Request to Battlemap Vendors: Please include suggested grid dimensions in a read me

It's fine if they don't exist or if you want to keep the size variable or it simply doesn't matter. My request is more for those situations where artists creating these do have a recommended grid size. For instance I just purchased a pack on Roll20 from a well-known battlemap vendor but there's no suggested size (unless I want to go count the squares on the gridded versions -- which I've certainly done). But on the same artist's patreon page, the dimensions are listed there. It would helpful and appreciated to have them in both places. Cheers

Hi Solanio, As I understand it, this is something that is going to be rectified by the Roll20 team at some point in the (hopefully) near future. When we creators upload our maps, there is an box to input the actual size of the map so that when you load it into the VTT it should come in at the right size, but this has not been fully implemented yet on the coding side. I for one have been guilty of not including suggested sizes on my maps with my first few map sets, as I was under the impression that this function was already working, possibly others were as well. Unfortunately, we cannot edit an art pack while it is active on the marketplace to update this information. I have since included sizes on all of my more recent map sets, and will continue to do so in the future, even after the feature I mentioned is in place. I am also always happy to clear up any queries about my maps via direct communication (twitter/email/discord), I'm sure many of my fellow creators are willing to do the same. Tom
Hi Tom, It's much appreciated. I have some of your maps already btw. Thank you for taking the time to explain what's going on. I didn't know that was the case. Well, hopefully the Roll20 team will take note and create a bug for this or update any existing bugs.  Thanks again for getting back to me.

You are very welcome, thank you for your support!
I always try to call a battle map by its name and dimensions but I’m guilty of not doing it from time to time.

Pretty much every item I have ever created has the grid unit dimensions in the file name. If it does not, then it is intended to be a 1x1 item. The only exception to that is my Hex sets, and those have a read me explaining the ways to handle those with the Hex grid itself. The new upload tool for marketplace creators that was implemented a few months ago has a field for us to enter the suggested grid unit dimensions, and we all had the ability to fill out our old sets with their dimensions as well. Eventually the Roll20's DEVs will create code that grabs that information so that when you drag them onto the map they populate at the intended size, though I do not know when that will be completed. Even after that update comes out though, I will continue to include the size of my items in the file name, as that can be helpful for the DM when they are building a map or scene. Personally I can't wait for that update to come out, as it will be a vast improvement on the QOL for everyone involved, especially for things like spell templates!

On my (very small number of) sets, I include and image that lists the suggested dimensions in both pixels and squares (70px).
