5E Charactermancer Errors

November 19 (5 years ago)

Was running a one-shot where everyone was Level 20, so we used the Charactermancer to speed things up.

One player was a Tempest Cleric. Clerics get subclass/Domain features at Lv 1, Lv 2, Lv 6, Lv 8, and Lv 17. The Charactermancer failed to add the features from Lv 6, Lv 8, and Lv 17.

Similarly, it failed to add the subclass features of a Divine Soul Sorcerer. Sorcerers get subclass features at Lv 1, Lv 6, Lv 14, and Lv 18. The Charactermancer failed to add the features of Lv 6, Lv 14, and Lv 18. In an odd twist, it added something which Sorcerers do not get at all: Evasion.

Hmm, that doesn't sound like normal behavior. Some questions:

Did you create the characters with Charactermancer and then save them, and then open them with Charactermancer Level Up?

Which character sheet are you using?

Are there specific features that did not get added, or did it not add any features at all?

Do you own (or rather, does the creator of the game own) Xanathar's guide on Roll20?

I as the person running the game created a new character, and then the Charactermancer was used to immediately level that new character sheet to Lv 20.

I used the official D&D 5th Edition sheet by Roll20.

A Cleric of Tempest Domain gets the following particular features. When I created a new character and immediately used the charactermancer to make them a Lv 20 Tempest Cleric, the charactermancer failed to give them the features in italics.

  • Bonus Proficiencies
  • Wrath of the Storm
  • two 1st-level spells
  • Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath
  • two 2nd-level spells
  • two 3rd-level spells
  • two 4th-level spells
  • Thunderbolt Strike
  • Divine Strike
  • two 5th-level spells
  • Stormborn

A Sorcerer of Divine Soul Origin gets the following particular features. When I created a new character and my friend immediately used the charactermancer to make them a Lv 20 Divine Soul Sorcerer, the charactermancer failed to give them the features in italics. Additionally, the Charactermancer added a feature which Sorcerers do not get. It added Evasion, which is a feature of the Rogue class.

  • Divine Magic
  • Favored By The Gods
  • Empowered Healing
  • Otherworldly Wings
  • Unearthly Rovery

I do not have Xanathar's, but the person who made the Divine Soul Sorcerer does. He also used the charactermancer to create a College of Swords Bard, and all the subclass features of that were added correctly.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are skipping a step. Charactermancer has two parts. Level 1 Charactermancer which is used to create a level one character, and then, after that work is saved and charactermancer is exited, you may run Charactermancer Level Up. As a test, I created a first level tempest cleric with Level 1 Charactermancer, ans saved work. Then I launched Charactermancer Level Up and leveled it to level 20. All spells and features you noted as missing were present on the final character sheet.

If I have misunderstood you, please let me know, but I cannot duplicate those results when using Level 1 Charactermancer, saving and then running Charactermancer Level Up.

I am also unable to reproduce this, but that's what happened, to the best of my recollection.

Is everything functioning correctly now, then?
