[Weekly Downtime Thread][Summer IV 1525 HC]

Please post any of your downtime activities below. You can find the full rules for downtime here . You can find last week's downtime thread here. Always remember to be specific about what downtime action you are taking! If you're leveling up type that in your post labeled as OOC! If you're looking into an item be specific about where that item is from, what mission, when you got it, who from, etc. If you write "I read that book I found" the DM is likely to have no clue what you are talking about. If you are learning a language, or tool make sure to write down how many weeks you have been practicing! This lowers the DC, and gives advantage depending on the number of weeks. Also a reminder that players only get one main downtime action per week.
Sithric Sidhefriend With his curiosity regarding become a true Sidhelian settled, Sithric will spend some time in Innishiere with Yarrow. The lands there became more and more like home to him. He will listen around for the latest news of the area and just spend some time shaking off some of his Cohortly burdens. He'll still think about how to deal with the Mieres situation though. He will also embrace his title as his last name, as he no longer needed an identity scavenged from the name of a mother he never knew. Robert Bossouri Rob will be seeing off Prudence, Medi and Agatha as they resign from the Cohort, promising to visit whenever he has enough time. While seeing his friends from the beginning of his career really stings, he'll make up for their departure by doubling up on his efforts on being an effective Cohort member. Thus, he will research in the Cohort Library on ways that other healers before him have improved upon themselves, be it through special training, missions they went on or their biography. ( OOC: Essentially looking for important people that too were Life clerics like him and how they approached missions and what they did in their lives. ) Eirena Lightshadow To be fluffed up. Eirena will, depending on cost, begin working on a fine blade, emblazoned with lightning and thunderstrikes, a longsword of good quality. If it costs more than she can currently afford, she will simply look to take Nasaadi and Savas on a holiday in Treucht, with a modest lifestyle. She was very impressed with the place and wishes to spend some downtime there. She would especially like to see how Nasaadi seems to like the place. At some point, she will ask to speak to the council in the week, regarding Nasaadi's situaion.  ( OOC: Crafting of Masterwork weapon if enough money, otherwise simple holiday, the council meeting would probably be something light rpy I'd think. If that's doable this week. ) Shango Bayu Shango will look forward to wielding the moon sword in the future, but for now, he will replenish his stock of healing potions. ( OOC: Crafting a healing potion ) Valeiros Will make sure to act as obedient as possible inside Titus Rendi's head, while plotting to help the Cohort out, should they ever return here to end these foul miscreants. Rip.

Galena Habivâthu Location: Last Hope, Mispera Major: Levelling - Following her transformation, her adoption and her new home Galena pours effort into being the best Galena that she can be, all these new and powerful changes seemingly leaving her more malleable she is able to deepen her connection to mebhaigl and flood her mind with new knowledge and pick up some useful sills (Leveling up to 6, taking 3rd level in Bard - College of Lore Subclass) Minor: Galena is re-introduced to the Lamias by Matriarch Habivi as her adopted daughter, but not before they've had a chance to have a talk with Amara first so she isnt surprised by it. She then spends her time helping her new clan pack, move, unpack and settle in in Mispera. She also writes a letter to the Siren; To The Siren, Jerusha Fjoldan From Galena of the Cohort Arcanum Hello jerusha. I hope you are doing well and things is still peaceful in your realm. Havent seen ought on the board in your area or heard anything more about them worm cultists so hopefully no news is good news right? Things has been quite different over in this part of the world. Theres this terrifying thing called the void dragon running around that wants to kill dragons and release tiamat, the most powerful primordial there ever was and end the world. Literally. Its got the cohort up in a fuss. And you remember that hag what was troubling the roads? Seems she even had a little part of it trapped in that weird mirror we found in her hut. It got out and blew up a forest and killed poor tristan. Theres another cult out to help it too. Bloody idiots. Since the hag had that mirror keep an eye out for any five-headed dragon symbology. Anyway. Enough doom and gloom. Some good stuff. I got to witness the ascension of a new semi-god. That was fun. Her name is mispera. Shes really nice. Was an awnshegh