Is this different here from the rest? Dungeon Master (GM): no, that is how the floor has been throughout actually as depicted on the map ok, it appears you can go either southwest or northeast from here and you have that hole where the carrion crawler came out from Perren: lets go north or the hole Maevis Silverleaf: Hole Perren: what do you guys think? GreyWolfVT (Grax): doesn't matter to me Balen the Human Bard Says: "Can't the witch fly up there and shine a light up into the hole?" Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: If someone can check out the hole there may be something from some other creatures that the crawler has in its lari lair Balen the Human Bard Says: "Or maybe it's mate??" Dungeon Master (GM): i guess she could do it on the broom holding it flat against her body Maevis Silverleaf: Sure Send her up the hole see if anythings there? Balen the Human Bard Says: "In my experience if someone is driven out of their bedchambers, it's because the spouse is either unhappy, or has strange cravings that must be fulfilled!" Maevis Silverleaf "Its also possible it heard combat and came to investigate
Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: What does Cass find inside the hole Dungeon Master (GM): ok turns out the chimney is actually 6 feet wide so no problem for the witch to get up there and it goes roughly 3,000 ft up to the top where a large stone appears to be blocking most of the hole Hello Devin! Maevis Silverleaf: Ok so how about NW? Balen: Most of? How much room in the "unblocked portion? Dungeon Master (GM): NW would take you back to the fungi cave where you met the Xorn a human would still need to move the stone to get through it Maevis Silverleaf: Alright so NE ? Perren: yeah GreyWolfVT (Grax): any direction is fine with me Balen the Human Bard Says: "So we're going to leave a place where something could drop down BEHIND us? OKAAAAAAAY" Dungeon Master (GM): i remind you there are still stalactites beyond where you are Balen: Balen summersaults in the direction of the NE passage! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I will go at a much more reasonable pace. Dungeon Master (GM): Area Description: The path ends at the edge of a chamber. Filling the chamber is a large pool of water of unknown depth. A row of moss covered boulders stretches about halfway across the chamber toward an exit on the other side. The ceiling is free of stalactites and the walls are coated with fungi. The water ripples as if a slight current were flowing through the pool. Well, since the description says you see the other side, i'll reveal it Devin M.: Hello, I am here. Maevis Silverleaf: Hey Devin Glad you made it Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I dont see no boulders Maevis Silverleaf "Ware the water, there maybe something in there" Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I wonder if those ripples are made by Quintolos? Dungeon Master (GM): I did not find graphic good enough to represent the boulders Balen the Human Bard Says: "Hey Quint! IZZAT YOU?" Dungeon Master (GM): but they pretty much stretch in a straight line to the other side. Perren the Elf Cavalier(knight) Says: "Shall we ford the river?" Balen the Human Bard Says: "Or could it be Mr Xorn takin' a bath?" Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I'm not much for trying to cross it when we have other options. but I will if the party chooses Xilicien: Perhaps we should have Cassandra scout ahead whilst invisible, first. Dungeon Master (GM): i assume she crosses over the water via the broom? Perren: sounds good to me Maevis Silverleaf: Fly high as she can in case there is something in there" Dungeon Master (GM): ok maevis Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: and drop some rocks in the water while she is at it Xilicien: Oh, wake it up, why don't you? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: its already awake.. it’s making ripples GreyWolfVT (Grax): meh Dungeon Master (GM): do you want her to go beyond that 700 ft marker? it's not a chasm there it's just where the '700' ft exists Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: not ny further from the party Maevis Silverleaf: Yeah Dungeon Master (GM): so she's not dropping rocks into the water? Balen the Human Bard Says: "Can we give her a rope to carry across? Something that might give us something to hold on to if we are going to try skipping across the mossy patches?" Dungeon Master (GM): I remind you the witch can take one person at a time on the broom with her GreyWolfVT (Grax): blah blah blah :P Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I dont think she is dropping things. Dungeon Master (GM): ok GreyWolfVT (Grax): she's dropping Balen's stuff into the pool Maevis Silverleaf: As long as nothing comes out of the water Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: drag one of the piervers up here