Ch. 24: Home of the Female Yuan-Ti Abominations

Dungeon Master (GM): Hello Guys!   Maevis Silverleaf: Yeah choice of 3 doors all have snakes   Dungeon Master (GM): yep   Chris (Balen): Correct   Dungeon Master (GM): you can of course leave the building and continue to familiarize yourself with the city!   Chris (Balen): Ok, let me be stupid - since the group "mission" was "assigned/agreed to" before I got here - WHY are we here? That would help with deciding if there is any reason to explore in these rooms   Dungeon Master (GM): I marked Phicenta and Rowan with Blue Dots for you Buddy     Dungeon Master (GM): The Main Draw for coming here is because the group Knows that the Yuan-Ti are based from this city, having once branched out to the mainland occupying a Castle that Sertrous himself once ruled from before. A Group of Adventurers managed to defeat them at that Castle and took it for their own and followed the Yuan-Ti to the Isle of Dread. Once they rid of an evil naga's influences on the native villages, the Yuan-Ti's and their reptilian/amphibian followers retreated back to the Forbidden City. So Thus, how the party is now roaming the Forbidden city.   Chris (Balen): Ok, so pursuing the "fleeing" Yuan-Ti - so the question of whether these rooms represent "power" for the Yuan-Ti would be a determining factor. Ok, thanks   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, so now, your options here are to either explore more of this shrine-like snake place or exit and proceed to have a look at more of the city.   Jack J.: search?   Dungeon Master (GM): the hallway itself? because if you open any door every room has snakes crawling about.   Maevis Silverleaf: Have to kill the snakes in the rooms first or check out more of the city   Jack J.: this area, around the shrine   Chris (Balen): If I recall, you said that the snake/beast behind the west door was a creature we had never seen before... Correct?   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, i will bring up the main city map hold on yes, a large snake species not encountered before remember now that the structure to the SE is the big walled compound, with bugbear guards roaming along the top of the walls if you wish to just continue looking around the city someone can move the party token   Jack J.: Maevis werent you moving the token before?   Maevis Silverleaf: Yes I was   Dungeon Master (GM): each square = 50 ft on this map   Jack J.: lead on then   Devin M.: I have made it.   Maevis Silverleaf: Left Top building or ruins?   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok Devin!   Balen: Ruins?   Dungeon Master (GM): the one with the pointy tower section is in ruins so no one is around this area.   Jack J.: sure   Dungeon Master (GM): let's see if i can describe the building directly north for you ok, it's a cluster of 3 reconstructed building so likely inhabited. You spot an abomination go into a door to the west lets see if i can bring up a map   Balen: We took down an abomination already - if that's the only one - getting to it before it can get reinforcements probably makes sense. How does everyone feel?   Maevis Silverleaf: I'm game   Jack J.: all right   Buddy D.: im game   Dungeon Master (GM): weird i am having trouble with the Maevis token   Xilicien: Have the characters rested since last session?   Balen: I think the answer is no   Xilicien: +   Dungeon Master (GM): ok loks like he can control that token your last rest was in the Mantru village   Maevis Silverleaf: before we came here   Dungeon Master (GM): right   Maevis Silverleaf: have not rested since then   Dungeon Master (GM): correct, as the party has been sight seeing so to speak you see 3 sets of double doors to the north the abomination went into the double doors farthest from the party.   Maevis Silverleaf: Thats the doors we go to then   Balen: Agree. Don't want to have to fight through other minions to get to the abomination   Maevis Silverleaf: opens the doors   Dungeon Master (GM): locked   Buddy D.:   Balen: So the baddie went in and locked the door behind herself? Hmmm. Do we have any "prep" spells we should fire off before opening the door?   Xilicien: Let's check.   Jack J.: sheila doesnt   Maevis Silverleaf: Not Maevis   Xilicien: I have one shield prepared.   Dungeon Master (GM): of course either of the bards could rally but will that attract attention?   Jack J.: sheila goes invisable   Balen: Let's hold off on the noisy chanting until we see what we are up against.   Maevis Silverleaf: Grax listens then picks the lock   Balen: There is an option - the cube of force...