running a little sanctuary for outcasts in the hills of berhagen and got a Blood sickness so we tried a spell to cure her. Not sure why she became a god instead of being healed but here we are. She reminds me a lot of you actually since shes all about taking in the downtrodden, helping the oppressed and giving refuge to those in need. Youd probably be good friends and I know youve sometimes been worried about your Blood too. She knows intimately what youve been going through. Lastly but not leastly i got some personal news. I got adopted! For the first time i have a proper like 'official' family. A whole bunch of wonderful sisters and my mum is something else. Shes intense and generous and strong and beautiful and wise and decisive i just adore her so much. If you can ever come visit mispera who we're staying with now i'll be sure to introduce you too. Much love and good wishes, Aurbrae Trevelyan Location: Travelling around M üden - Poor Lifestyle Major: Since Aubrae didn't take part in a mission for the Cohort this turn she crosses the Kashika straights and takes to touring around its nearest neighbour M üden, using her power of lay-on-hands to heal the sick and injured.  Minor: Aubrae sends out some correspondence to Lady Tanya Angelwing My Lady, My name is Aubrae Trevelyan. I am a knight in the dedication of Laerme and in the service of the Cohort Arcanum. As you are no doubt aware your neighbour across the Spider, Illien, has had an issue with aggressive axebeaks spilling forth from the Erebannien requiring the Count to place a bounty on their beaks to cull them. This issue seems to be at an end thankfully, however during my work there my party encountered many hundreds of the birds already dead. Starved by overpopulation and competition, with their beaks posthumously removed and yet the bounty for such a number was not claimd according to the Count's records. Tracks suggest that the group responsible for claiming these beaks crossed into Roesone around the mid-late period of Summer III. Cohort records also indicate that you expressed having an issue with axebeaks in your own lands some time before this and so I would like to enquire if you had placed a bounty on these beasts that we were not aware of. Also if such a bounty was issued whether a group cashed in on it in large numbers. Or if no such bounty was placed whether you might have any information regarding a group passing through roesone in possession of these beaks. I believe it is vitally important that this group is found and investigated as our work in Illien also indicated that they may be in possession of a powerful magical artifact of the fey that is capable of influencing the land to a level approaching that of a powerful regency. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter,

He will spend his down time helping the new fledgling kingdom by offering his healing to anyone that might have missed the blessings from the Night of Dreams. Tal, Thrum (Confession to Lady Mispera and asking to become the Hand of Mispera and get the celestial template?) Tal approaches lady Mispera one eve probably not long after learning Low Brecht from her last downtime and a bit before her transformation happens. He asks her to sit and hear him out for a moment. The man seems to be a nervous wreck but resolute about something taking in a heavy breath before starting his talk in low brecht.      "Its good to talk to you again, I am glad to finally know your home tongue and have spent the time learning it from you. Our conversations about our "orphanages" have been some of the greatest moments I have had in ages and I am glad we share this similar responsibility as it has allowed me to get to know you so well over these past months..." His form squirms in his seat steeling himself for something      "When we first found this place I was a bit weary to be honest, but when I first saw you I felt the need to protect you and your people as is my duty as a Shield of Halaïa to protect those in need. At first I saw only my duty but after getting to know you and your kindness I found a kindred heart of another caretaker and the image of the future I hope for if  the day were to ever come when the Azurai blood were to become overwhelming (He has 24 starting off). Seeing that kindness can indeed overcome evil has filled me with hope for myself and great respect for you. So many years defending the wall of Merasaf and gaining tainted blood from the Vos and Orog who attacked my people has kept me away from love. I did not want to leave them behind turning to evil and hurting them, but now I know it is possible to overcome this false self. I see now as I get older all I have ever really wanted is someone who sees the world and its people in the same way that I do, caring for the lost ones who need guidance and fighting evil in our own ways. I know you will outlive me when Kaz and the others bring back that scroll and have you cured, but I ask what your feelings are and if you would have me at your side for what little time I have."  