and throw it in the water? no? peircers Balen the Human Bard Says: "Moss on boulders means you’re sure to slip – fall on rocks you might just break a hip – but if not you can bet – you will surely get wet – Take a chance, you just might take a dip!" GreyWolfVT (Grax): those things are not usually very small Balen the Human Bard Says: "Now Grax! What stuff do I have that is dirty as a dwarf and in need of a good washing?" GreyWolfVT (Grax): the piercers that is Dungeon Master (GM): so are we all going to cross with the witch's help? GreyWolfVT (Grax): sure Devin M.: Yes. Maevis Silverleaf: Sure as long as nothing comes out of the water Devin M.: How long did we have a Phicenta? Dungeon Master (GM): he is the most recent new player, like rowan he was one of the hireling/henchmen GreyWolfVT (Grax): she/he was living in Balen's pack don't judge Dungeon Master (GM): ok so you all make it over and down to the 700 ft marker
Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: yay..... Dungeon Master (GM): you may proceed it appears to be an empty cavern area, nothing stirs in the area right now Maevis Silverleaf: So Broom it over/up ? then move on? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: cieling? ceiling Dungeon Master (GM): a passages appear to continue North East from here Balen the Human Bard Says: "Hey! Grax, ole buddy. Are we getting any deeper in here? Or climbing up any? Like down to where the water current could be, or up to where the carrion crawler's chimney went?" Dungeon Master (GM): ok the passage splits here Perren: so north or west, what do you guys think? Dungeon Master (GM): either northwest or north east Xilicien: West. Maevis Silverleaf: I vote North Xilicien: Anyone else? Maevis Silverleaf: East Perren: I don' care Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: North seems to be the popular choice so far. GreyWolfVT (Grax): North Perren: ok Dungeon Master (GM): (To GM)rolling 96 45 55 Dungeon Master (GM): ok, i will be needing surprise rolls from perren and grax! they suddenly find that they are in webbing which they could not see (DM roll indicated so) SURPRISE ROLL For Grax the Shield Dwarf Fighter / Thief Rolls to see if he is Surprised! Result whispered to DM. (From GreyWolfVT (Grax)): Grax's Surprise Roll Result: 79 % : If ≤ 10% is rolled he is surprised! Perren the Cavalier(knight), rolls to see if he is Surprised ! Result shown to DM (From Perren): Surprise roll 6 : If 1 is rolled he is surprised! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: should have carried a torch (From Maevis Silverleaf): If Quintolos is trying to follow the party I think he will be lost haha Perren: i do Dungeon Master (GM): ok so neither is surprised (To Maevis Silverleaf): He would not even be here yet of course Dungeon Master (GM): ok, so what they see here are 1 giant spider and 3 large ones! and yes they are hungry and attacking! Balen: With Perren's light (yellow dot?) Can we see how many large spiders are ahead of him and Grax? Dungeon Master (GM): perren and grax also hear voices and see lights coming from the eastern passages where i Ping those two are stuck in webs so when it's your turn you'll need to try and get out of them So yes, time for initiative rolls! WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger, gets ready to make an attack move! Bite Strike Hits an AC of 11 For 6 HP S/M/L Damage! Plus roll a Save Vs Poison or Death! a miss at +4 to hit him even Start of Turn 1 for Xilicien (7) Xilicien: If Grax & Perren were to move, I could attempt to cast confusion on the spiders, but I'm out of directly offensive spells. Dungeon Master (GM): ok, but see they can't try to even move until it's their turns you can of course pass and stay put Xilicien: I can wait. Start of Turn 1 for Spider (Giant) -C10 (4) (Maevis Silverleaf): How high is the ceiling around the Huge Spider? Note: Module does not state it but I would have to say a minimum of 20 ft high given the giant spider present Note: I should have doubled up the Fireball Spell below, so that it would have went half the distance and twice the height!!!! GreyWolfVT (Grax): we're kinda pinned in place too so not really able to go anywhere Dungeon Master (GM): ok so opps i confused spiders here this one will be the large one I have the names not changed for the macro or something, it shows the right one in the turn order but i was just looking at the macro Spider (Large) #04 -C10, Attacks by BITING at Perren enemy! Bite Strike Hits an AC of 15 For 1 HP S/M/L Damage! I just did GreyWolfVT (Grax): ok well if that is the case I'll just cut out of game early since i have to waste that many rounds doing nothing Dungeon Master (GM): heh, ok, Ed, unless someone has something up their sleeves of course Start of Turn 1 for Spider (Large) #03 -C10 (3) Dungeon Master (GM): oh plus the two of you have 5% cummulative chance per round of suffocating! roll a 1d100 ed GreyWolfVT (Grax): rolling 1d100( 51 ) = 51 Dungeon Master (GM): ok you are good ok either grax or perren: 4 perren Spider (Large) #03 -C10, Attacks by BITING at Perren enemy! Bite Strike Hits an AC of 4 For 1 HP S/M/L Damage! Plus roll a Save Vs Poison at +2 or Death!