Hey everyone. I've been thinking about starting up an old campaign idea that I've been putting off for a few months, and now that its summer again I'll have a lot more time of my hands. First of all, the basics: - Total party size of 4-5, will decide schedules based upon player availability, hopefully playing once a week. - The world will be entirely homebrew, and any WOTC book is allowed (Tome of Battle, Book of Vile Darkness, even Dragon Magazine material as long as it goes through me first for the OK). - This will be a very high-power campaign, and the players will very likely die if they make the wrong choices in the wrong situation. If you choose to go to an area which I've planned to be far above your level and rush in without any planning or scouting, do not expect any sympathy when that Lich TPK's. Though, I won't be too harsh, you'll have warnings beforehand and chances to escape (to a point) if you're in over your head. - Powergaming is encouraged to a certain point . If you're a Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold or have to draw material for 20 different books, you're going to have a bad time. - I'm extremely open to player suggestion and love to hear feedback and ideas from my players as to what they're looking for in a campaign. A good character background and motivation makes my job a thousand times easier and provides a lot more immersion. - Anything not listed here is still being debated/discussed at this point. Give me a message on Roll20, post here or here ( https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/13726/divisum-est-regnum ), or message on Skype @ hayes.grady.m (with the picture of a coffee mug) if you're interested. Now, on to the fun part: The world (or what you know of it): http://oi58.tinypic.com/rmr59y.jpg (Will be enlarged in Roll20 campaign, with more detail etc). And a region preview (each major city will have lore to this extent) of a region I'm almost done with. PLEASE tell me if you find any errors in the following, it's still under construction: ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Regional Preview: Courtlyn Courtlyn Courtlyn was first settled as a mining town to take advantage of the rich adamantine and mithril ore deposits in the hills to the east. However, after a period of rapid growth and development, raids upon outlying villages by Kobolds became commonplace. Courtlyn was quick to begin using its vast wealth acquired through the metals trade to begin to strike back, and mercenaries and adventurers flooded to the town in an attempt to earn their fortunes. Over the past several centuries, due to unmatched ambition and easily accesable natural resources, Courtlyn has grown into one of the most prosperous and most influential cities in the region. Economy Modern Courtlyn is a melting pot of cultures. As its wealth grew, so did the appetite of Courtlyns ever-growing noble class. Performers, traders, and craftsmen of every sort can be found among its many bazaars, though the wealth of the city still lies in metals. The Forge District of Courtlyn rivals those of the greatest Dwarven cities, though products made of gold and silver may be unexpectedly rare to see - the metals are relatively uncommon in the region compared to mithral and adamantine. Guilds and Unions are commonplace in the city, though their power is relatively limited compared to what they may be used to - the Councils do everything in their power to ensure no one guild becomes dominant, in order to encourage competition. Military The weapons and armor of the Courtlynian military are second to none, as the City-State of Courtlyn claims one tenth of all adamantine and mithril mined from the surrounding region for the use of the state. These ores are put to use equipping Courtlyns elite core of citizen-soldiers in some of the best equipment ever produced, outmatched only by the master-smiths of the Mountain Dwarves to the far south. Though they may be well equipped, the citizen-based forces of Courtlyn are very limited in number: only those of noble blood may fight in defense of their city in the Shining Guard, the cities elite core of shock-troops who make up roughly 5% of the forces. The rest of the military consists of the non-noble citizenry corp (~30% of the total forces), who are provided basic equipment at the cities expense, and the numerous mercenary companies the city employs (~65% of the total forces). Notable mercenary companies employed by the city: - The Forlorn Brethren - The White Sigil - The Grey Band - The Bloodied Eye - The Cravens - The Windguard Government The government of Courtlyn consists of three Councils working both independently and as a unified group: the High Council, the Peoples Council, and the Bloody Council. Typically, the councils attend to the matters they tend to know best, though on certain occasions they convene as a single assembly, such as in times of Crisis for the election of the Stewards of the City. - The High Council consists of the 7 most influential members of the nobility, elected to 5 year terms by a vote in which anyone of age and of noble blood is able to partake. This council deals largely with large-scale financial projects, determination of trade tariffs, and other financial and bureaucratic matters of state. - The Peoples Council consists of an assembly of the commonfolk of the city. Made up of 201 members elected to 3 year terms, this council deals with matters of general public welfare: distribution of welfare and most legal matters. The Peoples Council, being the largest group, has the most say in the election of the Stewards of the City when necessary. - The Bloody Council consists of the leaders of Courtlyns military and mercenary forces consisting of 17 members:11 of Courtlyns citizen military leaders, and one official from each major mercenary company employed by the city. While the minor companies fighting for the city must abide by these decisions, they are free to send representatives to each meeting to speak their concerns, though they will have no say in the results. The representatives sent by the official military of Courtlyn are chosen by the soldiers themselves to serve as both council members and generals, and are elected for two-year terms. This assembly ensures equality among the companies, as well as a place to discuss logistics and military planning.
