Help with using the ipad for roll20

Hello, my friend is trying to use roll20 for the first time, and is stuck with his only option being an ipad. He used his ipads laptop browser, and everything looked just like it would on computer, so we were happy. What we couldn't figure out is how to do certain things, and I am asking if anyone could help me figure out if these things are possible, and if so, how to do them. So we had him drag from the character sheet onto the interface the character portrait to use as a mini, which worked fine, but we couldn't figure out how to get him to move the mini on the interface. Holding down would just ping the map, and tapping would just open the options for applying icons onto the mini. Anyone know how to manage moving the mini? The other thing we couldn't figure out is when you open additional windows on the roll20 app to see things like your character sheet/bio etc. we couldn't control the window size in order to expand it out. Is there a way to do this? Any help would be much appreciated!

I am assuming your friend is a Plus or Pro subscriber, in order to use Table on Tablet. They should go through this page and see if it can help any.
Thanks for the reply, keith. No, he isn't a pro or plus. Tomorrow I'll see what happens if he can move the mini by using 2 fingers. The wiki thing doesn't seem too helpful. Hopefully someone with personal experience can give me information.

Curious. I didn't think table on tablet would work at all if the user is not a subscriber. That may be the problem.
Just now he's trying the app and tried to launch the game through that, but all it did was open his browser with endless loading. This is tree link the app uses <a href="https://js.stripe.com/v2/m/outer.html#url=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.roll20.net%2Fcompendium%2F%3Finapp%3Dtrue&amp;title=Roll20%20Compendium&amp;referrer=http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A62145%2Fsrc%2Fapp.html%3Fcampaignid%3D5506271&amp;muid=3f805c20-ccba-4abb-ac05-040e5276f578&amp;sid=b49c6452-5587-4074-b898-deeb21316c7c&amp;preview=false" rel="nofollow">https://js.stripe.com/v2/m/outer.html#url=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.roll20.net%2Fcompendium%2F%3Finapp%3Dtrue&amp;title=Roll20%20Compendium&amp;referrer=http%3A%2F%2F127.0.0.1%3A62145%2Fsrc%2Fapp.html%3Fcampaignid%3D5506271&amp;muid=3f805c20-ccba-4abb-ac05-040e5276f578&amp;sid=b49c6452-5587-4074-b898-deeb21316c7c&amp;preview=false</a> I'd figure the app would lunch the game in the app. Is this how the app is supposed to work on regards to it opening up the game through the browser?

The App and Table on Tablet are two different things. The App is designed to allow you to see character sheets, roll dice and read handouts. It's an accessory, and the iOS version is currently broken. At this point, I would not recommend the App on iOS. Apple changed its policy on web app development architecture some time ago, and Roll20 has not yet released a compliant version. This has been stated in forum, but the wiki does not communicate this (it should). Table on Tablet is a subscriber feature that allows you to run the full game on a mobile device. The iPad can run this, depending on the age of the iPad, and the link I gave above shows the controls. If your friend is not a subscriber, they cannot use a mobile device in order to get the full Roll20 site. If an iPad is their only choice for a mobile device, the App is non functional. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
It's working through the browser just fine, but we can't figure out how to do the things I mentioned. Hopefully someone with experience with using the ipad can tell us how they move minis, and expand the size of the additional Windows.
Hi&nbsp;Rapanui -&nbsp; To confirm, are you saying your friend is trying to access the Roll20 app, but it is stuck on an infinite loading screen and nothing else is working on it?
We're no longer going to try the application. Later on he downloaded the app, and it just never got past loading the game when he tried to connect to the game. We're just trying to figure out how to do those basic functions while he uses roll20 on his browser. Must be a special way to move the mini, and you drag and expand windows.
Hello&nbsp;Rapanui -&nbsp; Hmmm, very strange. Again, to confirm, your friend is now using their tablet browser to try and connect to Roll20? If that is the case, Roll20 should not be able to work on a tablet browser, unless your friend has a subscription (Table on Tablet).
I'm just trying to figure out how someone moves the mini on the interface, and how someone could expand the windows you open up, like character sheets. If you know, could you please just tell me how to do those things.
Hi&nbsp;Rapanui -&nbsp; As keithcurtis mentioned, the controls for tablet devices using a browser are described&nbsp; here . To move a token on the tabletop, you would use one finger to select and drag it around. Additionally, there is a button right next to an entry's name for expanding the entry to a new window. If these functions aren't working as described, your friend might be using an unsupported device or browser. Please let us know if they aren't working so we can proceed with gathering additional information and further troubleshooting. Thanks!

