When the cataclysm struck, innkeeper Madame Rosene, a serious woman now in her late fifties, sheltered refugees within her walls. The Driftwood offered people a makeshift city hall and gathering place during the troubled years.   Madame Rosene and her regulars have filled the inside of the tavern with bric-a-brac, curios, and relics of Neverwinter before its fall. The statue from a favorite fountain stands in a corner.   A wine seller’s planter boxes, filled with flowers, brighten tile walls. Knobs and knockers from a noble’s estate are attached to the front doors. Ornate doors pulled from the wreckage make fine tables, and unbroken panes of stained glass hang overhead as chandeliers, lit by hundreds of carefully placed candles.   Though the decorations have been salvaged from all over the city, the tavern does not feel junky, and no one thinks Madame Rosene is taking advantage of Neverwinter’s fall. Quite the opposite-the Driftwood is considered a monument to old Neverwinter, like a dusty painting of a beautiful girl hanging above the deathbed of an aged noblewoman.   Prices for room and board at the tavern are high. The atmosphere is one of quiet reflection, rather than boisterous merriment. The Mintarn mercenaries stay away, preferring to eat and drink at the Moonstone Mask or sorne other cheaper place. Visitors to the city stop at the Driftwood to marvel at the museum of objects, or to learn about old Neverwinter from Madame Rosene for the (expensive) price of a drink and a meal.   Only longtime customers and old friends come to the Driftwood regularly.    The party enters the Drifwood Tavern for their usual Saturday morning breakfast get-together and remove and place their weapons into the foyer to the side of the entrance.   As they enter they are greeted by the barmaid Shandra Brennick, whom tells the party that their friend, Sildar Hallwinter, has a dwarf friend with him that he wants the group to meet.   They pass by the bar area to see Madame Rosene, the owner, busy with other customers. Madame Rosene, nods in acknowledgement of the party’s greetings as they pass by, to a corner area of the tavern where Sildar and his dwarf friend are sitting at a table. Sildar, waving for them to come on over.   After morning greetings to each other, Sildar Hallwinter, introduced the dwarf fellow as Gundren Rockseeker, who wanted to meet the party, as they were recommended by Sildar, for a job.   Gundren Rockseeker, then tells the party, he needs folks to help with getting a supply wagon down to the to town of Phandalin, a couple days journey away, offering 10 gold coins a piece for the job.   But first Gundred wanted to size up the party, so he has Sildar take them outside to demonstrate their ability to defend themselves and attack.   Arnie the lightfoot Halfling, went first demonstrating her longbow and axe throwing skills, targeting his shield, Sildar then knocking them away. Sildar then tests her defense, swinging his great club at her, as she tries to dodge and Sildar pulls the blow short so it doesn’t strike.   Gerjio the Tortle, goes next, displaying his shortsword skills. Sildar then moves to attack with his long sword as Gerjio, defly dodges the strike.   Vin the Changeling, is next and displays her spell casting skills, using wild magic, a Chaos Bolt is cast, which surprises Sildar, having not known she knew the spell. The sound of thunder reverberating off his shield, knocking him back.   Arnie and Vin make Insight rolls at this point, trying to gauge what Sildar might be thinking. Arnie rolls an 18, the result being that she believes Sildar is impressed with what she demonstrated. Vin rolled an 11, the result being that Sildar seems mildly impressed with her martial abilities, but there seems to be something else that he is mulling over. Sildar, walks over to each of them placing a finger over their heart, asking each one to convince him that they have what it takes to do the job.   At this point, they can try to deceive, intimidate or persuade, Sildar as they say something to him. Arnie didn’t really have or know of what to say and that was OK with Sildar. Vin tries to intimidate rolling a 23, indicating Sildar was surely so. Gerjio tries to persuade rolling an 8. Sildar just acknowledges with a nod.   Sildar then moves over to Gundren whom was watching the whole exchange and they have a short discussion.   