}} a miss Perren: my strength is 17 btw Dungeon Master (GM): ok the macro looks right so i don't know what is going on there and for 17 strength i am not sure of the time you need to cut out i believe it is in the DMG let me check the web spell first Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: 13-17 it is all the same Dungeon Master (GM): ok so each time it is grax and Perren's turn you cut away 1 feet of webbing until you see the end of the white area you are in. that's 10 minutes to cut though 1ft or 1 minute if you have 18+ strength Perren: so im pretty much stuck? Dungeon Master (GM): yep Start of Turn 1 for Cassandra (3) Perren: can I not attack? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: what does there/not there do, can she make the webs not there? Dungeon Master (GM): cass can try the scare, uncontrollable laughter, fireball or charm monster and I remind you of the voices and light seen up ahead in the east passage! ok only cast on non-living objects Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: so she should cast it on the webs encasing one of our party members and it may not be there anymore for him Dungeon Master (GM): yes
Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: in fact I believe she can cover them both, adn if they aren't there for them are they really not there? Cassandra the Witch, using a small piece of cat fur sealed inside a small box, cast the THERE / NOT THERE Spell upon Spider Webbing! Level 4 Magic-User / Witch (Wild) * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 10 Segments Range 30 ft / 30 yds outdoors Duration 5 Turns Area of Effect 10 ft x 10 ft x 10 ft cube Saving Throw None Effects: This peculiar wild magic creates a random fluctuation in the probabilities of existence. The spell can be cast only upon nonliving objects. Objects in the area of effect either remain normal and visible or they disappear (50% chance). The state of existence for any object is determined randomly and changes with each viewing and viewer. Thus, a single object could appear and disappear several times during the course of the spell. Furthermore, it might he “there” for one onlooker, but “not there” for another. For example, a wild mage casts this spell on a doorway. The DM rolls percentile dice and determines the door is “there” for the wizard. The wizard‘s companion also looks at the door. The DM rolls and determines that the door is “not there” for the companion. The pair studies the door for several minutes, during which time the door does not change (this counts as a single viewing for each character). The wizard and his companion then close their eyes. When they look at the door again, new checks for each character reveal the door is “not there” for both characters. The pair steps through the open archway and turns around to look at the door once again. This time it is “not there” for the wizard, but “there” for his companion. This random changing continues throughout the duration of the spell. Objects that are “there” are normal in all respects. Doors can he opened, chests can he picked up and carried, and rocks can he used as barricades. Objects that are “not there” are gone, although their absence does not cause ceilings to collapse or other damage. A wizard could walk through a “not there” wall without difficulty. When two parties perceive a there not there object differently, the object functions for each party according to its own perceptions. For example, a wizard hides behind a rock that he sees as “there.” Her enemy, a fighter, perceives the rock as “not there” and fires arrows at the wizard. The wizard would perceive the arrows as bouncing off the rock, while the fighter would perceive the arrows as missing their target or falling short. The fighter would be subject to a check before firing each arrow to determine whether his perception changes (assume that the fighter must look away from the rock every time he nocks an arrow; each time he takes aim, this counts as a new viewing). After the spell is cast, any objects removed from the area of effect retain their uncertain existence for the duration of the spell. Thus, a pair of heroes could pick up a treasure chest, carry it down the hall, set it down, and discover it had vanished while their backs were turned. Worse still, one might see the chest and the other not! Dungeon Master (GM): ok so i need to make the roll for both of them (To GM)rolling 38 77 Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: right Dungeon Master (GM): ok for Grax the Web is 'Not There' For Perren it is still there! Xilicien: AM I the only one that read the first paragraph? