Great advice, Staggerman, thanks! I started being familiar with Fantasy with Fighting Fantasy books. The writing was superb and so was the translation. I started role-playing with Warhammer (the first edition). This is what hooked me up. My cousin had borrowed the rulebook from a friend and introduced us to the game, my brother and I. I think Warhammer always remained my first love. I never experienced something which I liked quite as much. Then I played Hero Quest for a while which I really liked too. The downside was little to no role-playing involved but we liked the strategic battles and the dungeon-crawling the most so that worked for us. In the same vein, Dragon Strike was really fun for us as we could mix and match the miniatures from both boxes. I also played the first two editions of Dungeons and Dragons . I never could get into it. I don't know why. Something doesn't appeal to me about it. Maybe it's the huge quantity of books and rules which I found overbearing. I also didn't like how powerful you could get. This is something I liked about Warhammer, you never really got the point where you were superhuman. I played call of Chtulu as the GM. It was fun. I enjoyed the absence of magic a lot. I don't like magic as a mechanic, I find it's always detrimental to the lore of a well built universe. Resurrection also bothers me as death loses all of its significance then. I think it's one of the settings I liked the most with Warhammer. I like the vulnerability of things. I have read a few of the GURPS books but alas I find that the ''real thing'' end up being more attractive than adapting things with GURPS, as elegant as the system is. I like the simple rules which make role-playing a breeze and a no-brainer. I don't know if there's much of a playerbase for non-fantasy, non D&D games so I might have to adapt to the player demographic and go with D&D even though I don't like the setting. I'd be interested in playing the module Lost Mines of Phandelver as I like low level adventures which are thorough and well-made. I hope this clarifies and gives you guys a better idea as to what I'm looking for. Thank you for reading and a good day to you.