Dungeon Master (GM): ok, will need the rolls for those of course   Balen: We could open the door and then push through with the force?   Grax Ironcloak the Shield Dwarf Champion / Magsman, strains his/her ears in an attempt to HEAR what he/she should not! Result Whispered to DM   (From Maevis Silverleaf):  HEAR NOISE Roll:  76 % Needs ≤  25 %   Dungeon Master (GM): ok nothing was to be heard by Grax   Grax Ironcloak the Shield Dwarf Champion / Magsman, attempts to gain entry, by PICKING OPEN a LOCK! Result Whispered to DM   (From Maevis Silverleaf):  OPEN LOCKS Roll:  41 % Needs ≤  52 %   Dungeon Master (GM): however, Grax managed to pick the locked door   Buddy D.: ok which character am i playing since a few more showed up   Dungeon Master (GM): Still Phicenta and Rowan, the ones with the blue dots ok so does grax open the door a little to peek in?   Maevis Silverleaf: Grax opens the doors   Dungeon Master (GM): ok he spots a yuan-ti abomination on a pile of furs and silks to his right and another to his left, just right of another pile of furs and silks. (To GM)rolling d6( 1 ) = 1   Dungeon Master (GM): (To GM)rolling d6( 6 ) = 6   Buddy D.:   Dungeon Master (GM): it appears one of them spots you and it's the one to the right as she noticed the door open and sees grax take a peek! what do you do?   Grax Ironcloak The Shield Dwarf Fighter / Thief Says, "Theres two of em in here!!"   Jack J.: we are going to have to kill them sometime plit half left half right? split?   Maevis Silverleaf: Sure   Xilicien: Are Yuan-Ti Cold blooded or warm blooded?   Sheila The Human Cleric Says, "ill silence the one on the right"   Dungeon Master (GM): hmm, likely a combo of both really ok, so looks like we are going in and combat starts after being spotted.   Magic-User  SPELL INITIATIVE ROLL: Yuan-Ti Abomination #06 -N2c the Yuan-Ti Abomination , gets ready to cast a Spell!   Spell INIT Roll:  9  The Rest of the Initiative Rolls deleted for space.

Level 3 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 3  Segments Range 100ft + 10ft/level:  170 ft Indoors or yards outdoors Duration Instantaneous Area of Effect 20 ft radius sphere Saving Throw Vs Spells for Half Damage:   30  Hit Points of Damage! Effects:  A streak flashes from the pointing digit and, unless it impacts upon a material body prior to attaining the prescribed range, flowers into an explosive burst of flame, which detonates with a low roar!! The burst of the fireball does not expend a considerable amount of pressure, and the burst will generally conform to the shape of the area in which it occurs, thus covering an area equal to its normal spherical volume. [The area which is covered by the fireball is a total volume of 33,510 cubic feet (or yards) (33.5, 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes)]. Besides causing damage to creatures, the fireball ignites all combustible materials within its burst radius, and the heat of the fireball will melt soft metals such as gold, copper, silver, etc. Items exposed to the spell’s effects must be rolled for to determine if they are affected. Items with a creature which makes its saving throw are considered as unaffected. Chance of Bardic Spell Failure (15%):  60 %   SAVE VS. Start of Turn 1 for Xilicien (2)   Xilicien: Is the square the darkness?   Dungeon Master (GM): yep   Maevis Silverleaf: Yes   Xilicien the Enchanter, cast the DISPEL MAGIC Spell upon Xilicien! Level 3 Magic-User * Abjuration Components V,S Casting Time 3  Segments Range 120 ft Duration Permanent Area of Effect 30 ft cube Saving Throw None Effects:  When a magic-user casts this spell, it has a chance to neutralize or negate the magic it comes in contact with as follows: A dispel magic will not affect a specially enchanted item such as a scroll, magic ring, wand, rod, staff, miscellaneous magic item, magic weapon, magic shield, or magic armor. It will destroy magic potions (they are treated as 12th level for purposes of this spell), It removes spells and spell-like effects (including device effects and innate abilities), cast upon persons or objects. It disrupts by countering the casting of spells in the area of effect at the instant the dispel is cast. Each effect or potion in the spell’s area is checked to determine if it is dispelled. The caster can always dispel his own magic; otherwise, the chance to dispel depends on the difference in level between the magical effect and the caster. The base chance for success of a dispel magic spell is 50%. For every level of experience of the character casting the dispel magic above that of the creature whose magic is to be dispelled (or above the efficiency level of the object from which the magic is issuing), the base chance increases by 5%, so that if there are 10 levels of difference, there is a 100% chance. For every level below the experience/efficiency level of the creature/object, the base chance is reduced by 2%. Note that this spell can be very effective when used upon charmed and similarly beguiled creatures. It is automatic in negating the spell caster’s own magic. See Spell Description for more information regarding effects when cast upon certain magical objects. on the darkness.