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: but Greywolf left? Dungeon Master (GM): yep he would leave around 10 anyways and can't move until his next turn Start of Turn 1 for Perren (3) Perren: can I attack the spider next to me? Dungeon Master (GM): so perren is still cutting away at the web no it's to webby sticky around you yet Start of Turn 1 for Maevis (2) Maevis, using a tiny ball composed of bat guano and sulphur, cast the FIREBALL Spell! Pointing his/her finger at Spider (Giant) -C10, and speaking the range (distance and height) at which the fireball is to burst. Level 3 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 3 Segments Range 100ft + 10ft/level: 170 ft Indoors or yards outdoors Duration Instantaneous Area of Effect 20 ft radius sphere Saving Throw Vs Spells for Half Damage: 26 Hit Points of Damage! Effects: A streak flashes from the pointing digit and, unless it impacts upon a material body prior to attaining the prescribed range, flowers into an explosive burst of flame, which detonates with a low roar!! The burst of the fireball does not expend a considerable amount of pressure, and the burst will generally conform to the shape of the area in which it occurs, thus covering an area equal to its normal spherical volume. [The area which is covered by the fireball is a total volume of 33,510 cubic feet (or yards) (33.5, 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes)]. Besides causing damage to creatures, the fireball ignites all combustible materials within its burst radius, and the heat of the fireball will melt soft metals such as gold, copper, silver, etc. Items exposed to the spell’s effects must be rolled for to determine if they are affected. Items with a creature which makes its saving throw are considered as unaffected. Chance of Bardic Spell Failure (15%): 46 % Xilicien: Should've been cast on the webs. For future consideration. (there/not there) Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: It was cast on the webs. Maevis Silverleaf: Burn the party members also? Dungeon Master (GM): sure will, 33.5 10x10x10 ft cubes of area Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: Wholly ShITTTTTTT Maevis Silverleaf: mainly the huge spider Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: Its too big to just hit the spider Dungeon Master (GM): the blast will engulf everyone Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: yup Xilicien: Okay, that makes sense, I misread something.
Dungeon Master (GM): that said everyone could take the full damage but there is something also up ahead hearing the spider attack Maevis Silverleaf: Spider is 10 x 10 right? Icould cast it through the web also ahead of Perren and Grax Dungeon Master (GM): yes let me reveal more of perren's light then (From Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): Can I cut them free? or am I at the same rate of 1ft per turn? Maevis Silverleaf: Cast it down the passageway (From Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): I do have the ring of free action by the way (To Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): yes you could use your turn to assist, i guess i would reduce it to 5 minutes then instead of 10 Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: they'll be dead in 5 minutes.. lol (From Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): Shoot.. They'll be dead in 5 minutes.. the spiders that is.. Dungeon Master (GM): ok, so you want to cast down the south passage, the light and noise is coming from the east Maevis Silverleaf: Yes South Dungeon Master (GM): all the way to the end of the light source? it's actually another 30 more feet into shadowy light Maevis Silverleaf: I want it to burn some of the webbing not Perren or Grax Dungeon Master (GM): ok, going as far down as possible would engulf all but the giant spider Maevis Silverleaf: Ok Do it Dungeon Master (GM): so 10 ft closer would get the spider ok so you just blast it as far as you can see Maevis Silverleaf: Yes SAVE VS. If the Charming is a success: Bard’s Singing & Playing can charm Creatures within 40 ft. Creatures must Save Versus Petrification ( -1 on saving throw for every 3 levels of the bard) or be Charmed & sit entranced while the bard sings. Those not Charmed will listen to the bard for 1 full round. Charmed Creatures are subject to ‘Suggestion’, if the bard utilizes it, the charmed creatures must save vs petrification at -2 on their die rolls or be subject to the suggestion. Loud noise or physical attack will negate charm but not suggestion. This will last for 1 Turn (10 rounds) or 1 round per level of the Bard, which ever is better. (From Christopher G.): Chance to Charm is 34%: Rolling 54 % Dungeon Master (GM): ok, you rolled a 54% so not charmed as you need 34% or less Start of Turn 1 for Rowan & Hirelings (1) Christopher G.: Ok, so sits and listens for 1 full round.
