Equipping items resetting Attack and Damage stats for spells?

Using the 5e OGL character sheet.  Using some custom spell changes for fun, nothing API or code changing.  But whenever any player equips an item that modifies ANY stat on the sheet it resets all the spell Damage bonus fields.  So my Fireball for example we setup it uses Dex for it's attack roll bonus and then the damage is 1d6 + INT + 0.  If the player equips anything that modifies any of the stats of the sheet the spells under the Attacks and Spellcasting and on the Spell page all reset back to default.  Attack bonus becomes the default for the sheet or goes to a "-" if none selected as well as the Damage bonus.  So in this case it becomes 1d6 + "-" + 0 Even if no Spellcasting ability is selected and if one is it resets the attack and damage roll to the Spellcasting ability selected there.  Tried with all different kinds of class bases and with a custom class selected with custom spellcasting ability.  Is this a bug or is it just meant to function this way?
Also this does not happen if not using a Spell with an Attack output.
