A foul omen looms in the sky over the
scoundrel city of Riddleport, an ominous shadow that defies the
light. Is it a curse laid millennia ago by forgotten mages? Does it
forewarn against the return of some terrible foe? Or does it portend
a terrible new era, a second Age of Darkness?
We are currently looking for another
member to join our long-term Pathfinder group as we begin the Second
Darkness Adventure Path using the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop. We seek
experienced, mature players that are able to function in a group
environment. We plan on completing Second Darkness in its entirety,
so by joining you would be making a commitment to finish the
campaign. To give you an idea of what that means, we have found that
it usually takes 8 months to a year of weekly gaming to finish an
Adventure Path of this length. If you are unwilling, unable, or
hesitant to make such a commitment, then we ask that you do not apply
to join. If all goes well, we would ideally like to welcome this new
member to become a permanent fixture in our group for future
campaigns. Most of us have been playing together for years, so being
able to contribute to a long-term positive group dynamic is
essential.
About Us: We are a serious group of
experienced gamers that have just started the Second Darkness
Adventure Path. Right now we consist of three players and a GM, and
are seeking a permanent fourth player.
Our core group members have been
gaming together through various campaigns for years, and plan on
continuing to other Pathfinder Adventure Paths after this one.
Our games consist of a good
balance between roleplaying and combat, as we think that both are
essential to gameplay. We value style, flavor, and depth just as
much as we do system mechanics. We are a group of high-quality
players with a very experienced GM, and we hold our games to a
greater standard than most. We have found that this results in a
much more refined and enjoyable experience for those involved.
Therefore, we have very high expectations for players that wish to
join us.
About You: Must be available to play Friday
nights starting at 7pm CST / 8pm EST. Games usually run for at least
6 hours, ending around 1am CST / 2am EST. Applicants should be
punctual and reliable. Players are expected to be attentive and
participate during this entire time. Please note that we do NOT use
any kind of voice chat, so applicants should be able to communicate
and play via Roll20 text chat (typing for long periods of time,
etc).
Must have a regular schedule with
minimal chance for time conflicts. Absences should be rare, and only
under emergency circumstances.
Must be an experienced, stable,
adult player that is familiar with the Pathfinder system. Children
and teenagers should not apply. We expect you to understand the
nuances of the player-GM relationship, and to get along with the
other players of the group without conflict. Players that use
racist, bigoted, sexist, or homophobic language should not apply; we
don't have time for that nonsense. Must be willing to commit and be
dedicated to the game and to the group. Please be sure that you do
not have other priorities that might come up. This game is not for
people only looking for a quick-fix. Applicants should not have any
reservations about dedicating every Friday night to the game for the
next year. Must be willing to participate and
roleplay in-game. Players should be able to effectively roleplay
interesting and flavorful characters. “Strong Silent Types” need
not apply. In addition, players must be well-versed in Pathfinder
rules and mechanics. You are expected to contribute to the strategic
implementation of the rules to overcome obstacles. Prospective
applicants should be competent with both of these areas (roleplaying
or mechanics). Must participate in out-of-game
preparation and bookkeeping. Players are expected to devote time
outside the game every week to prepare for our weekly sessions. You
will be responsible for managing an up-to-date character sheet that
will be hosted on a shared Google Docs folder. Character management,
leveling up, and inventory management will be completed OUTSIDE of
normal game time. Players must take an active role in loot
assignment discussions and purchase decisions. Please be sure that
you are willing to spend time outside the game to prepare.
Must not have any prior knowledge
about the Second Darkness Adventure Path. Our group values story and
plot development, so please do not apply if you have already played
any of this scenario. Possessing or obtaining any meta-knowledge of
the campaign is grounds for dismissal.
Must be flexible, able to handle a
variety of challenging situations while maintaining a good-natured
attitude. As our GM has stated previously, you should be willing to
die heroically without complaint. You must maintain your enthusiasm
throughout all ups or downs. If you are prone to ragequits or get
pissy when dice rolls go badly, then you should look elsewhere.
How to Apply: Contact us via Roll20 to express
your interest in joining. You will need to include some information
about yourself and your experience level. Please address some of the
specific requirements listed above, and mention why you think you
would be a good choice. Think of this as a brief gaming CV and cover
letter.
Read and comprehend the Second
Darkness Player's Guide in its entirety. We will send this to you
after you have expressed your interest and introduced yourself. Submit a completed character
sheet. (see below) Submit a fleshed-out backstory and
character description. This should give us an idea of your
character's personality, background, and current goals. Players that
use the information from the Player's Guide in an effective and
flavorful manner will be given preference. Submit a character token that can
be used on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop.
Character Requirements: 15 point buy Core classes only (no APG classes) Core races, plus any races listed
in Second Darkness Player's Guide Good alignments only Average starting gold as given in
the Core Rulebook Two traits, one of which must be a
Second Darkness campaign trait chosen from the Player's Guide Rogues, bards, and wizards are
given priority consideration
We will prioritize applicants that meet
all of our required criteria and present compelling, coherent
character dossiers. Your application materials should accurately and
descriptively portray the character that you wish to inhabit for the
next 8-12 months. We will not select any character that shows signs
of obvious over-optimization or min-maxing, as this is not copacetic
with our gameplay philosophy. For party balance purposes, we are
looking for a rogue, bard, or wizard. This is not mandatory, but it
is highly recommended.
We will continue accepting new
applications until we have found a player that is satisfactory. Once
chosen, this player will join our group for a few games in a
probationary capacity. If all goes well, we will welcome them into
our group as a full-fledged member.
Good luck! Please feel free to contact
us if you feel that you are qualified. We look forward to hearing
from you!
