. Talis chimes in “ Yes, dear but last time the shadows shrank back into the sundial, this isn’t the same.” “Ah, yes they did . . .” mutters Naergon. Talis continues “ they’re different this time, therefore I think we can assume that this time we need to do something different dearie. Don’t you?” “I don’t know why we listen to you” snaps Naergon. “ Oh, that’s nice, isn’t it? Very charming ” snarks Talis. “ Actually, it’s not just Talis saying it Naergon ” Tomaz interjects “ things are different this time” “Oh please don’t tell me Tomaz agrees with me ” mutters Talis. “ Yes, he does” confirms Naergon “but he isn’t coming up with any new ideas either”.   “Err, no, my idea is that if we keep our shadows pointing directly away from the tower then we’re on the right path. Every time we come here our shadows and the tower are in different locations. Only the sundial shadow remains the same. We should follow the variable”. Tomaz explains. “Mads turns around, “so you want to go that way?” pointing to the path adjacent to the one they just emerged from. “ Yes!” confirms Toma. “ Ok, then, let’s do that” says Mads keen to be doing something. “ Yes, let’s follow Tomaz’s plan ” says Naergon sarcastically. “ Come on then off you go”.   As they walk, Mads asks Druscilla “ Do you have any theories?” She replies “ not really, there doesn’t appear to be any logical method to it. If we assume, we are always teleporting back to the same place, and that the sundial is actually always in the same equidistance of the tower . . .” “It’s difficult to judge that though ” interrupts Mads. “ We should be able to work it out, none of us are stupid, especially Naergon . . .” Druscilla starts to answer when Talis interjects “ I beg to differ dear. I think it’s fair to say that some of you are stupid!” “. . . err, well yes some of us maybe ” stutters Druscilla. “ She may be talking about me ” whispers Mads. “ Yes, quite ” continues Druscilla. “ Anyway, I think Naergon should be able to calculate if the tower is the same height and if it looks to be at the same distance each time. If it looks the same distance, then we only have to go down each path and eliminate them.”   After a few minutes walking they emerge into a large open space with a placid circular pool in its centre. A stout pagoda rises from a huge boulder that stands in the water like an island. An arched bridge crosses the water to the pagoda, whose red roof is held up by six sturdy pillars, capped with carved fish. A human male wearing yellow silk robes embroidered with red and gold fish stands in the pagoda. From somewhere, unseen the sound of exotic music being played on a stringed instrument fills the area. The path continues and exits the space on the opposite side.   The robed figure bows to the party, moves into the pagoda, and sits down on the boulder where it protrudes through the floor of the pagoda. He waits patiently in a pose of contemplation, eyes shut. Around the boulder, the floor of the pagoda is not wooden, but rather is a rock garden of decorative stones and brushed sand. A charcoal pit smoulders beside the boulder where the man sits.   Tomaz steps forward, bows and declaims “ Greetings, good sir. How are you?” There is no response, the figure doesn’t acknowledge the speech in any way. Tomaz turns to the group “I suggest we walk forward courteously” and proceeds into the courtyard remarking “ what a lovely pagoda. I do like your pool, very relaxing. The carvings of those fish are remarkable, quite exquisite.” Arriving at the far exit, he turns to the rest of the party, points at the exit and beckons them to follow.   Meanwhile Mads walks up to the bridge and looks straight at the figure sat on the boulder and says “ Oi, mate! We’re trying to get through the maze, can you help us? Tell us which way to go? Also, if you’re interested would you like to have a fight with me?” The figure does not speak, he opens his eyes, looks directly at Mads, smiles and makes a sweeping gesture, indicating the soft silk cushions arrayed in a ring around him. Clearly offering Mads a seat, before once again closing his eyes and adopting his contemplative pose. Mads, crosses the bridge and takes a seat on one of the cushions, mimicking the same pose.   Druscilla, Jamna and Talis follow Mads and take a seat on the cushions in front of the strange figure. “I don’t know what Naergon is planning but we might as well sit and be comfortable in the meantime, eh Maddsy?” says Talis as she sits, just a little too close to him. Mads begins to tell stories based around the exploits of Maglubiyet to see if he can get a response. The figure appears to listen but does not interact with him or respond. He sits in the same pose throughout.   