Hello All! tl;dr -- I want to start a group to play one-shots of games that aren't DnD 5e, give people the opportunity to try out being a GM with people who can provide useful feedback, & maybe start a sub-community of people who get along together. Different days Mon or Wed (5:30~10pm) or Sun (12pm~10pm). I haven't been playing as many games lately as I would like. Roll20 has provided me more opportunities recently than real life has. However there are a few issues: huge imbalance of players to GMs, huge imbalance of DnD 5e to everything else, and (same as IRL) the difficulty of finding people to play with who are compatible as a group. So I could complain or try to do something about it. First, I would like to set up and run some one shots . This could give people the chance to play something they haven't tried before or play a game they like again. It would also give me the chance to play with people & see how well we get along. I have a long list of games for this -- Fiasco , Lady Blackbird , Over the Edge , more I could post if there's interest. Second, I'd like to find people who want to try GMing a game but haven't done it for whatever reason. Some folks are self-conscious (we all are). Some worry that they won't be any good (nobody starts at pro level, like any skill it needs practice). Some have tried and had people lose interest (you ask if players liked the game, they say "yeah" but then never want to play your games again). Maybe start with games that can be GM-less, let people play something with strong player agency -- Ironsworn or Fiasco again. Then move to something rules-light to learn general GM stuff without getting bogged down in rules -- old school Basic DnD , maybe Dungeon World , or learn the WaRP System from Over the Edge 2e. Eventually (or even just dive right into) games you already know you want to play ( WoD , FATE , Shadow Run , anything else people are into). I've also had the idea of having multiple GMs running for the same players. Taking turns running the game but with people you can be comfortable with. This idea is part of what makes me think of Ironsworn -- since it doesn't really need a GM -- and Basic DnD -- since the rules are so easy. I've though about doing something like this with The World's Largest Dungeon but it's DnD 3e & I still don't know quite how to make that work in a good way. Third, I want to find more people who I like playing TTRPGs with . Finding people to play interesting games with can be hard. Find people to play with who aren't complete muppets is really hard . So let's play some one shots. Find people you like without committing to a whole campaign. Take a chance running a game or two. It's more work than playing but it's different, like being a coach instead of a ball player, or getting to write a story and not just read other peoples' words. That got kind long but I think it gets everything out there that I wanted to say & ask. My life's always in flux but I have time most weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays (about 5:30 PM to 10 PM CST) and Sundays (afternoons). Who's in?
