Tutorial not loading (Firebase)

June 04 (6 years ago)

Edited June 04 (6 years ago)

Detailed description of the problem

While attempting to start the tutorial using the browser the main view is stuck with a black background and "Loading..." and some random text line below (changes every attempt). The navigation and tool gui elements are visible. Error seems consistent with what severel others have reported at various times.

The jsfiddle posted by Riley D. here ( https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/2664/wont-get-past-the-loading-screen ) is also stuck at "Testing...".

Minimum number of steps to reproduce the problem

Just attempting to open the tutorial.

Description of setup

  1. Chrome Version 75.0.3770.80 (64-Bit). Also tried Firefox 67.0.1.
  2. Adblock Plus / Acrobat Reader / Avast Online Security / Google docs. Disabled everything and restarted, didn't help.
  3. Windows 10 Home 64bit

Bug Triage Results

Javascript is enabled.

Avast Antivir. Disabled it temporarily, didn't help.

Supplemental Information

I'm having the same problems.

Been away awhile, attempted to go through the Tutorial, but the editing area doesn't load. I can scroll through the steps and click on the editing tools, but there is nothing to apply it to.

Two steps - log in, choose Tutorial

I've tried on Firefox Quantum (ver. 67.0.1) and Chrome (ver. 75.0.3770.80 (official build) (64-bit) w/ all addons disabled, Java allowed and updated, on Windows 7 professional. Cache cleared. Reloaded, gave it time to load, still nothing.

Hello everyone,

I was able to replicate the issue and I've created a ticket to escalate it to the Devs.

I don't know if you need more people confirming, but I'm also having this issue. I've tried it multiple times using two different computers and two different accounts. I've also tried using chrome, firefox, and safari.

June 05 (6 years ago)
I'm also having this issue. I tried from the most recent version of Chrome on win7 as well as from Chrome on a MacBook Pro running High Sierra.

Newbie here, created a fresh account and first thing I try is the tutorial, but I get stuck on the loading screen.
I've tried both newest versions of Chrome (extensions/addons disabled) and Firefox (fresh install), clearing cache in both then restarting, to no avail.  I'm on Windows 10 and see no issues with Firewall or Windows Defender. Picture of loading screen and Firefox console log below.

same issue here, tried chrome, firefox, edge, and 3 different computers at 2 different locations. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's the site's end.

I also have this issue right now. Installed firefox to see if it would work, and it didn't.

I am also having this issue across 2 computers and two accounts (made and then deleted a second account to see if there was something wrong with this account).

Hello!
I just recently signed up, I'm a brand new dungeon master with nearly zero experience, and most of my group has little experience with D&D and zero experience with roll20 as well.
I went to the tutorial to learn how to use the platform, but it won't seem to load, it just get stuck on a funny loading message. I can try to load into my game just fine but of course I don't know how to use the platform so I don't even know how to import my maps or anything.

Tully S. said:

I am also having the same issues.  I went through the troubleshooting page and the tutorial still black-screens with the loading message.  I can get as far as using the "first tool" (the freehand tool), but there's no gridmap to draw on so it's stuck there.

I'm having the same problem, also had no success with the troubleshooting page.

While it won't solve the tutorial issue, you could check out this section of the wiki:  https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll20_Crash_Course

Although most of them are out of date, there are some good tutorial series on Youtube. They should be good enough to get the lay of the land.
The tutorial is very buggy, though, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Hello everyone!

The Devs are aware of the issue and are currently working towards a fix. I'll report back when more information is available.

:)

June 07 (6 years ago)

Hello all,

A hotfix was put out for this issue. Please let me know if you're still experiencing these issues.

June 10 (6 years ago)

Still the exact same error message after clearing cache for me.

Ok, after trying it at work this week (on another computer) and having it not working there either I decided to test a proxy in another country. That worked. Fwiw the firebase permission denied is still in the browser console but it loads anyway, so that's not the problem somehow.

I'm guessing that either region or providers are blocked for whatever reason, if anyone else has this problem try setting up a virtual machine abroad or use something like TOR.