Tomaz calls out “ the exit is here, what are you doing?” Mads replies “ I think this guy probably knows stuff, we should talk to him” “Yeah, fine. But there’s an exit here, right now. We should go ” calls Tomaz. “ Strangely, I find myself agreeing with Tomaz” calls Naergon from the entrance as he starts to walk towards the exit. “I mean have you not worked out yet that this maze is just weird? Nothing good happens here, Nothing! Good!” he shouts. “Yes, I realise that” says Mads “ but I think some things need to be interacted with”.   “Bah ” returns Naergon “we’ve interacted with plants, we’ve interacted with cyclops throwing rocks, we’ve interacted with all sorts and nothing is good. Nothing!” Mads continues, “ this is the first thing that looks like it can actually speak to us, none of us can speak cyclops or plant but hopefully we can speak monk!” “ Nope! I think it’s a well dodgy set up and I think you’re insane to interact with it ” huffs Naergon “ at the end of the day six of us get to sit in a pagoda, and the gods know what will happen then. I’m not sitting in there, nope, no way. Painful as it is for me to admit this but I actually agree with Tomaz. I think we should just follow the path.”   Mads sighs and turns to the monk “ are you actually going to say anything? If you’re not going to speak, I’m going to leave” The figure, dips his head slightly, smiles and says nothing. Naergon calls “if you really want to provoke a reaction why don’t you give him a poke with your glaive?” “Because that seems unnecessarily aggressive” replies Mads as he gets up and leaves the pagoda. Jamna and Druscilla stand and begin to follow Mads. Talis, still reclining says “Aw, well that was nice whilst it lasted. We got to sit down for a while in peace and quiet with nice music. If only someone had brought wine.” Then she slowly stands, bows at the monk and follows the rest over the bridge.   Naergon laughs, turns to Tomaz “ come on then, you’re in charge, we’re following. Off you go, lead on!” With that Tomaz leads the party off down the winding path. After a couple of minutes, they turn a corner and find themselves once again at the entrance to the open glade with the pagoda in the centre of a pool. Whether the same space or a different one is impossible to tell. The silk robed human, bows gestures to the pagoda and walks over the bridge to sit down.   Druscilla turns to Naergon “ will you come and sit on the cushions with us this time?” adding “ Mads have you noticed the tower is in a different location this time, has it moved or is this a different place?” Naergon looks at the monk in the pagoda, mutters something and casts a firebolt. “ Woah” shouts Mads “ I thought I was the impulsive one here, what are you doing?” Talis grins “ well that’s a decision made, honey” and Tomaz groans “ no, no, no this isn’t the way” as Jamna mutters “ time for sneaking and talking is over, time for killing now” and starts to string her bow.
The firebolt slams into the monk as Naergon steps back behind everyone else, out of line of sight. Mads advances to the right and casts eldritch blast at the monk, knocking him off his boulder and up against one of the pagoda pillars. Jamna runs after Mads and shoots but misses, her arrow slamming into the wooden pillar. Tomaz calls “I’m really sorry about this good sir. I can only apologise for the reckless behaviour of my companions, I assure you that a full report will be made to their superiors. Personally, I mean you no ill will at all”. The monk casts a spell and across the entrance the ground heaves and roils forming a twenty-foot deep ditch and twenty-foot deep wall blocking the entrance off from the open space beyond. He then jumps off the pagoda into the pool. Talis says “ well that’s interesting, not much I can do about that. Not that I’m entirely certain I want to be on the other side anyway. I think I’ll just stay here with you Naergon, you’ve always been my favourite you know ” Druscilla also looks around “ I can’t do anything either ”.   