100% new! Quick Learner

Hey, I am 100% new.  I want to try this, but I don't know how to start.  Should I make a standard character?  If yes, is there a website that I can use to help me in the process.  If no, what should my first step be?  Should I just find a game and join without knowing the first thing about DnD?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
