I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I have to wait a minimum time......I've just bought the XGE bundle, but in a game where I share my compendium, I'm not seeing the new character race (eg Goblin) inside the charactermancer options. Am I missing something?

Yes, Xanathar's Guide to Everything does not contain any race options. For the extended race option you would need Volo's Guide to Monster and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes.
