I recently binge-watched this series on Crunchyroll over a weekend (and probably will do it again soon, just to rewatch a few scenes where I'm sure I missed something), and I let my mind wander about how I'd insert my usual character into the action (a pastime that I enjoy, as would be noted by anyone who's witnessed me tuning one of my Megan skins for an entirely new world/setting). Once I had her in my head, I started thinking about what possible plot that could go from there... and I was eventually running through entire episodes in my head. When I realized that I had a potential storyline to base a game on, and I don't often have my GMing juices flowing this readily, I figured that I'd check to see if anyone would even be interested in this. If I ran such a game, it would be split between Roll20 (for sessions) and Discord (for freeform character interactions between sessions). I only play/run text games, so we will not be using voice or video. For those unfamiliar with the series, the oversimplified version would be "pretty girls in mecha." It gets the mature tag because of some graphic violence, but mostly because of the overflowing levels of teen fanservice, which is sometimes funny, sometimes cringy, and often unnecessary. In many ways, the series could be compared to Agent Aika from the late 90s, both in plot and content, just taking things a step further. If I run this, the game would be taking place on two Earths. It would be starting on the one that the series refers to as the "false Earth," and characters would be made from that background. The action would start after a cataclysmic event that marked the end of the original series, so PCs would likely be original characters, though I would consider allowing a canon character (though there are few that remained on false Earth after the end of the series). If there are enough players and interest, I would also consider running this as a "living" game, opening more options to the players and allowing more players to join. I would also want to see more GMs to help out if this happened. Part of this could include allowing characters from the "true Earth," though they would begin in their own world. This might mean separating players into two Roll20 games, as well as splitting the Discord into channels for each Earth, with players being unable to see the action in the world that they're not currently "on." Also, since the majority of living canon characters escaped to the true Earth at the end of the series, this would be the likely option for players wanting to try out a canon character, though original characters would be possible (if limited in scope). The main body of the game would begin six months after the last episode, marking about one year from the first episode as far as time goes. (Thus, canon characters would be one year older from where they started in the original series.) If anyone chooses to start on true Earth, this is where they'd begin, though characters on false Earth would be playing out at least part of those six months prior, starting with a prologue that sets the stage, and then timeskipped intervals to roleplay out important elements up until the sixth month. It's also important to note that most of the actual action sequences would take place on false Earth at the start, so planned sessions would only include those characters until there is contact between the worlds. This means that the characters of true Earth would be in downtime and character interaction scenes until that contact is made. If this sounds like something you could get into, then speak up while the fires of creativity are still hot, rather than waiting until disappointment cause me to abandon the idea. If you haven't watched Cross Ange, I suggest researching it to see if it's to your liking, and maybe watching the show to prepare yourself if it is.
