"There is always and adventure ahead, a new place to explore, fantastic sights to see and things to discover...in this World of Dungeons!" Greetings, the name is Gin and I am looking for 3-4 players who are interested in a long-term game set in a fantastical, "High-Magic" world where wondrous areas and actual "Dungeons" beckon the curious, adventurous and brave! The game itself is rules-light, using the d6 System from Burning Wheel for all rolls (i.e. you roll as many dice as you have "Skillranks", plus any bonuses/penalties) while borrowing some bits and pieces from Pathfinder (mostly the Weapon Types, Skills and such). This is just to ensure Rolls happen quickly and do not interrupt the flow of the game much and keep the attention on the main focus: Roleplay > Rollplay: Clever Roleplaying is more rewarding than simply attempting a dice-roll to see if you do what you intend to. This includes thinking out of the box where planning ahead, where getting the drop on unsuspecting foes might let you strike without the need to roll (after that though...) Narrative Action over picking options: Instead of looking up what situation demands what change to your rolls or actions it is the way you describe the action that will make clear what you do. You want to feign the enemy? That's just you trying to use your skills at the sword to befuddle the enemy, the only bonuses or penalties would be, for example, when specializing in feinting or being worse at it thanks to a roughed-up wrist. Reacting the way you want to: In Pathfinder you need to hit the enemy Armor Class to hit an enemy and the options to defend yourself are either limited or "locked" behind Feats or only available to a certain class. Here things are different in that you are free to try a parry in melee at any time or use your shield to "tank" the damage instead as opposed to being a simple boost to your defenses. Incidentally this also means that said shield-block would damage your shield, meaning repairs and mending will have to be done sometime down the road. After all: More Options equal More Consequences! To ensure that this is possible the game is largely a Play-by-Post game and "split" between Roll20 and Discord: I use a Discord Server to better organize the Roleplaying (using Channels for Solo-Adventures and Player-Only knowledge without losing that in the Roll20 chat) while Roll20 will be used for the tactical battles and to set some scenes. While there will be a voice-chat for chatter this is largely a Text-Only game, running at a steady pace with all major combat scenes being planned with the group. I seek to write a "story" together with others and that can take time and might not be possible every day. Having a shaky work schedule still allows you to post when you find the time without missing out while the times we play on Roll20 will be planned to adjust to everyone's needs. In turn for this slow approach all players can explore all aspects of the setting and its features on a more detailed level, which includes: The eponymous “Dungeons”: As the name suggests this is a world abundant in Dungeons (indeed the “RNG” kind), all due to a pact with a cosmic being out for...entertainment? Custom Spells and “Free-Flow” Magic: There are no set spells to learn here, only the mastery over the various “Spheres of Magic” (not related to Spheres of Power/Might!). Casting magic is done by using your own skills while “Spell” are simply magic effects you trained over and over to cast them more easily. Extensive Crafting (esp. for Magic Items): A light-weight crafting system can be used to create items suiting your needs, with the amount of resources and the resources themselves being important instead of a set item value. Of course getting them might require some exploring or hunting... An abundance of strange and at times surreal places: Lore-wise a cataclysmic event shook the world almost a century ago, but instead of a barren wasteland it ended up creating places of great magical power, infused with the elements or other strange features. Magic-Punk: Thaumaturgy is a magical tradition using innate magical “essence” within objects and living beings to create a myriad of magical items, all while not requiring one to be able to cast magic to study it! It has been shaping the world for a long time now and its use is becoming more and more widespread. Lastly I would like to mention that I live in Germany (GMT+01) and players from faraway time-zones (like the US) would likely only see planned session on week-ends (Friday to Saturday) as I have no time during the week sadly, not including vacations. Otherwise I am open most of the time, so if that is not an issue and the above ideas interest you then send me a PM or reply to the thread here! For questions it is better to just PM me to not clog this threat though.