Rejected or Accepted  Tal would pledge himself and ask the following after her transformation (He was at Fort Hope just could not be in the session due to needing to be at work at 4am -_-)     "I have the tenants of a Shield of Halaïa to protect the weak, and serve in the armies that oppose evil. Even before you have become a goddess you were the bastion of hope and all that is good for the few around you, and now you have the reach to touch the hearts and lives of many. Seeing you transform in person was only a confirmation of my feelings towards you and now see that it is my duty to serve (along side) you. I ask that you grant me the title of the Hand of Mispera, the others call themselves your wings but I wish that not to be my title. I wish to be your hand serving always at your side and reaching out where you can not, holding out hope for the lost that need your guidance. Until my final breath I will serve and do the good that I can.  (Minor Action: Caretaker and Moving Orphanage) With recent events Tal wishes to make Mispera his new home but does not wish to leave the orphanage untended in Mersiaf and has a ship chartered to the land and sets up a new home for the children. If Coin is needed Gelena said she would put it forward to bring them over as long as Lady Mispera is fine with this.  Korak (Hip Lantern Creation Week 4) Korak concentrates on making the glass tougher, he tries sturdier glasses that he can find. The first thing that comes to mind are the tempered windows in Binsada that can handle going from scorching hot to freezing in a matter of a few hours. He tracks down some craftsmen and tries to glean information on how to make this sturdy glass. (Minor Action: ) Korak sees about making the stonework has been layered to dwerren spec and asking if a basic forge can be installed on the lower floor so he can possibly train up some smiths.   Hedrin (Minotaur Friends) Hedrin continues on his little quest to recruit some Minotaur or at the very least find out what can be done so they trust the boy. He is a bit saddened that he has spent so much time with their people to be shunned like this and uses his abilities to help around the town to the best of his ability to start making some friends and leads at the very least.

One to the Coldrider for more powerful knowledge of magic and to know if it is in his plan for her to leave Cerilia. The other sacrifice is to the Nightwalker to pay her respect to a being with true mastery of death. ((Major: Phage will level up to Cleric 5. She will then take it off.
Cordie Location : Cordie Tower, The Margreve Cordie returns to her home in the Margreve with Cuddles the Cactus Golem, after having set the ball rolling on the plan to counteract the Void Dragon. It'll pay for what it's done, in time. For now though, Cordie sets about doing what she can to help her home. She would seek out knowledgeable people around Zobeck city, attempting to research methods of healing damage done to the Margreve. She'll begin trying to teach Midgardian to her apprentice Raven, and does not ask any favours in exchange, as promised. Cuddles will live in the tower and help defend it when necessary. (OOC - Major: Researching how to heal Margreve. Minor: Teaching Midgardian to Raven) Saorise Location : Last Hope Fort, Mispera Saorise devotes herself to Mispera. Not for gold, simply to help. (OOC - Major: Providing assistance to Misperan army.)
Darvius Darvius will travel to the new kingdom of Mispera, and present himself to the restored Lady Mispera. "Lady Mispera it is good to see you restored to health and your new kingdom taking hold. The Cohort is available to assist your new kingdom as it does all Kingdoms who seek its aid. I have come before you for two purposes. Number one, when I was last here and we set on the quest to heal you there was an offering of blessing to one of my weapons, which due to your weakened state I said that I would delay the offer until you had been restored to health. Now that you are restored I request the blessed kiss offered for this elven spear, which I shall rename Lady's Kiss in your honor ((I will spend Darvius' 10 renown  with Last Hope for the blessing.)) ." "Second, your new kingdom will need protectors I offer my services free of charge to train an elite regiment of mobile skirmishes trained in my unique style of fighting combining long bow for distance, weapon, and unarmed combat for close quarters. I am willing to be present through the fall and winter to train them personally, when I am not on mission or duty for the Cohort." My first faith is to the Cohort. However I see much potential for your new kingdom and wish to see it flourish.:" Thorg Thorg refines his battle fury into a more refined weapon. Level up to 5.

