The Adventure Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest. Thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! About Me I'm an experienced DM and Player with many campaigns under my belt. I've been playing since early DnD 3.0 and have hard copies of most of the 3.5, 4e and 5e books close at hand. I am however somewhat new to Roll20 with only a few hours on the system. I've so far learned all the basics I feel are necessary to organize and run a proper campaign but I'm sure I'll be learning a few new things along the way. That's why for my first turn as a DM on this system I'm choosing to run a module as seeing how the system is used with pre-built content will help me as I develop homebrew campaigns and expansion quests. As a DM I've only ever ran my own homebrew campaigns and stories but have often times built them around commonly used realms like Forgotten Realms or Eberron. I have also been a player in many of the official 5E campaigns like curse of strahd or tomb of annihilation. Dragon Heist is a new campaign that I've only just recently started to DM with another group every other friday, and I expect this group to pass them up fairly quickly. My DM Style As a DM my philosophy is to start with an equal balance of combat, exploration and roleplay, and then allow the players to determine how involved or non-involved they get in any particular aspect of the game. If I find that I'm only ever getting short answers/questions in roleplay and find myself carrying on both sides of the conversation then I tend to tone the Roleplay Aspect of the game down and build in more combat or exploration. Same goes for the other aspects, if I find players are just going through the motions or getting needlessly frustrated then we'll just tend to skip over the non-important parts to get back to the area's of the game you do enjoy. When it comes to treasure, I tend to error on the side of over compensating my players. As a player I hate the feeling of being powerless or like you can't take any risk for fear of an easy death. That said, while I do my best to build my players up, that doesn't mean everything will be a cakewalk. I buff all the key encounters to match the players new level of capabilities and will make you rise to the challenge all the same. Shenanigans One of the most important aspects of a good D&D group in my opinion is the ability to have fun and laugh. I highly encourage this in all of my campaigns and for all my players to at times do goofy things with their characters during downtime between events in a campaign or even during them when things are going sideways anyways. This DOES NOT MEAN the players cannot be serious or are incapable of having a serious moment, far from it, but a little comedy being thrown into the mix from time to time should be generally viewed as enjoyable. Any players (or myself) going too far can be asked to tone it down but generally speaking we're all here to have fun and enjoy ourselves and I find humor helps build great D&D groups. Tipping/Payments First let me be clear, while I've listed this game as pay to play, I will NOT ban anyone from playing on the basis of lack of funds to play . Furthermore, I do NOT mandate payment for any session, and tipping, while encouraged, is entirely voluntary. That said I do ask any player that can afford to please consider offering a tip of $5-$10 after every session if you've enjoyed it. Everyone is welcome to apply regardless of their ability to pay but I do ask that you let me know so I don't take it personally when I end up with a session full of people that never tip. That said, I also want to say I'm not doing this to supplement my income in any way. This isn't about making money for me, but rather about funding additional content, supplements and art for my games. I've already dropped about $250 on my subscription and the various compendium books and content, all of which will be shared with my players. If you'd rather gift marketplace content than tip, that's perfectly fine and accepted. As a Player, I should apply if... I want to actively engage in the story and contribute positively to the roleplaying experience. I'm a team player who can put their own needs behind those of the party/group. I understand that the rules are subject to DM interpretation and at times Story Requirements. I also understand that as a player I am responsible for knowing what my character can do. We will work with new players to learn the system but at some point you are expected to be self sufficient. I am able to show up at the appointed time on a weekly basis and participate in the campaign for multiple months. I have a good sense of humor and can generally laugh at most things. The Campaign Sessions will be weekly and about 3 hours in length. +/- a few minutes to find an appropriate stopping point. Character creation will be done at the table during session zero. Ability score generation: 4d6 Drop the lowest x6. Anyone with terrible stats will be offered the ability to augment them... For a Cost... (in game, non-monetary) All Official Content Allowed. Unofficial Content or DM/Player Generated Content will be reviewed on a case by case basis. We will be using Relationship Creation cards to help the players build connections with each other. You will be expected to build a background that fits with the played relationship cards and possibly even choose a race/age that fits the relationship requirements (if necessary). Campaign will continue on into the Dungeon of the Red Mage if interest continues after completing the Dragon Heist content. Alternatively we can restart into a custom campaign, players choice. Discord will be used for voice. Discrimination and Derogatory terms are never acceptable. This is LGBTQ+ friendly session. Compendium Shared in Roll20 Players Handbook Xanathar's Guide To Everything Monster Manual Dragon Heist Disclaimer This game encourages tipping the Game Master at a rate of $5-$10 after every session if you enjoyed it (if players can afford it). Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Tips collected are anticipated to be spent on additional RPG content, market purchases and assets for this DM/account. If any funds collected remain unused at the end of my time on Roll20 they will be retained and used at my discretion and not subject to any refund considerations.
