Hey there forum recruiters, Sections: 1. The dilemma 2. Schedule 3. If interested... The Dilemma: I understand one of the first thoughts that you fellow DM's out there might conjure from the topic title is "why did the DM leave?" Often times that can be a red flag, which our group understands because two of us are actually experienced DM's ourselves. Long story short, one of the players in our other games only had a single game session each week and wanted more, but both the other DM and myself knew that we couldn't commit to hosting more than one story a week. So that player understandably volunteered and attempted to step into DM'ing to satisfy his need for more gaming. Many, many problems ensued with this amateur DM: mainly revolving around discouraging player improv; only developing combat, punishment, and survival scenarios; last minute cancellations for consecutive weeks due to being "tired and unprepared;" and trying to fish out cheap disadvantageous scenarios such as telling us players we slept with our armor on one random night since we didn't say we stripped down (we have never had to say it, like most campaigns) or after we create comic relief he decides the NPC is super annoyed with us and then meta-game tells us that this random NPC hunter we annoyed is so powerful he could kill us all so we better do as he says (forcing compliance from players). Unfortunately we had to cut ties with him, as well as with his PC in our original campaign for similar problems. But we became SOOOO attached to our new PC squad since the variety and character contrast within the party was fluent and unique. We are all hoping to see how this particular band of characters' story plays out since, with the current circumstances, we are now unsatisfied and hungry for a beautiful adventure. If you are a DM who is into character development, PC creativity, story driven campaigns, tasteful homebrew, and shares a like-minded perspective on what was wrong with how the previous DM conducted the game, we are eager to hear from you. We're all an understanding bunch who want to play the characters we've developed, but in particular my character's race is the homebrewed PC race of half-giant, specifically Frost giant. Due to that I can understand if you would like to have a say in what you feel is acceptable balancing, which I have no problem with whatsoever as long as I get to keep my personality. Side note: We all took one dump stat of "6" and another of "9" in order to make certain elements of the PC's personality flaws really shine in some fun ways. Scheduling: The next biggest thing, but entirely essential, is can our timing mesh up? We are looking to play every other Monday evening, specifically somewhere in the time slot between 7pm- Midnight Central timezone, preferably ending around 11pm, but midnight is our best flexibility since we all have morning full-time jobs. If interested: We would like just a brief introduction to get to know you a little. Could you please post years of experience, how you balance combat and RP, your pet peeves, what you expect out of players and DM's (summarized), and one of your favorite TTRPG moments? Thank you for reading and considering our group to DM. We hope to hear from you!
