Okay, I have been receiving questions on character generation. Let me establish a few basic rules- No evil alignments You have 18 points to create your characters. If you provide a 500-word background(500 words is approximately 2 typed pages) on your character, you will have 24 points. It is a straight point for point buy with a base 10, no stats below 10 before racial mods above 18 before racial mods. This format gives out a character that at least average (10) in every stat and can be made even without a background to into a character that is 18,14,14,12,10,10. Not a bad character at all. If a player wants to have a negative stat of 9 or lower for flavor text of their character, they may. Taking a negative stat does not give any extra points for the creation of said character. Giving players 24 points with a 10 base and a straight 1 for 1 point buy is giving the players far more points than using a standard 34 points, base 8 and having a logarithmic scaled point buy. This is why I do not allow Min/Maxing because I am already giving the players more points than they would receive using the standard base 8 and logarithmic standard point buy. The books I am allowing: Complete Adventurer, Scoundrel, Divine, Warrior, Player's Handbook 1, Savage Species(some races will be vetoed, so please ask first), Book of Exalted Deeds(specifically Vow of poverty and the rules of how to become a saint), DMG, Spell Compendium, and Magic Item Compendium. Please, no home-brews, and do not ask if you can bring a character in from different books than those listed. There is a reason I limit which books. There are things in the various 'Evil' campaign settings books that are highly broken. They are designed to be played in the anti-hero campaign where the characters are the main bad guys and being taken down. There is nothing wrong with it, but bringing in one of those characters in a world where the players are starting off as guards for the city, does not fit. There are also somethings added from other books, such as traits from Unearthed Arcana and some classes from PHB2. After you are accepted to play, I will give you a link to the game which will go more into detail of character creation. If you notice, I am allowing Savage Species. The reason why is it allows players to play a lot of non-human races. This opens up for good role-playing if done properly. But, you will also notice that Savage Species breaks each playable race down into levels. For example, it takes player 8 levels of playing a Minotaur before they can take their first-class level. During those 8 levels, they can only take the normal hit dice that is allowed for a Minotaur. Personally, I like this idea, it means that young a Minotaur somehow joined the human society and they are growing up among the humans becoming bigger and stronger. As the campaign progresses, I will allow characters to come in up to the ECL that the party is currently at. Also, if you are planning on taking a non-standard race, please be prepared to submit a 250-word background that explains why your character is here. Check with me on starting gold, as that will change as characters go up. Also, the standard 1 point for every four levels is in effect, so again that will be granted as characters go up. Starting cash represents the value of items. Craft items are not purchased at a discounted amount. The time off has to be shown in game. If a player builds an item before game, it is assumed they did not adventure for that time period, thus they have less money. This is to stop players from saying they crafted all their weapons, armor and magic items pregame and buy it at a discount. It is very possible to be 1 to 2 levels lower than the rest of the party due to the Experience Cost to craft items. Remember, you are starting with the starting experience of whatever level we current are at. If you use said experience for item creation, you will be at a lower level.
