Recap: Supermenace IV and Fin After Manifold opened the teleport tunnel for the group to
rendezvous at the hanger for the groups Fast Courier she closes the warp
without going through herself. The following morning Paladin, Apex, Marvel Girl, and Kismet
launch into space looking for Kryptonite. According to Professor Hamilton the
space warp that baby superman’s ship opened when it traveled from Krypton to
Earth also allowed so much Kryptonite to follow it here. It is reasonable to
assume that some Kryptonite fragments were deposited on other planets in the
solar system. They decided that the first place to look should be the
moon. Almost immediately Dewey, the second robot crewmen,
announced that they detected Kryptonite on the dark side of the moon. Hal set
course and they approached the deposit and were fired upon by three disruptor
batteries, projecting intense microwave energy. The first two missed completely
while the third battery exploded. The crew, using Hal and Dewey, tried to figure out what
races used that kind of weaponry. The number was extensive, too many to narrow
down. Apex(?) asked Dewey which races would make shoddy weapons that would
explode like that. Dewey stated that microwave disruptors were exceedingly
reliable and stable. The only reason Dewey could offer for a battery to explode
was poor maintenance. The group decided that was reasonable considering they
had no idea how old the weapon batteries might be. They decided to pass on the lunar Kryptonite and venture
further out: to Mars. A source of Kryptonite was located in the plains of Cydonia
near the Face and Pyramids of Mars. They set the ship down a Kilometer from the
deposit and let Apex fly out to retrieve it. He located three pieces: one the
size of a baseball, one the size of a golf ball, and one the size of a marble.
The stones were near an alter surrounded by a circle of pillars. Apex also
noticed that the pyramids and the face were obviously constructed, not natural
formations. Prioritizing the threat of the Eradicator over the exploration of
the Martian landscape he collected the stones and returned to the ship. They continued to search the solar system for more
Kryptonite but came up empty. It was nearly 6AM the next day, Friday the 13 th ,
when they finally landed the ship back in New York . Apex flew ahead to see Professor
Hamilton. Hamilton
confirmed that the golf ball sized sample he brought with him was indeed
Kryptonite. The professor offered to refine it but because the process would
take two days Apex declined. He then return to his hotel after letting the
professor know that the rest of the group would be by in about four more hours.
Paladin and the rest arrived at 2PM. The receptionist,
Hanna, offers them meal coupons. The professor said they would probably be
hungry. They go to see the professor first. Kismet goes to get everyone lunch
while the Professor examines the sample. After two hours he confirms that the
two stones, baseball sized and marble sized, are also Kryptonite. He makes the
same offer to refine the kryptonite ore. They allow him to work on the marble
sized sample. The group reunites at the hotel. After some discussion Paladin
called Lt. House. Paladin want to be sure that if the Brooklyn Brigade can take
down the Eradicator that Stronghold can hold him. House arranges for an agent
of Stronghold named Arthur Hammond to meet them at their base to discuss their
containment systems. Hammond
suggests that Stronghold will use a man-portable Hot Sleep system to transport
and then confine Superman if he is subdued. During the meeting Hammond tells the Brigade that PRIMUS might
already have a plan on how to deal with the Eradicator. Best case scenario the
Brigade won’t have to show up for the ‘duel’ on the 19 th . After Hammond
left the Brigade went out for pizza. The next morning the newspaper reports that PRIMUS tried to
bring the Eradicator in. PRIMUS failed, badly. Monday the 16 th Hamilton has finished with the refinement.
The marble yielded only 1 ounce of refined Kryptonite. Hamilton used half of it to create a cage,
lead on the outside low yielding Kryptonite on the inside. Hamilton hopes the strength is enough to
weaken the Eradicator but not do him harm. The Brigade decides not to use it. Time passes. Thursday July 19, Metropolis Park The Eradicator shows up and
with the help of the Kryptonite make ridiculously short work of
Superman-Eradicator. The Stronghold transport arrives and take him away on a
stretcher, Paladin makes note that they do not put the hot sleep system on him.
Marvel Girl follows the van as it leaves at a very high rate of speed but loses
it when it engages a stealth field. At the celebration back at Metropolis park the real crew of
the Stronghold van reach the park. They were attacked by a group that were well
trained and had sophisticated weaponry, including some kind of ray that induced
vertigo rendering the crew unable to fight. Apex called Lex Luthor to ask if he had kidnapped the
Eradicator.
‘I am a private citizen with no interest in kidnapping
anyone. However if I were a betting man I would wager that the Eradicator won’t
bother anyone ever again.’ Experience Awards: Atticus 10, Apex 10, Marvel Girl 12, Paladin 12, Kismet 7, Manifold 3