The wiki describes this as a Plus/Pro feature, but as far as I can tell it’s the same experience regardless of whether you’re subscribed or not. It mostly works for me (and I love that it does!), but I do find that activating the context menu is really inconsistent: the wiki describes it as holding down on a selection for half a second, but I wasn’t able to trigger that consistently. I tried holding with one, two or three fingers, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Sometimes a ping fires, usually nothing happens. Occasionally the context menu pops up. That makes deleting content difficult! But it’s still great to have a map viewer that both IRL and remote players can see ☺️ (I’m using a 2019 iPad, and I’ve tested with Chrome, Safari and Edge. Same results with all browsers.)

Hi - just to keep it going, I am a pro user and this is happening to me also. when you select a game to join it stays on black loading screen and opens a web page to something called js.stripe which I believe is a payment platform. Seems a bit dodgy?&nbsp;

Are you using in tablet mode? &nbsp;I've tried in computer mode and could not move the character token or pan the map, only zoom it. &nbsp; In tablet mode everything worked fine. &nbsp;Could not activated sound and video though.
This inability for the iPad app to work is really going to put a cramp on our game play. &nbsp;Right now is not the time to be buying different equipment and when my husband needs the computer for work I need the players in my house to be able to use other devices. &nbsp; There are complaints from 2014 about the app getting stuck on the Loading screen, and it's still happening to me right now. &nbsp; As I'm looking at it. We are meant to start game play in four hours. &nbsp; This is not good at all.
I managed to work around this issue by downloading the google chrome app on my iPad and opening role 20 through there. I did this with a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9, I have not tested any other devices but it is worth a try. Seems to work the same on the chrome app as if I was on a pc

The app has been deprecated, and Table on Tablet has been made available to all subscription levels, where previously it was a paid feature. I.e. don't try to use the app, use Chrome or Firefox on your tablet. There are still a couple of quirks, reportedly, but it works well enough.
Hi, Nilo, I think you are describing a solution that has helped me, but does not appear to be described in the Roll20 documentation. Specifically, although the Roll20 site loads and looks as expected in my iPad Web browsers, some of the functionality does not work for me as described in the Table on Tablet help article&nbsp; unless my browser has loaded the Roll20 Mobile Website. The Safari browser switches between desktop and mobile if you tap the&nbsp; aA&nbsp; icon in the left end of the search bar and then tap either “Request Desktop Site” or “Request Mobile Site.” For Chrome or Firefox the procedure is similar, except you tap the ellipsis icon (&nbsp; ...&nbsp; ) to the right of the search bar. The Roll20 desktop and mobile sites look the same on my iPad, but the mobile site has better tablet support and I can “right click” on tokens just like the documentation describes. I still encounter some issues (for example, I cannot figure out how to delete uploaded images from My Library) but on the whole the mobile site offers a substantially better experience on my iPad. As designed — right Roll20 Team? Nilo said: Are you using in tablet mode? &nbsp;I've tried in computer mode and could not move the character token or pan the map, only zoom it. &nbsp; In tablet mode everything worked fine. &nbsp;Could not activated sound and video though.

Very good tip, Craig. I have updated the wiki with that info and passed this on to the dev team for the Help Center article.
I used my almost new iPad With a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. We played a test game and I found that google chrome was reducing functionality. I switched to safari and it works really well , so connect a wireless mouse and keyboard ,
I am using the last generation iPad Pro for my daughter. I can get everything loaded, but she sees the entire map. When she is logged onto an older laptop, she sees only what the GM allows her to see. I upgraded her to a paid account, have tried firefox, safari, and chrome with desktop and mobile settings on, and it makes no difference. On the IPad she sees the whole map. Any ideas?

That does sound weird. No ideas yet, but to help others figure this out, are you using Legacy or Updated Dynamic Lighting?
The GM says we are using Dynamic Lighting. He created our characters, so is there a setting that we are missing?
I am the GM and any help with this is appreciated, I cant have a PC running around my dungeon seeing all my secrets...lol
im having a small problem where one of my players is using an iPad and can't see my maps to move his token .... what am I missing for him to be able to at least see and move his token .... we don't need the chat function if I have to give up something
"of my players is using an iPad and can't see my maps to move his token" Hey, try this: <a href="https://youtu.be/_t30DtpQutE" rel="nofollow">https://youtu.be/_t30DtpQutE</a>