Baldrick Rust-Bucket Sends his money earned from the mission he earned back to his wife Ella and his ever-growing family back in the poor slums of Daikhar Zhigun.  OOC: Gives 800 gold pieces to his pregnant wife and kids.  Orithar Trisk Orithar after speaking with Leana develops some respect for her after she gave him back the Indigo star. He thinks about what she said. He goes back and waits outside her door until she is free. He gives her the Indigo Star telling her that he would like to find a place to put it where the Void Drachen cant find it until Orithar is ready. Mentioning the creature name fill Orithar with anger and not a hint of fear.  He picks back up the book "Sacrificing Mortals and Summoning Creatures of The Shadow World". Looking to see if he can find the names of any creatures within.  OOC: Looking for names of creatures for use of summoning spells. Even spells he does have access to… yet but are in the book. Minor action: Giving the star to Leana as long as she knows a safe place it can be stored and not found.   Fenris Nathair He makes contact back with the lower ranking Sidhelien nobles who are willing to take him on as a mercenary from the ball and does some small tasks for them to try and get a little name recognition and favor.  OOC: Following on from Summer III 1525 HC downtime (Below).  Without proper paperwork from The Cohort, or otherwise a good reason Fenris has trouble making his way into the court of any high sidhelien noble. He's able to find a few lower level nobles who are willing to take him on as a mercenary. Rather that makes its way up the food chain as promised is uncertain. Dragomir the Black Drago stayed in Urkenhame as his tower get finished, aiding with the final steps. Taking time to focus on the Mebhaighl into the building as Larmedylth said. Wondering what options this opens for the young mage. Drago spends all his time with Nalu. Now they have a roof overhead maybe she can start to feel a little safer. He starts to try and listen but not for a voice but through body language and actions. He wants to just get to know her more, her likes, dislikes. Drago tells her stories of his childhood. How he was pushed out to the sides of his village as a child. How his mother taught him to play the flute, playing relaxing music inside the tower. He will give her a place to write with her tail in the sand if she wishes but won’t force this on her. Before Nalu tries to sleep he spends the evening watching the night sky for her watching the star and the moon.   Major/Minor Action: Getting to know/bonding with Nalu. Tower - Finished 5/5/ 8000/8000
Sithric Sidhefriend Sithric spends some time amongst of the sidhelien of Innishiere. They are good folk, and most of them are just trying to get back to normal now. However there are rumors that the humans still plot to take back over their lands, and a small but vocal minority of citizens are calling on the Faerie Princess to go to war. Robert Bossouri Robert does some research in the libraries about famous healers in The Cohort Arcanum. It appears that most of them died saving someone else, or defending another person to their last breath. Heroic, but ominous. Those who lived a long life are recorded in the membership logs, but few stories are told about them beyond logs saying they were good people. Eirena Lightshadow Eirena spends some time working on a blade, and with her new family. Nasaadi is finally calling her 'mama' and it's quite adorable. She's still pretty rebellious, and throws tantrums quite often. Though what child her age doesn't? OOC: Cost on weapons is 1/2 price to craft. Good quality would require a DC20 check. Currently it takes 4 weeks to craft an item, but we're talking about revising the system in the near future. It's something I might get the mentors on as it's not too complex. Shango Bayu Shango crafts a healing potion. Valeiros Valeiros plots inside of Titus Rendi's head. At least he has an 'ally.' Zahirah Zahirah sings a song, and improves her abilities (levels up). Nardual Robalar Nardual levels up. Zoktqua Levels up in the middle of an existential crisis. Cedrych N/A Salazar N/A Kazamir Volkov (Adam B.) N/A Galena Habivâthu Galena levels up. Galena's letter is responded to. To Galena I am glad to hear you are doing well, and am sad to hear the news about that hag. I have indeed heard