My friend and I are looking for a Burning Wheel group -- a GM and 1-2 more players. We both have the books and some actual play experience. We have many of our own ideas but would also be open to yours, since we know this is game that only works if everyone is excited about the situation and each other's character. In particular, we'd like to try something on a grand scale. Perhaps a campaign that spans multiple generations of characters, where newer characters feel the historical ramifications of earlier character's actions. Where exactly the game starts is pretty open ended: Kingmaker-type plot, revolution, civil war, Viking-style migration crisis (from either perspective), King dies without an heir, blah blah blah Two quick disclaimers. First, it's very important to mostly roleplay conflict-oriented, dramatic scenes (as Burning Wheel is intended), but it's also very important to us to bring all PCs and setting to life, so expect us to every once in a while want to roleplay some in-character small talk, slice of life moments, character flashbacks, etc. Of course, always with the awareness of dramatic pacing. Second, while we're all for melodrama and tragedy, we also like infuse our characters with a little irony and camp. This is never meant to subtract from the melodrama, though. A great character should make you laugh and cry. Also, personally I feel more taken out of a setting by forgettable, all-too-sincere "x" and "z"-heavy fantasy names than by puns or word play. (Conjoined nouns are only ever acceptable as word play. I never want to walk into another "Bloodvale" or "Oakshire"...) Hopefully, I don't sound too annoying yet. If you're interested in playing, send me a PM and maybe a little bit about yourself, then let's talk over voice chat, share some ideas, and see how well we all get along.