Naergon stands and looks at the mound of earth and also does nothing. “ We’ll be having words with that wizard later Jamna but for now it looks like its you and me ” and with that he moves to his right to get a line of sight on the monk and casts eldritch blast again, hitting him again and moving him back through the pool, slamming him against the bank. Jamna moves to her left to get a line of sight and casts true strike on the monk. Tomaz calls out “ I really am very sorry about this Mr. Monk. Please don’t take the rash actions of my companions to task. I’m sure they are very, very sorry for their actions” . The monk moves around the pagoda away from Jamna and casts a spell. The earth in front of Mads bubble sand roils as the immense form of an earth elemental emerges. At the entrance the earth stops moving and the ditch and bank solidify. Talis, turns to Naergon “what do we do?” “Yes Naergon” asks Druscilla “what do you recommend we do now?” The earth elemental swings its huge fists at Mads, hitting him once but Mads dodges the second and ripostes with his glaive, cutting deep into the elemental’s form.   Naergon walks up to the ditch and starts to climb down, slips and falls plummeting twenty feet and landing in a heap. Standing up and dusting himself off, trying to look like nothing happened, he pulls out a scroll and cats passwall to make a tunnel sloping up through the wall. Mads continues to attack the earth elemental, hacking and slicing, shouting a command to Jamna to manoeuvre [manoeuvring attack]. Jamna moves around the pagoda [reaction] gaining line of sight and shoots [sneak attack due to true strike], the arrow slamming home before she moves back out of sight. Tomaz lies down at the top of the ditch and shouts at the tunnel entrance “Mr. Monk I’m sure if my over eager colleagues put down their weapons, we can talk”. “ Why are you helping the enemy?” asks Naergon, looking up at Tomaz. “I don’t think he’s the enemy, I think he’s a peaceful monk, that may have had some answers for us” says Tomaz, “ Really?” scoffs Naergon. The monk flies at Jamna through the air pulling a huge maul from somewhere under his robe and bashes her but she dodges the attack. Talis and Druscilla move up to the edge of the ditch. The earth elemental slams Mads multiple times, hammering him into the ground.   Naergon, walks up the tunnel and emerges into the open space and casts dispel magic on the elemental [forced success through use of portent] which flickers out of existence. Mads moves forward saying “ and finally you do something useful !” and casts eldritch blast at the monk, pushing him away from Jamna and up against the hedge. Jamna casts mirror image on herself. Tomaz attempts to climb down the ditch, falls and slams into the ground. Standing up he calls out “ Please, stop attacking this monk. We need to talk to him”. The monk seamlessly slides into the earth and disappears from view. Talis climbs down the ditch, stepping onto Tomaz’s shoulders and stepping off and into the tunnel, emerging into the open space. Druscilla deploys her wings of flying and soars over the bank to hover over the top of the pagoda.   Naergon moves behind Mads, looking around [dodge]. Mads moves around the pagoda and readies an eldritch blast. Jamna moves towards the exit, keeping her eyes peeled [dodge]. Tomaz walks up the tunnel behind Talis and calls out “honestly, we do come in peace”. Talis laughs and says “your honesty knows no limits!” The monk emerges from the ground and Mads reacts with his eldritch blast but misses. The monk starts to cast a spell [phantasmal killer] but Naergon counterspells it [forcing success with a portent]. Talis races towards the monk, threatening him with her spear [dodge]. Druscilla shoots the monk with her crossbow, the bolt slamming home.   Naergon moves next to Tomaz and casts fire bolt, burning the monk badly before moving back behind the pagoda. Mads moves forward and casts eldritch blast, slamming him back against the hedge again. Jamna casts colour spray at the monk but with no effect. Tomaz moves towards the pagoda and starts to examine the carvings. The monk casts wall of stone, boxing Jamna in against the hedge and isolating Talis from the rest of the party. Talis then watches him glide into the earth and disappear from view, turns and casts dispel magic at the wall which flickers out of existence. Druscilla readies an action with her crossbow for if the monk reappears.   Naergon moves and readies a firebolt, Mads readies an eldritch blast and Jamna readies her bow. Tomaz finishes scrutinising the pagoda carvings deciding that the fish don’t really represent anything much, they’re almost comedic, stylised caricatures of fish, though certainly carved with great craftsmanship. He then crosses the bridge into the pagoda and enters the small meditation rock-garden where he takes a seat and contemplates. The monk reappears and Jamna shoots but misses, Druscilla shoots and hits, Naergon’s fire bolt also slams home but Mads misses with his eldritch blast. The monk then casts invisibility and disappears. Talis holds her ground [dodge] and Druscilla readies another crossbow bolt.   