5e campaign "open world"

I'm looking to start a game that's more open world based there will be a main plotline but if you want to hold off on that and go down some side quests for better gear feel free i want it to be a more narrative driven game but including some good dungeon crawls this is my first DM experience but I've played 5e several times please post here or message me on discord timeless_timebomb#3921 and we can chat it up.
Preferred Name:   Lee Experience:  10 years with dnd playing 5th since release Why you want to join:  Interested in a sand-box style game and how my character can add to that/inspire it roleplay wise Why you would be a good pick:  Knowledgeable  of the rules/roll20 and fun to be around! Known to be a team player Flaws as a player:   A tendency to step back in some decision making regarding the initiation of combat. In other words may feel the need to rush in if a party takes too long ( in my mind 30 plus mins) in deciding how to start a combat Desired character:   Carric Windrunner. A wood Elf Ranger adopted by a High Elf family at birth. He would bring home trophies of kill from the wild that his parents strongly discouraged leading him to pursue his own interests and make a living in the mountains taking up various mercenary work and Bounties on local Beast that were causing problems.  Discord Kon22#0181
Preferred Name: Zack Experience: Roughly 10 years as a player, half of which has been on and off DMing Why you want to join: I really love playing DND in fun and interesting fantasy settings Why you would be a good pick: I have years of experience playing and DMing 5e games as well as an open schedule to show up to sessions regularly Flaws as a player: I don't have much interest in games that tend too much in the direction of all combat or all RP. I like to have a good mix between both Desired character: I currently have an outlander barbarian shifter in mind that I think would be a lot of fun. My idea is that he was abandoned by his family in the woods then raised by wolves who he now sees as his family. His inherent shifter abilities allowed him to survive and even thrive amongst the wolves and their harsh environments. He now searches through the lands to find adventure and locate his real family.
