5e compared to Starfinder

Me and a group of friends want to start playing a game sci-fi with a sci-fi setting. We have only played 5e but there is no real sci-fi setting for it(yet). I was looking in to Starfinder and it seems really cool, not too complicated but at the same time more customizable than 5e. Our DM/GM has previously played DnD 3.5e and explaines that the combat in 3.5e used to be very tedious and could take entire sessions sometimes, which he dislikes. He says Starfinder/Pathfinder is based on 3.5e and that it still has the same issues. He would rather run a game of Star Wars EOTE. I was wondering if you guys have any insight to this conundrum. We (the players) would rather play Starfinder but our GM is hesitant because of the combat. Is it as bad as he says?
That is based on 3.5e though, which is what our GM wants to avoid xD

Hiya folks, From the  Roll20 Community Code of Conduct : The Roll20 Forums exist to discuss topics directly related to the use of the Roll20 program. Anything that more fittingly could be discussed on another website SHOULD be discussed there. As long as  you keep the conversation in the context of running these games on Roll20 , all is well.  To discuss  anything else , here is a better place to discuss this topic: /r/rpg
Oh, I am so sorry! We are only running games on roll20 since we have participants from many different countries! Is it still okay, or should i remove the post?

No need to apologize; it's a common mistake. :) So long as the discussion remains along the lines of "what's easiest to play on Roll20?" as opposed to general discussion of the merits of a given system, you're fine.

As both DnD5E and Star Wars was mentioned as preferable, you might like the fact that SW5E , a comprehensive Star Wars homebrew for DnD5E have got a sheet on Roll20.
