New Field Disappears After Added

This is specifically in reference to the Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea sheet but I have had this problem several times over the years, including with D&D 5e sheets. It is as follows: On the character sheet there will be a section (in this case 'Weapon Masteries/New Weapon Skills'), with a form underneath it and the ability to add a new entry form with a (+). I fill in the existing form, and it saves, no problem. I hit the (+) for a new field and it appears, I fill it in, and as soon as I click out of it it instantly disappears. I can see no reason for this to be happening, but it happens with a variety of sheets and has been a problem for at least the past ten years that crops up from time to time. Why does this happen, and how can I stop it from happening? I also will not use Chrome or Firefox because I don't like doing the NSA's work for them.

Hi Dick, I think you may have answered your own question. ;-) https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues Step 1: Make sure to use the right browser Your browser is the software application that lets you access websites, like Roll20. While Roll20 will work in a variety of browsers, in order to maximize your playing experience and take advantage of everything that Roll20 can do, you should use the latest version of either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox . Due to bleeding-edge features, we are unable to support beta versions of web browsers. When troubleshooting, please check to see if issues persist when using both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox It's going to be hard to troubleshoot if your not using either of roll20's supported browsers. That said, the only time I've seen a similar issue to what you mention, is if you use the +Add and create/add multiple repeating items, then start filling in one of them, the other's immediately disappear. That's just the nature of repeating rows. Nothing actually exists until you fill in an attribute's field, then it gets assigned a rowID. But I haven't seen the row I've edited disappear after I've entered something. Can you give a specific example(sheet and field)? That might help diagnose the problem.

Then why does it work most of the time? Only some fields do it. I could understand if it was a failed implementation, but it's a pretty basic form type that most character sheets use all over and it works except when it randomly doesn't - and it's always particular fields.

This sounds like some repeating sections have been named incorrectly with an underscore somewhere in the name, this is a somewhat common mistake made by sheet author(around a month ago, I had to fix one of my own sheets that had this in a section I didn't use myself). Looking at the AS&SH sheet I found that, indeed, the " Weapon Masteries / New Weapon Skills" repeating section was named " repeating_weapon_skills ", which per documentation mentions to lead to problems. On that sheet, it was the only incorrectly named repeating section. I've submitted a fix for this issue, so this should be fixed next Tuesday. Dick M. said: Only some fields do it. If you know other sheets with these problems, please report these problems here on the forums together with mentioning the exact section-name that causes them.

I started doing some investigation on how common this mistake is on roll20 character sheets, and after some command-line fiddling I've already found 15 or so instances of this mistake in the repo. Grep and Regex is a pathway to many abilities some consider unnatural... Edit: here is a list of instances I found having the same mistake, if someone have the interest/time to check and fix other sheets with this problem: RunequestGQS/RunequestGQS.html: <fieldset class="repeating_mp_storage"> Runequest_6/Runequest_6_old.html: <fieldset class="repeating_combat_styles"> Star Frontiers 2/Star Frontiers HTML.html: <fieldset name="repeating_emp_pos" class="repeating_emp_pos"> CthulhuTech_1ed/CthulhuTech_1_ed.html: <fieldset class="repeating_attr_tagermessage"> CthulhuTech_1ed/CthulhuTech_1_ed.html: <fieldset class="repeating_vehicle_rangeweapons"> Serenity/serenity.html: <fieldset class="repeating_hand_to_hand_weapons"> Serenity/serenity.html: <fieldset class="repeating_ranged_weapons"> CWOD-W20/W20.html: <fieldset class="repeating_totem_charm"> Fragged-Empire/Fragged_Empire.html: <fieldset class="repeating_skill_strong_hits"> nephilimV5-vf/nephilim-legende-vf.html: <fieldset class="repeating_vecus_passe"> Fantasy_Craft/fantasycraft.html: <fieldset class="repeating_renown_title"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_combat_skills"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_academic_skills"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_general_skills"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_technical_skills"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_engineering_skills"> Kuro/Kuro.html: <fieldset class="repeating_contact_skills"> Solipstry/Solipstry.html: <fieldset class="repeating_custom_attack"> Solipstry/Solipstry.html: <fieldset class="repeating_custom_ability"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg1"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg2"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg3"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg4"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg5"> Deadlands Classic/deadlandsclassic.html: <fieldset class="repeating_rngweapons_dmg6"> Mindjammer/Mindjammer.html: <fieldset class="repeating_Cre_Cons"> Only War/Only War.html:<fieldset class="repeating_Comrade_Special_Abilities"> ---- Blades-in-the-Dark/blades.html: <fieldset class="repeating_crew_ability"> Pathfinder-DE/pathfinder.html: <fieldset class="repeating_conditional_modifiers">

I have seen intermittent behaviour like you describe, but not with any specific field. Just sometimes creating an extra field in repeating section sometimes fails, and you have to reenter it then it works. Is that the kind of issue you have? Or is that a specific repeating section stops working and you cant add to it at all any more? Dick M. said: I also will not use Chrome or Firefox because I don't like doing the NSA's work for them. I just want to point out that any browser will be subject to NSA snooping, but Firefox is one of the most privacy-conscious of all browsers and is often recommended by security researchers (along with Brave, which is chromium based so might work as well for roll20 as Chrome). That said, if your issues are due to some incompatibility with Firefox and Chrome (and not the issue Andreas points out), there's pretty much nothing anyone can do as they are the only officially supported browsers.
