total newb question about map images

So probably a dumb question, but i am trying to upload some map images to use in my game, but when i try to resize the map to match the grid, my map becomes super blurry.  not sure if it is a problem with my original image being sized wrong, or if it is a setting i missed in roll20.  i know that is some kinda vague but if anyone can help i can give more specifics.

It is probably too small of an image, and by the time you stretch it out to the size you want on the vtt, it is blurry.  Before uploading, check the dimensions of the image (properties).  The standard map grid is 1750x1750 pixels (25x25).  The more you have to stretch it to get it that size, the worse it will look.
cool.  i'll try resizing the images before i upload them tommorow night.  i'll let you know how well it works

Remember to watch out for the MB limitation also. At your account level, try to keep it under 5 mb in size also. It is usually recommended to keep it smaller than that so there is some byte headroom for the uploading process.

This page can tell you just about anything you might need to know about graphic handling and best practices on Roll20 (Thanks again, Kenton!). Please ask if you have any questions.
so i tried resizing the images to make them larger, but that didnt seem to help much.  still not sure what i am doing wrong  i have a couple weeks before our first session so i have time to figure this out.  to start i am trying to figure it out on just one map.  i resized the image to match the 1750X1750 size of the VTT, but when i place it in roll20 it still is only a small block that i have to stretch out to the right size, making it blurry.  I also tried resizing it to 1750 width and left the option to maintain aspect ratio on in my photo editor.  that still produced a map that only took up one square and then got blurry as i stretched it out.  i'll keep trying and figure out where i've gone wrong

Try disabling the grid or drag and dropping on the map layer.

Also don't contimue uploading the image if you have already. This will only cause multiple copies and eat up your storage quota.
yeah i cleared all the extra uploads.  im going to try using it without the grid.  reading through some of the other fourm posts helped too.  i hadn't thought of it before but the map images i am using are hand-drawn and likely wont match up to the grid no matter how hard i try.  also i found that dragging the image straight from my desktop to the VTT makes it at least a little clearer than uploading it to my library first, but that might just be my imagination
ok so removing the grid helped a lot.  when i dropped the image in from my desktop to the VTT it loaded fine.  it's a little grainy, but not to the point of being unusable.  thank you all for the help.  i'll keep playing around to see if i can clean up the image a little, but i think i am at a point that i am happy now

Well, jpeg is almost certainly the best format for this purpose, so that's all good. If you're happy with the results you're getting now, that's the important thing.
