D & D 5e player Must Have products

Which books should I buy through Roll 20 for someone who only plans and being a player in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition games? I own most of the physical book and am wondering what would be the benefit of buying the same books online (Players handbook, xanathar's guide, etc). Thanks for any input!

PHB and Xanathar's will help alot with character creation, they both have full charactermancer support so as long as the game you are in uses the roll20 5e sheet you'll be able to do everything you need like leveling or adding spells from the compendium. You could add Volo's if you want the extra races, but it's less necessary because you'll make character way less often then you'll look up spells. Those are the only two you might need for anything and if you're DM has shared them with your game you don't need them at all. I would have a conversation with your DM before purchasing anything.

I would say PHB and MM, depending on your play style. PHB gets you the major character classes, MM gets you the major monsters. After that Xanathars for more player options, and either Volo's for more mainstream monsters, or Mordenkainen's for more monsters if you tend towards higher-tier games.

Do the PHB, etc. do anything for you if you only plan to be a player in someone else's game?
Yeah, if you're only playing in someone else's game and that someone has a Pro account, you don't need anything, really. The other person should have the PH and the MM at minimum. Everything else is gravy. I think Mordenkainen is really a game-changer for DMs, due to the number and variety of monsters you have at your disposal, but your DM's mileage may vary.

I have no plans to DM in the future if that makes a difference. Also I would like to have pre-made characters to be able to mport them into a game quickly

Ah, I had missed that you had specified "player only" in your first post. PHB gets you the basic races and classes that probably account for the vast majority of D&D games. Xanathar's gets you more classes and spells. Volos and Mordenkainen get you more races. V gives more race types , M gives more sub -races, mostly Tiefling variants. I would suggest PHB and Xanathar's over the other two. Races have fewer rules and are easier to over-write or past in new data. You would also get the bulk of spells.