rumors of some draconic cultists in my lands, but haven't been able to confirm anything beyond hearsay. I'll let you know if I find anything out, and if it's at all connected to what you're talking about. It might be something different entirely. I'm glad to hear you've gotten adopted, good for you. I am very busy so I do apologize for the short response. Take care. Aubrae Travelyan Aubrae gets a short letter back readying "To Lady Aubrae Travelyan I did indeed have some issues with axebeaks, but the problem is long behind me. However recently I have become aware of a problem in Abbatuor. The countess there, Prudence Duskhart has been having a large number of axebeaks showing up in her realm recently. Perhaps these things are connected? I believe you two are friends. Might you follow up on this matter on the behalf of The Cohort? If need be we could request the Baroness of Roesone, Marlae Roesone put up a reward." Glenn Sturgis Glenn improves his abilities as part of his transformation (level up). He spreads word of this ascension, but is eventually asked to stop by Lady Mispera. She explains to Glenn "I ascended to my position not by the grace of Laerme, but the grace of good mortals such as yourself and my people. Our survival now depends on my relationship with those people. I would ask you not tell others I am connected to Laerme in such ways. If you wish I'll allow you to open up a temple to your goddess here, but beyond that I'd ask you leave us to our ways." OOC: Looks like a mentor already updated the token. Zook Zook helps out around The Cohort. He will need more practice before improving his abilities. Zeek Zeek levels up, and reads . Tal, Thrum Lady Mispera will sadly shake her head to Tal, Thrum. "I am afraid my duty is to my people, and only to my people. I do not have room in my heart to love someone more than them. If you wish to serve as my hand then you might do so, but do remember you do not serve me. You serve our people, and only them." Thurm brings the children from his homeland to Mispera. It costs 100gp to move them all there. OOC: +10 Renown (Mispera), +10 Infamy (Shield of Halaïa) Korak Korak's attempt to remove the curse from Phage's cloak is unsuccessful. It seems to be a high level curse. Korak will need more time with the Binsadans to figure out how to fit this glass into his lantern design. \ OOC: You CANNOT be spending your downtime in Rzlhev helping Phage, in Binsada working on your lantern, and in Drachenward with Drago. Hen Hen learns how to smith from Brognir. She gets her hammers, sigil, and armour all fixed to accommodate her new form and tastes. Hadrian Hadrian levels up. Outside of that he sells the Fate Stone to Korak. With what other time he has he buys some items, and trains his young black wolf Nara. . Theo Theo begins training with Thorkell (week 1 of 2 for multi-classing). He then restocks some of his supplies, but will need more time to research. OOC: Research is a major action. You'll need to post in Presphine's Potion Shoppe in order to buy a potion. Potions are limited to 1 per week per player if you are buying them Raven Raven will need more time to learn Midgardian. Cordie isn't exactly... the most consistent teacher. Outside of that she names her new owl friend Reckles and spends some time looking over spellbooks. OOC: Spell research is a major downtime action. Brognir Brognir digs through The Cohort's library searching for advanced smithing techniques. Unfortunately he isn't able to find anything outside of the basics. He teaches Hen. Phage Korak's spell is unfortunately unable to remove the robes. She goes out, and makes her sacrifice. Rather or not it was successful or not is uncertain, but she's certainly earned new Vos enemies. OOC: +2 Renown (Mistoors), +10 Infamy (Rzhlev) Cordie Cordie does some research with her cactus golem, and discovers that few know how to truly heal The Margreve. Most are old druids, sages, and other people. She's have to track down someone like that to find her answer. Saorise Saorise devotes herself to Mispera. Outside of that she helps maintain order in Misperean lands. Darvius Lady Mispera quietly blesses Darvius' weapon, and fills it with her holy power. She then shakes her head at Darvius' offer. "I thank you for the offer, but we already have such roles filled. You don't need to worry about such things." OOC: