Mike S. you don't need a character sheet IN Roll20. You can save it wherever you want, and send me a copy of it when complete via email. As long as we are looking at the same sheet while playing, that's all that's needed. I think only the DM can load stuff into the game (even with that, I wasn't able to load character sheets since they come as adobe acrobat files, and the game can't take those as uploads)

January 26 (3 days ago) Dungeon Master James Pro Hi, Warren.. sorry for the late reply.. between my morning evolutions before settling into a game (kinda odd, coming home from church and working on a game with Dungeons. Never understood the religious backlash back in the day, but that WAS when they were blaming everything for juvenile delinquency). No worry about background - so long as you know (a) what species you are, and (b) what role you fit it (fighter, wizard, etc.), aside from drilling in a bit if you want to do one of the specialty classes mutated from the big ones, or play something more from the monster manual than the players guide, you have all you need to roll stats and play the game. Background only serves two purposes (a) gives the player something to do to make the character more to his/her liking, and (b) an interesting background tick (afraid of bees, attack by hobgoblins formed my view of the world, etc) might be a seed for an adventure somewhere down the line. I would tend to do that if the player is playing that character true to the character sheet. If you want to play a human fighter, that's great - we are pretty lean on fighters as it stands at this moment (with more than 70% not having set up a character yet) so they are more than welcome. If you are interested in any of the various offshoots, I set up the Compendium so all can use it (it's a tab in the game, where the chat stuff is).. you can scroll to the bottom of the compendium and it discusses the 'sub classes' and some 'mutli-class' that let you zero in more on exactly what you want your character to be like (fer instance, if your model is Conan the Barbarian from the Robert E. Howard stories or the early Marvel Comics by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith and not so much the Conan running around with Wilt Chamberlain in the movies, look into the 'Barbarian' subclass. that one looks like a lot of fun - if I was a player, I'd have a Goblin barbarian I think :)

So you can choose a simpler class, than after a few levels and you learn the game you can make your character more complicated, but powerful. It doesn't just throw everything in your face day one.

January 26 (3 days ago) Mike S. Plus Warren, Fighter is a great class. Backstory is something you can work out as you adventure along if needed. I usually think of characters from books, movie, or video games I like, and try to add my own twist to them. Think like Legolas, but was a half-elf that was an outcast because of this. It doesn't even have to be a fantasy character, you could take Lennie from Of Mice and Men and turn him into a big hulking fighter. The only limit you got is your imagination. Mike

January 28 (1 day ago) Dungeon Master James Pro Hi, Roland, 3 (so far) players have beyond characters. Don't know how it imports, they just gave me links to their characters I can open on my browser. That works for my needs, I just need to see your character sheet where it is, at the moment. In the game on a character sheet, on Beyond and just using an avatar in the game, both work fine for me.
