Show Macros On Bar to Specific Players

I used to use Roll20 a fair bit a few months ago, and now I seem to be at a loss. I know I've done this before! How do I make it so macros only show up in the macro bar if they're associated with those players? As it stands now, and macro I add to the macro bar shows up for everyone. I've set the macros to only be visible to certain players, but that doesn't seem to work appropriately.

To be clear, are we discussing Macros or Character Sheet Abilities?  - Gauss
Macros, but information on the restrictions involving Abilities would be good to know too. I'm struggling to see the intended use of Abilities vs. Macros. What is the intention behind the design of Abilities? Are Macros meant to be general use and Abilities player specific? After messing around, it seems like a player has to put macros on the macrobar themselves. In retrospect, that's sort of common sense, given the interface. (However, allowing the GM to fully customize the interface elements of a player before a game, e.g. set up a macro bar for them, would be a great feature. It's especially useful for games with new players or players not incredibly enthusiastic with learning large chunks of, I guess, the "under-the-hood" parts of Roll20... Though checking boxes isn't too  demanding...)

Ok, so Macros and Abilities can be either player specific or general depending on the permissions set. They are basically just different ways to accomplish the same thing.  Differences: Quick menu in the chat section: Macros yes, Abilities no Macros are associated with a player. Abilities are associated with a character sheet.  For Macros, if you set the 'Visible to Players' section to a player then they have the macro in their list of macros. They can then checkmark the macro to make it appear in the macro bar. For Abilities, if you set the 'In Player's Journals' and 'Can be Edited & Controlled By' sections to a given player then they can checkmark the Ability to make it appear in the macro bar.  Please let me know if there is still an issue with player's having access to macros they should not have.  - Gauss
Thanks, that clears it all up.
Is there any possibility to not have the character name in front of the ability? Because as it is now, I make macros which are basically: /r @Ability and that's it, so that I can name them shorter.
