Players only see black over entire map - Help!

Greetings, New Roll20 GM here (been a player for a bit though), and I got the module for Descent into Avernus yesterday... and I was working on one of the maps and when I dragged the player ribbon on the Page Bar over to the map I was working on from the cover image page, all the players can see (had a player login to check to see if everything was working) is a big black box over the map (even scrolled all the way out).  I dragged the player ribbon to other maps and still the same big black box.  I feel like there is a setting somewhere that I am missing and I am going to feel really dumb when someone points it to me.  Nevertheless, thanks for your time and help on this all! Chad V.

Something to check; if you are using Fog of War(page/map settings) you must use the reveal tool to uncover sections of the map.
Ok so I turned off fog of war, then advanced fog of war, and then dynamic lighting one by one, and it was only when I turned off dynamic that it revealed the whole map to the players... Not sure why but ya that seems to have helped for the moment, but I'd like to know what I was doing wrong.

I believe it's suggested that you use one or the other; Advanced fog of war or fog of war, but not both since it can cause "issues". I know there are some great changes in the works on the Developers server in regards to this feature, so hopefully this will be old news in April when it's pushed to everyone... Great quote from Keith Think of regular fog of war as a sheet of black paper you put on top of the map on a physical table top. It trumps everything: Dynamic Lighting and Advanced Fog of War. Turning it on is like covering your table with that paper sheet. Using the reveal tool is like cutting part of it away or removing pieces of it. Dynamic Lighting allows you to set real-time sight lines and view distances. You can't see through the DL lines, and you can only see as far as you have light (depending on settings). Regular fog of war still covers that. Advanced Fog of War is like a dim memory of what your token has seen. It's not the same as Fog of War. It's like a slowly revealed snapshot of the map without any tokens on it. Regular FoW is the nuclear option: No matter what else is going on, players may NOT see the obscured area. Many people prefer it to AFoW or even DL, because it is pretty darn foolproof and uses almost no computing power. As GM you know exactly what the players can see.
A new update is coming in April?  Cool. Also, I didnt have both Fog of War and Advanced Fog of War on at the same time... I did have fog of war and dynamic lighting on at the same time.  But once I turned off dynamic lighting, seems to have fixed the issue.  Maybe I wasnt using Dynamic lighting right or needed a light source other than what came in the module maps already?
if u ever wana go of dynamic lighting basics just hit me up in pm ill give u my discord
Check the player token to see if the token "has sight" on the advanced tab.  That might be all it is.
Hey Chad, the whole sight thing had me a bit confused in be beginning too. If you are using dynamic lighting you never want to use the "regular" Fog of War for the reason that Vince has allready explained. When using Dynamic lighting you want to couple it with the advanced Fog of War, since those 2 can work in tandem. For that to work you need to adjust the settings of your map accordingly. A map that has both working in tandem will have settings that look similar to this The other thing that you will have to set up to make sure that dynamic lighting is acutally working the way you want it to is to give the player tokens sight. For this  to work you have to open a token's settings, assign it to a player and then check the "Has Sight" box in the advanced settings. I included an example for a character with darkvision in 5e in the image below. Once you have both the Page settings and the Token settings correct you should no longer have a problem with your players only being able to see a black screen.

@Schwip Nicely said. From my brief testing of the " Updated Dynamic Lighting " system, there should be a lot less confusion over settings.
Thanks guys, that is all really good info.  Vince, those updates seem much clearer than the current system to me.  Also, I'd love to take you up on the discord, will dm. Appreciate all!
