New User: Macros suddenly stopped working

Hello and thanks for reading, I admit to being a new user, online role play was never a great draw for me as I could readily get a IRL group together.  I have however decided to stop being such a neo-Luddite and embrace the machine.  After looking around I found that Roll20 was a robust VTT that could easily support my game.  Further, another user had even developed Macros, API, and Character Sheets for the vintage game I wanted to run.   After being a friendly pest, I received all of the requested information and a copy of his existing game so I could examine it, tinker and learn how Roll20 worked.  After exploring his game for a bit, I set up my own game, and imported his Macros and API.  In trial it all worked wonderfully, for about an hour.  Then unexpectedly, without me changing a character or text line, nothing works anymore!  None of the imported Macros work.  For instance there is an Initiative Macro that takes a derived stat from a targeted Token and adds a roll of 1d10 plus a user assigned fluid modifier together.  It works on the Copy Game, and it was working on my new game, but now it just sits there, as useless as eyes on a pickle. How can I fix this?  Is there a reset game option? or Do I have to re-code all the macros and start over? Thanks again! J.P.

Since you mention API, the first thing to check is if your API sandbox has crashed. It could be a script error. Go to your scripts page, and see if there's an error. If so, restart the sandbox. If this is the case, be careful about script inputs, see if you can figure out which one causes the crash. The second thing to check (but the one that sounds the more likely culprit), is to check if your chat log has become corrupted. Exit the campaign if its open, go to your campaign launch page, and click Settings, and Clear Chat Archive. Then relaunch the campaign and see if its working. If neither of those work, it'll be harder to track down the issue. You will probably have the best luck asking the person who gave you the sheet if they know whats going on.

There are 2 things you might check.  1. While logged into the game, open the game start page (where the big pink Launch Game button is) in another tab or window.  Click on the settings button, and select API scripts from the dropdown.  Click the Restart API Sandbox button.  See if any errors come up.  Sometimes, for me, there has been something that stopped the API (maybe some sort of server side maintenance?) and restarting it fixes that.  If you get errors, post them here and one of the people here that actually know something about the API might get you started in the right direction. 2. If the API is fine, it is possible you could have something going wrong with the chat, which can be caused by a sufficiently twisted macro.  This can happen while experimenting with things.  Once again, you go to the game start page, click on the settings button, but now you select Clear Chat Archive.  That will clear everything from chat in case there is something screwy in chat history that is interfering with chat functionality. Hopefully one of those gets you going.  (And GiGs beat me to it!)

Hehe, great minds think alike (*mumbles* and fools seldom differ)
Thanks to both of you.  I will now endeavor to restart the API sandbox and purge the chat.  Hopefully it works, as I did not alter the macros and simply copy pasted them from his wordpad document.
Thank you! These suggestions have fixed my issues perfectly.
