Being able to preview a character needs a PRO ACCOUNT ?

Hello, It's my first post on your Forum so I'll start by introduce myself , I'm Adrien , 29 , from France . I'm doing this post because I'm willing to play a game with some friends on long distance , so Roll20 is one perfect choice.  I decided to add a Character Sheet from the settings for RMSS . After some scrolling and toying with the character sheet i've found myself unable to select a profession for my character . As a web-developer I decided to take a look at the code behind on the GitHub and I saw  there's some <select> (for selecting the profression for exemple) commented out. I want to try to uncommenting out but i'm facing the problem of needing a PRO ACCOUNT to be able to preview the modifications I've done. My question is : is it rationnal to ask for the community members to pay to participate to the effort of making roll20 a better space for us all to play our beloved games ?

It is a Pro perk to customize character sheets. I can't speak to the reasons, but it would make sense from the perspective of A) monetizing the site (a necessity), and B) controlling the code base (much easier to monitor a small group of known individuals than any random person on the web). Roll20 is not open source. You are always free to comment or open issues on Github, of course.

If you find a Pro member who is willing to help test your changes, you can manage somewhat without a Pro account. The " Rolemaster Standard System " sheet is pretty old and haven't gained any major updates in a year, so there are likely lots of improvements that could be done. Oddly enough, it seems to use the html file that haven't been updated in 3 years, while someone have updated the html with the longer name. Think you might want to compare which contains most features you're after. Considering you're a web-developer, I guess you'd quickly pick up on the restrictions/framework Roll20 character sheets are made with. If you get familiar with Building Character Sheets (which tells most of the unique things Roll20 does apart from standard html/css/javascript), and send my way a gist with changes you thing could work, I could make a test campaign for you to see if it works as you think. My question is : is it rationnal to ask for the community members to pay to participate to the effort of making roll20 a better space for us all to play our beloved games ? You could also vote & comment on the Allow Sheet Authors to Make Custom Sheets suggestion, that is related to your opinion here.
Yes it is perfectly rational and reasonable. This is not a "free hobby" no matter what anyone wants to tell you. Very few hobbies are, but this is certainly not one of them. Since day 1 gaming has been a for profit industry driven by companies that need to make money in order to continue bringing us the games we love. Roll20 is no different. Without being able to make a profit, Roll20 would shutdown, and then there would be even less free resources for gaming available.

The basic rmss sheet on the drop down does not have any auto-fills in it because of performance issues when the sheets came out.&nbsp; The longer name one is in the process of being updated but I've still been playtesting the updates because they are very extensive.&nbsp; The dropdown is commented out because it is too restrictive and is depreciated code; The new version uses sheetworkers to match a profession name for filling in information and accepts custom professions by not filling in anything for you.&nbsp; There is a mouse-over which tells you which professions (and races) will fill in bonuses. Once the new sheet is out there, it will eventually replace the non-calculating sheet version as well as the calculating sheet version and you can choose which calculations to use. If you would like a preview on how the new sheet is shaping up, you can find it here: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/join/4174018/Hx8C4A" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/join/4174018/Hx8C4A</a> &nbsp; There are a few characters to play with as well as some creatures and the game is open to copy in through the vault if you want to see how a character converts from the old sheet to the new.&nbsp; Let me know if you want GM access so you can poke at things. :)&nbsp;