Naergon moves and readies a firebolt, Mads readies an eldritch blast and Jamna readies her bow. Tomaz examines the stones and the rock garden but finds nothing of any significance. The monk advances on Naergon, unaware that Naergon’s third eye reveals him when he’s ten feet away. Naergon reacts and firebolts him “he’s here right in front of me ” he cries.  Still invisible [concentration save 23] the monk steps up to Naergon and swings his maul but misses and becomes visible. Mads reacts and casts eldritch blast, slamming the monk to one side. The monk disintegrates into a cloud of crystalline powder, his silk robe fluttering gently to the ground, the maul clattering alongside it.   Tomaz calls out “ we should all sit in the pagoda to see if anything happens”. “Actually ” says Mads “I do think we need to have a little discussion”. “Yes indeed ” Druscilla agrees. “ I think that it’s a good idea that once combat has kicked off, that we all engage in combat as a team. Regardless of our personal politics or opinions. To do otherwise makes us very ineffective” says Mads “ and it uses up far more of our precious resources when one of us opts out. Which just makes us weaker for whatever comes next. If we wanted to speak with the monk, we had that opportunity but some of us refused to make that attempt. You Naergon and you Tomaz elected not to do so, unilaterally preventing that course of action.”   Talis chimes in “I agree entirely Mads” and pulls out a little note book and starts scribbling, muttering to herself “ Tomaz . . . ineffectual . . .cowardly . . .” then looking up at Mads “ anything you’d like to add? Reluctant to engage the enemy, how about that?” Yes, yes that’s fine. I think you have the gist” says Mads.   “Hang on a minute ” sputters Tomaz “ you failed to follow me on the first attempt when we could have just walked straight through. Then we returned – we could have all tried to sit in the pagoda that time. And then taken things from there.” “Yes, maybe” argues Mads “ but do you think that after Naergon, rightly or wrongly (and we need to discuss that too Naergon), that after Naergon flung a firebolt at the monk that there was still the option of sitting down peacefully?” “If . . .if . . .if . . .if people had stopped attacking him then yes, maybe” stutters Tomaz.   Naergon interrupts “ I don’t think it was a he though, it collapsed into crystalline powder. That’s not normal! So, who do you think this monk that you so wanted to talk to was?” “Whatever he was, he came across as wanting to sit and talk. Regardless, my point is that instead of just attacking and removing options on our second visit, we could have at least tried to all sit down and talk ” Tomaz angrily retorts.   “ Right, OK. Maybe in future you say that before Naergon s tarts casting spells ?” suggests Mads. “ Once combat is initiated” declares Druscilla “then its time to fight, whether you agree or not. We are one team we have to act together.” “I’m fine with that philosophy ” says Naergon. Talis turns “ yes Tomaz, you either fight with us or against us.”   Tomaz and Druscilla cast healing spells on Mads before heading off down the path. Naergon as he heads off says “ By the way Tomaz, that plan of yours didn’t work out very well did it?”. “That’s because people reacted with violence before we had a chance to talk” spits Tomaz. “ Bah, he had lots of time to speak up if he’d wanted to” returns Naergon “and he chose not to”. “But that’s because people kept attacking him!” shouts Tomaz “ we never agreed to attack, you just went ahead and did it anyway”. “Actually” says Mads, stepping in between “ you, Tomaz, were the first to walk away, I, Druscilla, Jamna, even Talis were sat in the pagoda. You chose not to join us just as much as Naergon did”.   “That was the first pass” explains Tomaz, trying to calm down “the plan on the first pass was to try and walk past. If that failed then we could try and talk. Violence should have been the last resort after that. but he” pointing an accusatory finger at Naergon “robbed us of that choice by attacking”   After a few minutes walking they find themselves once more at the sundial, shadows reaching out to all points of the compass. The tower appears almost directly behind them about five hundred feet away. “ It’s getting closer” comments Naergon before turning and asking “ So, Tomaz what’s the plan this time?”   Tomaz turns and checks the direction of the shadows cast by the party and says “ look, see our shadows now point that way, that was the path we took last time. So, I say we again go in the opposite direction and take that path ” pointing to the top left of the garden. “ Fair enough ” says Mads “ shall we go? Unless anyone objects?” No one speaks up so Mads turns and marches off down the path in the direction indicated by Tomaz.   