Question about how tokens works in relation to characters

This might have a very simple answer but i can't seem to find it anywhere.  I'm planning on running my first campaign as a standard 5e campaign, and i'm almost done with all the essentials, except for 2 things 1. When i create an NPC, (or any character for that matter) and drag it from the "characters" bar to the map, the token is resized to the token image's original size, making it either way too big or to small. the answer to this might be linked to my 2nd question so here is that: 2. When i drag a character from the "characters" bar, the token is not assigned to the character sheet made for the character. i have to link the token to the sheet manually, (doing this doesn't resize the token to the correct size either).  If anyone has any solution(s) for this it would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance :) Edit: you should know i want to play without a grid locking the characters to squares and so on. idk if this is valuable information but there you go Edit 2: I SOLVED IT. with help :) all i needed to do was linking the token to the char as the last step. Thank you Keithcurtis for the answer :)

1. Regardless of whether you use a grid or not, set your tokens up on a page that has a grid, and confirm that the grid is not scaled to anything other than 1 cell width = 70 px. It makes getting relative sizes correct a breeze, and "cements" the token in scale with most pages. 2. This is almost certainly due to not making setting the default token the very last step. Setting the default token is akin to saving a document. If you set up a token, set as default and then make changes to that token, you have not "saved your work". Dragging out a new token will be the equivalent of dragging it out in the state it was in the last time you set the default. More info:  Linking Tokens to Journals