If this is your magic spear she is NOT blessing it. She'll only bless a non-magical weapon. Improving magical items takes ALLOT more power (as does making them). Marked off 10 renown. Thorg Thorg practices and improves (levels up). Vincent Heron Vincent learns Aquan finally. The bee venom business didn't go well at all. Niks Ullstein Niks spends some time getting to know his new home whilst practicing his skills (level up). Jannis Jannis digs around for information about The Sword of Roele, but isn't able to find a whole lot. He does discover that its owner would have a strong claim to The Iron Throne of Anuire, and that alone gives the weapon value. It belonged to the last emperor of Anuire, Michael Roele. Kazimir Zima (Physh) Kazimir communes with the shadows (levels up). Savas Al-Hadar Savas spends more time with both Eirena and Nasaadi. The 'dragon child' is uttering the words 'papa,' and 'mama' now. Thorkell the Tall Thorkell levels up, becoming one of Kirken's zealots. Outside of that he restocks on supplies. Nasir Al'Rahka Nasir improves his abilities, and gains the power to see in the dark. Aloysius Rhinehart Aloysius earns 48 silver serpents (NOT silver pieces), and 72 bread pennies performing. OOC: You don't have any experience points listed on your character sheet. Looks like your total XP at the moment should be 1,850 which is not enough for level 4 Helvan Ori Helvan studies, focusing on divination (level up). Hassani  Chorfi N/A Sebastian Mietitore Sebastion improves his abilities as a warlock, and looks around into opening a shop during his spare time. Such a prospect proves to be ludicrously expensive. Baldrick Rust-Bucket Baldrick sends 800gp to his pregnant wife and children. They likely will be blown away by the fortune. Orithar Trisk Orithar leaves The Indigo Star with Leana Stillborn, and gets to reading through his book. Unfortunately he isn't able to find any names of creatures in it. Fenris Nathair Fenris is able to get to know a few lesser known nobles of the Sielewode. Particularly Lady Elana Greyhorn. Dragomir the Black Drago spends some time finishing his tower, and getting to know Nalu. She's a bit nervous around him still, but slowly starts to go less weary. He gets a better idea of when she needs something, but outside of that communication is still difficult.

Cedrych Brightbough Musing on Presphine's words, Cedrych inquires after a tailor instead. He seeks to commission someone skilled enough to attach the hard, anti-magic-beetle carapaces to a cloak. If he has any time remaining, he continues to spend it trying to re-key the magic suppression collar. Salazar di Fioretti After hearing what happened to the Margreve a few months ago, Salazar goes to Zobek. He seeks to get to know the noble lords and ladies of the city and gauge how they are feeling and reacting to the arrival of the Void Dragon. OOC: Court Functionary feature, +10 persuasion. Attempting to find powerful people who may be willing to help us deal with the void dragon via men, resources, or otherwise (trying to get names/appointments/leads, will plead our case during a session). Also trying to see what rumors are spreading regarding the release of the Void Dragon, particularly if people blame the Cohort. Kazimir Volkov Kazimir returns to the Last Hope in Mispera. He spends his time at the forge crafting or repairing weapons, armor, or tools; whatever the newly formed nation needs. He also performs simple, cosmetic upgrades to the equipment of any of the other Wings who wish it, emblazoning their weapons and armor with Lady Mispera's sigil.

Zook Major Action: Zook seeks guidance from Skag asking them to teach him how to do cart wheels, back flips, front flips and other acrobatic tricks in exchange for a small performance of Zook playing the drums. ((Zook will train for proficiency in Acrobatics. Attempt 1 OOC: Apologies for the delay, thought you normally do downtime on Fridays and I had time to find a replacement person to train Zook in acrobatics now that Val is gone RIP))
Skag Polavich While trying to figure out what mission to put himself on, Skag bumps into Zook, who is looking for someone to train him to be more acrobatic. Skag sees this as an oppurtunity to start feeling normal again, and offers himself to train him. (Minor Action: Teach Zook Acrobatics Skill) Yaara Mielahoney Bzzzt.
