Pro Referee Expectations When playing in one of our games it is important that
players know what they can expect from one of our referees (refs). If for
any reason you feel that your ref is not following these procedures feel free
to contact us. What can you expect: 1. Session Descriptions: The ref should describe specifically what type of
game session they will be running (such as a one-shot session, adventure or
campaign). In addition to the type of session they should include a
description of the game system and edition that is being run. Players
should know if they can create characters prior to the game start and what the
ref looks for to approve the character. A summary of the game story/
adventure/ campaign. The time, date, and frequency of play (if
applicable). If there is any “house rules” they should also be
posted. Any fees should be mentioned up front, all payments are to be
made to the company never to the ref to include any forms of gratuities.
Note: We have many free sessions, therefore if the session has no fee in
its description it is a free session. Please enjoy all our free sessions
we have to offer and look for more in the future. 2. Neutral Conduct and Fair Treatment: Our refs are always expected to
treat every player fairly and the player characters with neutrality (with
certain setting exceptions. There are certain game systems like
Hackmaster which pits the ref against the players). Unless the game
system states otherwise the ref is not the enemy of the player
characters. Every player should feel included and allowed to participate,
no one player should dominate the game. Refs will try their best to keep
all players involved. 3. NO tolerance for Discrimination and Harassment . We expect our refs to follow our
Participant Conduct just like other attendees. 4. Your Time is Important : Games should start no later than 15 minutes from
posted starting time (if all players are present game time should begin as
listed without delay). If a session for whatever reason will not be
played, the ref will notify all participants ASAP. Refunds if due, will
be issued by the company. 5. Adjusting on the Fly: Preparation is an important aspect to
refereeing. Our refs are prepared to adjust on the fly based on the
action of players. Refs also take their time to prepare their adventures
for the participants prior to each session. 6. Storytelling : Refs set the scenes, help players stay in character, and
set the mood. 7. Refereeing : Refs will interpret the rules and make decisions to keep
the game moving. They will not allow the game to slow down for long
periods of time. This includes making rule decisions quickly.
Please save any disagreements and questions for after the game session. 8. Teaching: It is the job of the storyteller to assist new player in
not only learning how to role-play their characters (if desired), but also
teaching players the game system rules. While we recommend players
purchase the Core Rulebook for the game system, any of our games listed with
“New Players Welcome,” will include the refs helping new players learn the
rules prior to and during game sessions. 9. Correspondence out of game : Players should at minimum have a
contact email provided for the session referee. If you are unable to
correspond with the ref, please contact Mami
10. Providing
an Enjoyable Experience :
The number one reason why we all play tabletop role-playing games is for the
enjoyment. Our goal is to provide an entertaining session and have
fun. In the end, our refs' primary job is to provide a challenging
session of fun for everyone. If we are not providing a fun experience,
please let us know and tell us what it is you feel we can do to improve your
experience with us. If you have suggestion or comments, please me. Mami RP Gaming