They both walk back over to the party and Sildar tells them Gundren believes they are up to the task. Gundren, whom was impressed, then ups the offer to 15 gold coins for each person.   Vin tries another insight roll, to get a feel for if Gundren, would be willing to go higher than the new offer of 15 gold coins each, rolling a 21. Vin gets the feeling that is all they are going to get.   Gundren then proceeds to give the group, instructions, telling them to report to the Shiprite Warehouse first thing in the morning, where the owner Berk Weatherhouse, will have the supply wagon ready to go.   Gundren informs the party that Sildar and him, are leaving for Phandalin, today, ahead of the party. They are to drop off the supply wagon at the trading post, Berthen’s Provisions, then meet up with Sildar & Gruden at the Stonehill Inn, where they will be staying.   Gundren tells the party, that along with his brothers Nundro and Tharden, they came upon, ‘something big’, and he wants to get the supplies safely to Phandalin.   The next day, the party arrives at the Shiprite Warehouse and meet Berk Weatherhouse, in the office area. Berk then takes the party into the warehouse and shows them the supply wagon with two of the best oxen hitched to it, fully loaded and ready to go. Berk then moves the wagon outside, asking if they have all their personal belongings they wanted to bring, before they set off.   Gerjio, gets on the wagon to steer it and they move off, leaving the city of Neverwinter and travel southward along the Sword coast road, called the High Road, about a day and a bit more travel before turning eastward onto the Triboar Trail.   Suddenly, the two Oxen, pulling the supply wagon stop in their tracks, not wanting to go farther!     And that ends the live gaming session for the day until next time! Thank You For Playing today's game 11/02/2019 - From 10:05 am EDT, until 12:45 pm EDT, and our 2nd Gaming Session, goes out to: Bard - Dragonborn -  Wuth Nonvul -  Mushroom Fighter - Tiefling - Myriandor -  Roxxifarius Horizon Walker Ranger – Tortle – Gerjio – Fshnurb Ranger – High Elf – Paco Bedo – Buddy-D Wild Magic Sorcereress – Changeling – Vin – Kath_B   Whom Could Not Make It Today! Fighter – Lightfoot Halfling – Arnie –  Punished (P)ooni i     Game Summary for Saturday (11/02/2019):   Opening Scene: In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named  Gundren Rockseeker  asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found “something big,” and that he’d pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to  Barthen’s Provisions , a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named  Sildar Hallwinter , claiming he needed to arrive early to “take care of business.” You’ve spent the last couple days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, approximately a 50 mile trip, traveling about a 4 mph pace and you’ve just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You’ve encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.   The oxen pulling the supply cart had stopped in their tracks on the Triboar trail. No amount of urge could get them to move on so the party looks around the area around them for any signs of trouble rolling perception checks and nothing was to be discerned. So Myriandor the fighter tiefling goes to the front of the oxen grabs some reins and tries to pull them forward while Vin rolls and Animal Handling check to try and calm them and succeeds. Myriandor rolls a strength check but fails to budge the oxen, however he foot slips and he rolls a dexterity check which was successful. Myriador was able to hold onto the reins preventing her from tumbling into what was a 10 ft deep x 6 ft wide pit, covered with a layer of foliage of which dirt from the path was layered over top. Moving the covering, and having a closer look into the hole revealed that the body of a gnome in Tymoran priest robes lying on the pit floor in a pool of blood, with several arrows protruding from him! Meanwhile, Wuth Nonvul the bard dragonborn, probes the trail, here and there checking for other pits. Wuth comes over and has a look at the gnome corpse but could not gauge how long he’s been dead after doing an investigation check. However, the gnome was not severely rotted yet. Vin the wild magic socereress changeling, meanwhile guides the now calmed oxen