Before Ceph’s transformation he was Darrio Morrfal, a typical young human scraping by on an RBS Ship. His parents had decent jobs but to afford survival meant working themselves to the bone, leaving Darrio free to roam the streets and find his own means of survival. Darrio wasn’t content slaving away to earn a meager existence, and by his mid twenties he’d realized that crime was a much more lucrative career path. The Akks became his second family. Sure it was just a petty gang, but they looked out for each other and encouraged each other. Everyone in the Akks had a role: There was Rikara the mastermind, Deni was the muscle while his brother Buro was an arms specialist, JK-6 was a hacking droid and Darrio was the scout and lookout. Working together they had many successful heists, beginning to make a name for themselves and amassing a small fortune between them. But with the success came arrogance. Don Calivar was something of a local celebrity who made his fortune as an RBS software developer. No one can say what possessed Rikara to think that it would be a good idea to target him, but the rest of the Akks had no doubts in her plan or in their capabilities. None of them could have predicted that everything possible was going to go wrong. It took JK-6 longer than expected to break through the security protocols, causing their communications to get jammed and forcing Darrio to break his optimal position to get a better signal, which meant he didn’t see the reinforcements arrive and take out Buro, and without Buro covering Deni and Rikara, they were sitting ducks. In the end, the Akks were obliterated. Buro and Deni were dead, JK-6 was apprehended, Rikara was M.I.A. and Darrio was in critical condition: comatose and with much of his body blown to shreds by an explosive. Thankfully, someone else had been watching the fiasco. Edovan Axos was an up and coming RBS executive who’d just gained jurisdiction over much of the surveillance operations in the city. He used this position to keep close tabs on all of his potential rivals, so Edovan watched the attempted raid on Don Calivan’s estate like a live sports broadcast. He was rooting for the thieves of course, and even though they failed he was impressed by their ambition. Curious, he followed up to see if any of them had survived. JK-6 had already been wiped and sold for scrap, Rikara proved difficult to find and he gave up on her when he learned Darrio was still wasting away in a derelict hospital. It was the perfect opportunity. It took five years for the specially ordered Chomirid Uplift Shell to be finished. When Ceph awoke, the acclimation sickness took another week to pass before he was cognizant enough to understand what had happened. He’d been on death’s door, but he’d been given a second chance: reincarnated. And he owed it all to Mr. Axos. Edovan explained to Ceph that the shell he’d been given was top of the line and specially designed to complement Ceph’s natural talents for stealth. Ceph was now to be Edovan’s left hand, gathering information and working under the radar to help Mr. Axos’ further ascension into the upper echelons of RBS. Ceph sees all of this as a gift. He had thought he was going places before, but now he has an opportunity to go farther than Darrio had ever dreamed.
