playbypost?

Hi all. I've been looking for a solution for playbypost play. Currently I use RPGtableonline which made the VTT for Wizards originally of course the players can't move their tokens unless they choose to make an account and I keep the table open for them to log on whenever they can and make their move. Otherwise I've been doing screenshots - crop in paint and they just explain roughly their moves.  Some people there use ditzie but so far I am at a loss figuring how to use that thing at all, I can upload my maps and icons to the folders I need but how to get them to worksurface to actually use them is a mystery. Here's my question: can Roll20 work like RPGTableonline does in that players can just log into the campaign at any time and move their token where they have explained in their post? Or does it only work as a LIVE game? thanks! Rob

You can use Roll20 to play asynchronously. Yes, they can move their token anytime. :)  Warning: there is no record of where they used to be so there would either need to be a lot of trust involved between player and GM or some way for you to keep track of where they used to be. For the latter, I suggest using the art tool (text) to put in some kind of co-ordinate system so that when they report the new location you can keep a record of it.  - Gauss
Thanks!

Which makes it a non problem.
Simple solution. Add a row of letters and numbers at the top and players should include their start/end locations in their play-by-post messages. This helps keep a record of the moves and if you want to really get down to path of movement, you can have them draw their path using the polygon/line tool in their chosen color.

Patrick, many groups include players that the GM does not know. Hard to trust players you do not know. That comes with time. Until that time has passed a simple solution is to include a co-ordinate system as I and JonathanTheBlack have indicated.  A record of previous locations is a regularly requested feature and this might be one reason as to why. In any case, we do not need to debate the nature of trust in this thread.  - Gauss
thanks all. Aye we have a solid core group in the pbp game. Been getting by with screenshots of the moves I do for them using RPGTableOnline. Now been trying ditzie but it is turning out to be very problematic. Have to constantly move icons to an exact folder to make them work and even then it glitches. It more like "alpha" than "beta". This is much better and even has fog of war so I won't have to split map into lots of pieces now that I know it works asynchronously. One of my players suggested making a roll20 account titled robbyplayers and they all just use that individually but better to have them make free account themselves then they can have their own library and if they get to like it can use it in other games live or pbp. thanks again!