around the hole, with a successful animal handling check. Vin names the oxen Stef and Jeff. Myriandor finds on the gnome’s body, his holy symbol of Tymora, the goddess of good fortune and luck, know throughout the realm. On the back if it is engraved to fancy letter ‘Y’s. In a pocket is found a strange spongy feeling bead and his quarterstaff is in the pit. Myriandor takes the items. The party continues onwards, heading easterly along the Triboar trail for awhile when they go down into a valley covered in dense morning fog, obscuring the trail and come upon two dead horses lying in the road. Each horse has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side. Wuth Nonvul, warns the party that bandits are likely nearby. Paco Bedo the ranger, Wuth and Myriandor move to have a closer look at the two horses when arrows come flying from either side of the path at them. One arrow hits Wuth for 4 damage and one strikes Myriandor for 6 damage. Another arrow flies past Paco!   Initiative rolls are made and Round 1 of Combat begins: Wuth Nonvul, tries a psychic attack called Vicious Mockery on Goblin #02, but he makes a wisdom save so no damage! Vin, cast a psychic Mind Sliver attack but Goblin #03 but he makes his intelligence save so no damage! Paco, fired an arrow with his long bow, hitting and killing Goblin #04 with 12 hit points of damage! Myriandor, fires her heavy crossbow at Goblin #05 but the bolt missed! Goblin #03, comes running towards the party at this point, with scimitar in hand. Goblin #02, fires an arrow with a short bow hitting Paco for 5 damage! Goblin #01, fires an arrow with a short bow at Myriandor for 6 damage, dropping her!   Round 2 of Combat: Wuth, using the psychi attack, Vicious Mockery on Goblin #01, hitting for 1 damage! Arnie, fires the longbow at Goblin #01, the arrow hits for 6 damage, defeating the goblin! Gerjio, fires his longbow at Goblin #02, the arrow hitting for 7 damage dropping Goblin #02! Paco, fired his long bow at Goblin #05 but missed! Vin, uses the psychic Mind Sliver attack on Goblin #03 and hits for 4 damage!   Round 3 of Combat: Paco, fires his longbow at Goblin #05, the arrow hitting for 9 damage and dropping him! Myriandor, makes a successful 1 st Death Save! Goblin #04, starts to run north! Arnie, fires the longbow, hitting Goblin #04 for 6 damage! Gerjio, fires his longbow, hitting Goblin #04 for 5 damage, defeating the last goblin! End of Combat!   Arnie and Vin tries to stabilize Myriandor’s wounds, using a medicine check, but could not. Myriandor, makes a second Death Save but it fails. Wuth, comes over to Heal 4 hit points with a Cure Wound spell, saving Myriandor from death! Paco, recovers 2 of the three arrows he fired.   Searching the goblin bodies, finds that they are wearing leather armor with shields that have a painting of a maw of jagged sharp teeth. Each one also has a scimitar and short bow with a quiver of 20 arrows minus any that were fired. Wuth, moves the dead horses aside, clearing the road. Myriandor says, “Anyone know of any god that would work with goblins, as a maw with sharp teeth?” The party, starts searching around the ambush area, when it’s Paco, that stumbles onto a small north path. He goes back to inform the party. Arnie and Gerjio stays with the cart which is tied to some tree along the side of the trail, as the rest of the party venture up the discovered path. Wuth moves along the tree-line of the path. About a mile later Paco, failing to spot a snare trap, sets it off, however his dexterity check indicates a success, so he dodged the trap in time! About 10 minutes later, Myriandor, fails to spot a pit trap, falling into it. It is similar to the one that the Tymoran gnome priest was found it, being 10 ft deep x 6 ft wide. She takes 4 hit points of damage dropping her unconscious! Wuth, enter the pit and heals back 5 hit points to Myriandor and helps her out of the pit! The party takes a short (4 hour) rest and Paco heals back 6, Wuth heals back 8, Myriandor heals back 4 hit points. The group, continue up the narrow path in a north westerly direction, for another 4 miles, until they come to a small stream just ahead.   And that ends the live gaming session for the day until next time!   Number of Sessions for current Adventure Module: 2nd Session for “Lost Mines of Phandelver” 11/02/2019 [1 st Session start was 10/26/2019]
