Language Commands

The setting I DM, like a lot of fantasy and sci-fi settings, has a vast array of languages spoken by a vast array of people. I often find myself wishing that I didn't need to skulk around and whisper translations to my players over skype or PMs. What would be cool is if we could assign languages to character sheets, and any player who controls a character can use a command or macro of some sort to "speak" in a certain language, muddling it or rendering it gibberish to any players who don't have a character that speaks it. I feel like it would both make things easier for DMs and also encourage roleplaying. Too often, I find my players saying "I relay that to the group," when I'd like for them to actually think about how their characters would say something.
I'm so on board for this, I'd love for roll20 to have more functions to promote role-playing  it might be further down the line but little things like this would be the kicker that pushes it past other virtual table tops in my opinion.
That'd be pretty awesome, aye. Something like Char 1 says in Language 1: It's raining cars and turtles! Char 2 hears: Kyopo Ryuip Pu? Char 3 hears: It's raining cars and turtles! +1 to this idea.

This is awesome for Text-based roleplays (I love text-based) unfortunately we can't really do much with it when you're doing a chat-based one... As far as implementation hmm...  It might actually be best if it were part of GM permissions on the Character sheet pages. It should be tied to a GM created list that ties to the permissions. So it would work like this: Step 1: GM creates a list of languages English, German, French, Spanish, Portugese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese Step 2: GM assigns conditions to the list, for example: Portugese: If permission is set for the language, read as normal. if permission is set on  (Spanish) but not Portuguese return "The language sounds similar to something you know..." ELSE if not set for a language "The words sound like gibbereish to you." Step 3: GM assigns shortcuts to designate language, for example sp"Hello" is spanish, nothing is English, cn"Greetings" is cantonese ect. Step 4: Set permissions on Assigned character sheets. I actually remember an Adult MUD called Shangrila that had a feature like this for languages. And if you were LEARNING a language (you can teach others languages you know with a lesson once a day) You could actually get random words I think... but I would have no idea how that was actually coded... It was a pretty darn awesome feature for the text-based world.
+1 please!