After a few minutes they emerge into a large square area, the centre of which is covered by a large carpet of ‘Persian rug’ design. Six suits of ornate plate armour stand at the edges of the garden as if on guard. Battered and bashed pieces of armour and weapons are scattered across the carpeted area in front of them. Moss and lichen cover the armour, though it remains free of rust. Another pathway opens up at the far side of this area.   Jamna takes a look at the carpeted area deciding that it doesn’t look like a trap, she confirms there is no pit under it. It’s covered in lots of broken armour and weapons but no evidence of any people, no bones or blood. Mads turns to Naergon “ can you see if there’s any magic at play here?” “No, my friend ” replies the wizard “ we must reserve our resources for when they are most needed”. “yes, agreed but you can do it as a ritual can you not ?” asks Mads again, rather puzzled. “ Well, yes, yes I Can but I’d rather not ” grumbles Naergon. “ What, why not. It costs us nothing but a few minutes, why would you not ?” shouts Mads in frustration. “ Oh OK, OK, if you must ” mumble Naergon as he starts to prepare his ritual.   After ten minutes, Naergon casts his spell to detect magic. He shrieks and stops concentrating on it as fast as possible almost blinded by the glare. “Everything is magical ” he says when he recovers his wits “ the hedges, the path, the armour, the rug, the very air around us. It’s just a blinding shimmer of magical force, there’s no way to distinguish one thing from another. Never have I witnessed such a blinding cacophony!”   “ Tomaz” asks Mads “ before we move on and maybe attack something can I just check is there anyone you’d like to talk to first?” “ Well no not exactly” replies Tomaz, refusing to rise to the bait “I would recommend that we examine each of the suits before hitting them with sticks however” “Yes well why you do that, I’m going to fly up and see what I Can see” says Druscilla and so doing she flies up. Once she gets to about twenty-five feet up there’s a shimmering effect and the sensation of slipping through a barrier. Druscilla can no longer see the rest of the party, nor can she see the rectangular garden with the armour. All that she can see is an infinite maze of hedges spreading out in all directions to the horizon, there is nothing else, no tower, no sundials, no cyclops hut, no pagoda, no village, no mountains, nothing just an infinite maze of hedgerows. As far as the rest are concerned Druscilla flew up and then disappeared in into a shimmering incandescent haze about twenty feet or so above them.   Druscilla flies forward a short distance and drops down but rather surprisingly she does not emerge in the garden with the armour but instead she emerges into a sundial garden, it’s impossible for her to tell if it’s the same one she just left. It looks the same, the same shadow configuration but this time the tower appears directly behind her about a hundred and fifty feet away. Her own shadow stretches away to her right – which was not the same as last time and not the way Tomaz led the party.   “Well” says Tomaz “ Unless anyone else can fly I suggest we continue forwards and head out of that exit. If the armour animates or something, then I guess we fight. Agreed?” “I can fly ” says Mads “ so what’s the unless?” “huh well unless anyone can fly” Tomaz begins but Mads interrupts “ yes I can, so what’s the option?” “Ah, well if you can fly you could follow Druscilla” suggests Tomaz. “ How do I follow her?” asks Mads “I don’t know where she is or where she’s gone”   “Yes, well it was just an option ” says Tomaz “ so I suggest we head for the exit and if the armour animates, we defend ourselves” “They will animate, there’s no if about it!” mutters Naergon. “ That’s fine, lead on” says Mads. Tomaz steps forward onto the carpet and as he does so the helmets on the two suits of armour to either side rotate to follow him and they begin to step forward, drawing swords.   Next time: I’m a Player Character, get me out of here!   No Levels were gained this session:   Naergon 14 th level Mads 13 th level Jamna 13 th level Tomaz 13 th level Druscilla 13 th level Talis 10 th level     XP earnt is now irrelevant as the rest of TOD is based on milestone XP   In-Game the session ended at 10:30 on 20 th Mirtul 1485 DR   (The last Long Rest was completed at 06:00 by DO, JG, TS, NH, MR and Talis. Very good. Amusing to say the least. Particularly enjoyed Tomaz attempting to engage the monk in conversation!
