24?! Wow... that's super old! I'm surprised your eye-sight is holding up! Joke. I'm 34, and didn't start playing D&D until I was maybe 31-32. And I love DMing! I too, just like Pat S, play using 'Text only'. By this I mean that we meet up every week online and chat in roll20 with text like it was a like website chatroom. We still use lots of maps, move tokens about and lots of automated buttons. This automation means you can focus on the game and not worry about what modifiers, or dice you need to roll... - For the same group, we also have two private 'Discord' channels. One is just for general chat throughout the week, asking questions, talking about whats coming up, maybe about good movies or books etc. Then the other channel is "In character only" where I'll set a little scene each week, which might be.... "Resting at the campsite" and give the players a chance to slowly roleplay conversations, talk about their characters backstory or plans for the next mission... It may be days between each response or message, but it's just meant to be a relaxed, calm atmosphere. This allows everyone to keep playing in little bits over the week, and it also helps me, as the DM to help give more exposition to our adventure! I've recently just played just one 'session' of the 'Lost Mine of Phandelver' story, which is based on the 5e 'Starter Set'. I have a group of 4 players and I'm potentially considering a 5th (Again, so if one or two people can't make it, they don't have to worry about inadvertently cancelling the game). Additionally, I can't touch type. - I think I'm *quite* fast, but you don't need be super quick at typing to play in a text only 'live' game. My game is on Tuesdays, 8pm GMT - If Oliver (or anyone for that matter) fancies giving it a shot, drop me a message!
