New to paper DnD type of games. Few important questions

Hello, not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this but I'd like to ask few questions. I don't want to discourage myself from getting into paper DnD style games, but I honestly don't know where to start. My questions are: What do I need to get started as normal players? How hard would it be to learn to be DM and what would I need to be effective/interesting one? How costly would this "hobby" get to get some maps/assets, preferably some deep lore or predetermined quests? Sorry If I'm posting this in wrong category but I can't find proper one. Thanks for the answers.

This kind of question is discouraged on these forums, which are specifically for roll20 support. To learn how to play D&D style games, you're better off checking out places like https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/ https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/ https://forum.rpg.net/index.php where people will be happy to help out new players.

As far as these questions might apply to Roll20: 1. The main thing would be to go through the tutorial if you haven't already done so. This gives you an idea how the interface works and will make it easier to get going in a game. If you check out the lfg forum or tool, there frequently are games listed that welcome new players. 2. Definitely check out the links GiGs provided. If you are interested in a specific rule set, there may be forums dedicated to that rule set as well that you can find with a quick search. 3. Cost is a difficult subject. Some games have on line resources that are free, but that doesn't mean they are integrated into Roll20. If you ever play in person, you will want physical books, but if you only play on Roll20, you may just want pdf copies, or books purchased through Roll20 that have been integrated into their interface. Some games include pretty much all you need to play in a book or 2, while others require more books. This hobby can be fairly inexpensive or take up quite a large chunk of cash. Getting started costs you nothing but willingness to learn and someone willing to bring you into a game.
Hi xoF, As GiGs has stated, the Roll20 forums are intended primarily for support questions. As such I will need to close this thread down, however, just wanted to go ahead and link to an older article we have on the wiki that works as an intro to tRPGs as a whole https://wiki.roll20.net/Introduction_To_Tabletop_RPGs Welcome to the hobby, happy rolling!