Cedrych Brightbough Guildmistress Selena Harbeck in Zobeck has recently been rumoured to be quite skilled in such crafts, and seems like the perfect person to such a task (see below). Unfortunately he doesn't have any free time to work on the collar this week. Salazar di Fioretti Salazar discovers that most people don't really know exactly what happened, and hence The Cohort isn't particularly blamed. It's a far off thing to them. He discovers some general information about the government: Zobeck's government is a many layered nightmare to visitors seeking to bend it to their own purposes, but familiar enough to locals who know just how to get things done. For the most part, it serves the master merchants with security and safety for trade, the common people, with justice and fair dealings in the markets, and the poor with work as conscription or ditch-diggers. The Free City Council The Free City Council replaced the Stross-era Praetorian Council after the Revolt. Once composed of hand-picked noble allies of House Stross, the Praetorian Council general deferred to their lord's wishes in running the city and spent most o their time scheming and plotting against one another. They pilfered money from the city to fund their own projects and interests, ruinously taxed the city's bourgeoisie, restricted trade with tariffs on good entering the city and exist fees on goods leaving the city, and used the Watch as their personal enforces to settled vendettas, illegally detain or imprison citizens, and seize private property. Their flagrant corruption laid the groundwork for the violence that destroyed the old aristocracy. After the Great Revolt, the rebels imprisoned or executed any Praetorian Council members they caught. The Revolt's leaders created the Free City Council to administer the city as the Praetorian Council should have done. Its standing Consul members were citizens who helped lead the Revolt and who held strong interests in the city; mostly guildmasters, priests, and even kobolds. The Council is charged with ensuring the welfare of the city and its citizens, protecting Zobkec from all threats to its freedom, and maintain the flow and profitability of commerce within the Free City. The Lord Mayor The sitting Consuls choose the Lord Mayor from among their peers to serve a 10-year term, though most have held the position for life. The Lord Mayor oversees the administration of justice by appointing all of Zobeck's judges, establishing and provisioning the army, appointing all knight-commanders of the Citadel, and commanding the Free City's militant order; except the paladins of the Order of the Undying Sun. The order predates the city's independence and this chapter only serves on the condition that their commander answer to no one "not of noble blood." In practice, the Order of the Undying Sun acts as an independent military force. The Current Lord Mayor Olleck The newly chosen Mayor Constantia Olleck represents the growing dwerren influence in the city, though it has limits; she has sworn to serve a single 10-year term. She took over after the old mayor, Karillian Gluck stepped aside. Constantia showed great courage in commissioning several efforts to drive the fey out, or at least limiting their influence to the undercity and a few of the outlying districts. She speaks wit the shadow fey ambassador, but the two will never be friends. Mayor Olleck is a cheerful, smiling, and hardworking dwerren who knows every alley, every tavern, and every honest (and less honest) person of influence in Zobkec. In her prior mercantile life as a mule driver, Olleck had a way of making any donkey follow her, gentle as a lamb, over rock and declivities and through brambles;l this, wags aver, was excellent practice for working with the Zobeck Council and the Praetors. As a younger dwerren, she spent twenty years making a small fortune as a muleskinner, leading mule trains up to the Oberatal Freehold and through the Silbertal into the Ironcrags. Bandit attacks were rare as she marched into the Ironcrags loaded with grain, timber, and fine brass gearwork; on the way back, bandits attacked for her mule train's silver, metalwork, and sometimes bars of gold, which she usually brought safely back to the city forges, shops, and mint. To this day, matters of trade and banditry are uppermost in her mind, though she also has forged a strong alliance with neighbors against the Mharoti after the fall of Illyria. Consuls Generally descendants of the great Revolt's leaders, the 12 Consuls serve for life or until they receive a 'silent office' (a retirement sinecure). Sitting Consuls fill any vacancies from among the city's most prominent civic leader, typically guildmaster, merchants, or powerful members of the priesthood; but once in awhile, the Consuls choose an adventurous individual seeking a quieter life. By tradition, the Free City Council always includes the Guildmaster of the Arcane Collegium, and the Kobold King of Kings. During the Revolt, the leaders gave the city's Watch commander a lifetime council seat, but secretly decided that, unlike the deal they struck with the