"Absence makes the heart grow fonder" they say and
as you’re waiting for your train back home, you’re starting to realize how much
you’ve missed being home. You’re clasping your ticket firmly as the wind whips
away at your face, making you squint as you attempt to make out if The Empire Builder has finally made it
to the King Street Station where you’ve been waiting not so patiently for more
than an hour. The end of October had to be the worst time to wait
around in Seattle, known for its rainy weather this time of year and today’s no
exception. Nothing but grey skies, wind and icy rain for the whole duration of
your trip on the west coast. It wasn’t all bad news however; to celebrate the first
year of operation of The Empire Builder, tickets
price had been cut by 50% for most of the year (in 1930), meaning you managed
to save quite a bit on an otherwise fairly expensive trip back home. Although
there was slowly light at the end of the Great Depression. You were
still very conscious about saving every single penny you can manage. You’re eventually taken out of your reverie by the
sudden shriek of the train whistle; it’s finally time to leave the murky
streets of Seattle behind and head back home... *** Are new players welcome? Yes, they are. I might
need a bit of help with D20 myself and I’m not the most experienced with CoC
although I’ve read the rules. What I’m trying to say is that I might need to
look some things up at times although I usually prepare very thoroughly. About occupations: I’d like people to be
everyday players meaning that they’re not specialized with the occult. They’re
just regular people being put in an irregular situation. This doesn’t mean that
this is an absolute rule, we can discuss this but considering the scenario, I
think it’d be more effective if people are just normal folks. Any of the
occupations listed at 68 and 69 of the
investigator’s handbook are ok. Background procedure: As far as the
background is concerned, you may either determine it yourself or use the random
tables provided with the Investigators Handbook. How much is enough
regarding background information: I’d say the more the
better but write what you think comfortable writing. This is supposed to be fun
and so I don’t want this to be a chore. Make sure you write
down a reason why your character had something to do for at least a few days in
Seattle. That is up to you to decide. Characters shouldn’t
belong to any specific organizations and shouldn’t know each other. Their only
connection is that they all share the same cabin on the train. This is where
they first meet, in the train at the train station in Seattle. What sort of scenario is it? This isn’t an
improvisation match where people just make stuff up on the fly. The scenario is
a self-contained module with pre-written locations, characters and so on. This doesn’t mean that players don’t have any freedom to
do what they aim to do but there is a scenario. Voice or text? I’ve used text in the
past but I’d like to use voice this time around, passive or active. I expect
players to do the same. How many players? I’d like to have three
players to keep it simple to meet up without having to deal with flakes. I used
to like role-playing quite a bit but got fed up after dealing with unreliable
people online and consequently stopped for over three years. I’m looking for reliable
people who are not very busy and most importantly punctual. If you tend to show
whenever you feel like it, please don’t apply. I don’t like to make people wait
and I don’t like to wait after other people, this is very important to me. People who are willing
to help is also a plus. Also people who don’t lose their cool about a RPG is
also pretty important. I’d like to have both
genders in the player base. I’ve never experienced that and would like to. Is it free? Yes, of course. I
wouldn’t have it any other way. I actually considered having a fee charged
which would be reimbursed after the session to prevent people flaking but I’ll
let my judgment determine who I think will end up being reliable. Do I need a portrait for my character? Yes you do. This is
going to be used in order to create your token on D20. When is the session going to take place? I don’t know how long
the scenario will take but I’m thinking at most one or two shots. I’d like to
keep the same people for other scenarios if we end up having fun together but
I’m fine with people leaving after the scenario too. I’m in EST time-zone
and would like to play on the weekend, preferably on Saturday but I’m flexible.
How do we determine the time then? Provide your own
availability and I’ll try to arrange something based on everyone’s schedule. How should I create my Character? By using the option 4
of the Investigator’s Handbook where
you share 460 points among the eight characteristics with a minimum of INT and
SIZ of 40. You can find blank
character sheets here . You’ll need to write
the values in. How should I apply? You may apply here . *Sorry, I've fixed the link. Make sure to provide all of the information in the thread entitled: "Investigators Apply Here" on the game page. Please provide a fully
filled character sheet (provided in the link above) along with the following
information: First Impressions: Your group meets for
the first time as occupants of the same train cabin. At the time of the beginning
of the adventure, you’ve been sharing the same space for over a day. Describe
what kind of impression the other players should have about you. What is your
character demeanor with the others during that time? Business in Seattle Why did you travel to
Seattle in first place? Provide as much detail as you would if you had some
small talk with the other travellers sharing your cabin. Availability Provide your own
availability and I’ll try to arrange something based on everyone’s schedule.
