Extreme Lag

1. Myself and my players are encountering extreme lag anytime we play in our campaign.  -When we move our tokens. EXTREME LAG. We have literally not been moving around and exploring with their tokens because the lag is so extreme. -When we roll any type of check from the character sheet. The rolls can take anywhere from 2-4 minutes to actually load into the chat log and be visible. This issue always accompanies when the tokens are lagging. -When scrolling through a map for a campaign. Any map size, no matter how large or how small, has extreme lag when zoomed in or zoomed out.  The lag is so extreme, its gotten to a point where the platform has been literally unplayable, because we cannot move through our maps.This has been occurring every time we have played for 7 months now.  A year ago when we played, we almost never encountered lag, so we arent sure why the change has happened.  We all use Chrome or Firefox, and have cleared our cache's and ensured no addons are interfering with the user interface. All 5 of us have entirely different setups, but I can relay my personal setup information if needed. Thanks for the help!

Do you have many characters in the game? When I've had lag in the past it's usually because the game turned bloated with lots and lots of monsters and NPCs. Moving them to "placeholder game" could help, the same goes for any unused maps or other assets but this will require a PRO account and use of the Transmogrifier. Other things that could impact your performance are the character sheet of your choice (some are more taxing then others) the size of your maps, the number of light sources on the map, use of animated tokens and so on. Advanced Fog of War can be a real resource hog as well.  Speaking of lag, I once had a game break for me, never understood why (even if I suspect that my constant API-tweaking was the culprit) but the lag was unbearable. Making a fresh copy of the game and reinstalling the scripts did the trick and made it playable again. Don't know if that would work for you and your group though.

One noted cause of extreme lag can be using Advanced Fog of War and Global Illumination on the same map. Thankfully, it looks like the upcoming replacement system will eliminate that.

I have an issue similar to OP where my (internet) network usage spikes to 4mbps+ whenever characters move (on maps which are usually globally illuminated), causing horrendous latency which often prevents discord from working at all for up to 30 seconds. I'll try using light crumbs for outdoor areas on our next map, since everyone has light spells indoors at this point anyway.

The Advanced Fog of War and Global Illumination lag bug is well-documented and has led to the option being turned off on many official modules.
