The curious part here is that they work in some games but not others, indicating that the problem probably lies somewhere in the game, which might be exceedingly large, leading to a timeout, or you might already have characters in your journal tab with those names. In the latter case, dragging from the Compendium would only drag a copy of whatever you have in your game instead of fresh from the Compendium. (This is the desired behavior, since you may have made custom changes or provided a different icon, for instance.
