Very new and overwhelmed.

Hello! I'm very new to this kind of thing, I've wanted to play d&d and similar games since middle school but I've always been very shy and isolated so I never had anyone to play with. I'm still tentative about meeting new people so I decided to try to play a game online... But I'm finding myself heavily overwhelmed and not sure where to start at all. I've roleplayed before, quite a bit actually, I love to write and create characters and stories. I am interested in more medieval fantasy type things than science fiction. I'm hoping someone will want to take me under their wing and into their game and be patient with me.

Hi Flan. Don't worry, most DM's are willing to just take on all the burden needed for organizing play so mostly it's just a matter of signing on with a DM who's available time lines up with your own. If you want I can give you a rundown of all the nerd jargon and help you parse.

Hello Flan Cake, The most important thing is to have fun. I'm not going to lie about it being easy. Finding people that you can be comfortable with and around is one of the things that is needed for some of this "magic" to happen. It will take you time. It will probably take several times. Folks online tend to feel less obligation to the games and people they play with, at least in my experience. The good news here is that I think it's okay to take a couple of shots at it.