kobolds, and the Arcane Collegium, this 'seat for life' would only extend to that individual. Upon his death, the Council did not give the position to his successor, but added a second seat for a cleric of Rava. To this day, this 'betrayal' remains a point of contention between the Council, the Watch. The Watch's current captain, Horvart Edelstein, is bent on regaining his 'rightful seat' on the Council. Current Consuls: Ondli Firedrake: A dwerren priest of Ravan (and Volund), Ondli has served as First Consul, or Council House Chairman, for 30 years. His consul peers selected him to guide the meetings, recognizing him as the most patient and fair-minded among them. Orlando: Guildermaster of the Arcane Collegium, and Consul and member of the Free City Council, Orlando has withdrawn from many of the Collegium's affairs and is spending many days of summer and fall with Aldona Silberhof, a whip-smart sorceress who serves as a Captain in the Runkelstad Wands. While his enemies gossip about his lack of attention to Zobeck's affairs, his friends seem pleased that Orlando has found an equal in arcane matters. Lector and Consul Radovar Streck: Radovar, the city's most famous alchemist, has been promoted to Lector of the Collegium, a title usually reserved for those times when the Guildmaster is otherwise engaged. And indeed, he has promulgated a number of edicts in Orlando's name when the titular Guildmaster has been out of the city. In addition, he seems to be investigating the alchemical properties of shadow with help from a handsome young shadow fey apprentice named Frost, and he enjoys occasional visits from a dust goblin bringing needful items from Maillon and the Goblin Wastes. Sir Jorun Haclav: Field Marhsall of the Free ARmy, Captain of the Zobeck Hussars, Consul, an Master of the Citadel, Sir Jorun continues to expand the hussars and has sent a company of 200 human light infantry to stand with the Magdar on the border of the Dragon Empire. Quetelmak: Kobold King of Kings and Consul to Zobeck, Quetelmak seems like a kobold king who might stick around for more than a season; he has weathered two years since his ascension to the position and consulship. This seat's consul fluctuates with the rapid rise and fall of the Kobold King of Kings in the Kobold Ghetto. Melancha Vendemic: Melancha is the golden-voiced consul, capable of moving rhetoric in the defense of causes and law and security. Her arguments are often carried out through mocking songs in the taverns rather than confined to discussion with other consuls. She has a great ear for what discomfits or worries Zobeckers. Kekolina of the Derry Mine: Kekolina is a long-serving kobold; rather an oddity, but she represents the mine gangs that provide silver and wealth to the city. She is honoured among the mine gangs as having the ear of St. Piran, the local patron saint of miners. She keeps kobold interests always in view. Myzi I. Myzi, called the Mouse King, and Lord of the Undercity, is a consul and (most believe) a corrupt rogue. He has a drooping mousetache, and a twitchy nose, and he seems to always have the news from the docks, the smugglers, and the riverfolk. Lady Wintesla Marack: Lady Marack is beloved as a priestess of Lada for her healing of the poor and the sick. She is also well-connected merchant, selling timber, wool, and tin from Zobeck to the dwerren, the Magdar, and especially in Perunalia. The amazons of the duchy find it more congenial to do business with a woman, so her oxcarts and barges carry much of the Zobeck trade to and from Perunalia. Halsen Hrovits: Halsen is the fourth of his name, and the Hrovits family founder was once known as the 'merchant to the noble House Stross' (an honour they've not mentioned in generations). Hrovitz deals in finished dwerren weapons and armours, as well as raw copper, fax, sheep, mining tools, and he also trades heavily with the kobolds of Lillefor (unusual for a human merchant) for mythriall, iron, and precious gems. Selena Harbeck: Guildmistress Harbeck keeps the weaver's guild disciplined and extremely productive, building, weaving spider automatons to create cloth an d tapestries at a rate no other town can match. Selena opens the guildhall each day with a prayer to Rava, and she is on excellent terms with Consul Hrovitz and Lady Marack, her principal supplies of raw wool and flax. Guild tapestries are especially popular in Bemmea and the Seven Cities; Consul Harbeck often visits both sites on extended business tours and as an unofficial envoy for Zobeck's interests in the south and west. Kazimir Volkov Kazimir spends some time forging, and generally helping the fledgling nation out. Whilst his efforts are important, and well appreciated, luckily Lady Mispera's strength is the main line of defense. Zook Zook beings learning how to dodge, duck, weave, and dodge from Skag. Unfortunately Skag nails him right in the head with a hammer, and he realizes he'll need more practice before bringing his new skills out on ventures for The Cohort Arcanum. Skag Skag thinks about things whilst he trains Zook. Yaara Mielahoney Coming soon(tm) I promise.