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok it is gone   Start of Turn 1 for Camlin (0)   Maevis Silverleaf: Charge in and attack   Dungeon Master (GM): anyone picking up Camlin tonight otherwise i'll roll him     Camlin the Ranger, Fires a FLIGHT ARROW (18") with the LONG BOW (6ft) at Yuan-Ti Abomination #07 -N2c enemy! The effect is not immediate, and the creature feels only a slight tingling on the round the spell is cast. On the round immediately following, the victim begins smiling, then giggling, chuckling, tittering, snickering, guffawing, and finally collapsing into gales of uncontrollable, hideous laughter. Although this magical mirth lasts only a single round, the affected creature must spend the next round regaining its feet, and it loses 2 points from its Strength (or –2 to attack and damage rolls) for all remaining rounds of the spell. The saving throw vs. spell is modified by the Intelligence of the creature. Creatures with Intelligences of 4 or less (semi-intelligent) are totally unaffected. Those with Intelligences of 5–7 (low) save with –6 penalties. Those with Intelligences of 8–12 (average to very) save with –4 penalties. Those with Intelligences of 13–14 (high) save with –2 penalties. Those with Intelligences of 15 or greater (exceptional) have unmodified saving throws. Level 3 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 3  Segments Range 100 ft +  10 ft/level:  170 ft Duration 1  round/level:  7  rounds Area of Effect Special Saving Throw Vs Spells Negates Damage:   7   8   5   5   8   5   4 Effects:  Tiny globes of fire are created, one for each caster level (to a maximum of 10). Any creature or flammable object that takes damage form at least one meteor, must abide by the rules of catching fire, except that the fire lasts only for  4  rounds. Each meteor can strike only one creature or object, but more than one can hit the same target. If hit by multiple meteors, the target needs to save only once, but the save DC increases by +2 for every successful hit after the first during the same round. The meteors are treated as ranged touch attacks, and those who miss their targets are treated as missing thrown splash weapons (Player's Handbook, pg 158) that land on a random adjacent square from the original target, dealing 1 point of fire damage to all within that square. The meteors can be fired with a swift action (allowing 1 meteor per round to be fired) or as a full round action ( allowing up to 5 meteors per round to be fired). In either case the caster uses his full base attack bonus to all meteors. The spell ends when all the fire spheres are gone, when the caster dismisses the spell or when the duration expires. Maevis, using a bit of spider silk, cast the WEB Spell upon Yuan-Ti Abomination #01 -N2c enemy! Level 2 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 2  Segments Range 5ft/Level:  35 ft at level 7 Duration 2 Turns/Level:  14  Turns at level 7 Area of Effect Special Saving Throw Vs Spells Negates or Half Effects:  A web spell creates a many-layered mass of strong, sticky strands similar to spider webs, but far larger and tougher. These masses must be anchored to two or more points — floor and ceiling, opposite walls, etc. — diametrically opposed. The web spell covers a maximum area of  80  cubic ft, (eight 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes), and the webs must be at least  10 ft thick, so a mass  40 ft high,  20 ft wide, and  10 ft deep may be cast. Creatures caught within webs, or simply touching them, become stuck amongst the gluey fibers. Creatures with less than 13 strength, (7 if the webs are half strength), must remain fast until freed by another or until the spell wears off. Missile fire is generally ineffective against creatures trapped in webs. For every full turn trapped there is a  5 % cumulative chance of suffocating to death. See spell description for more info. Furthermore, any flammable clothing or gear is destroyed (cloaks smoulder, cloth sacks burn and spill their contents, and so forth). The dispel magic spell extinguishes this dweomer.   SAVE VS. The creature to be influenced must, of course, be able to understand the magic-user’s suggestion, i.e., it must be spoken in a language which the spell recipient understands. The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the action sound reasonable; a request asking the creature to stab itself, throw itself onto a spear, immolate itself, or do some other obviously harmful act will automatically negate the effect of the spell. However, a suggestion that a pool of acid was actually pure water, and a quick dip would be refreshing, is another matter; or the urging that a cessation of attack upon the magic-user’s party would benefit a red dragon, for the group could loot a rich treasure elsewhere through cooperative action, is likewise a reasonable use of the spell’s power. The course of action of a suggestion can continue in effect for a considerable duration, such as in the case of the red dragon mentioned above. If the recipient creature makes its saving throw, the spell has no effect. Note that a very reasonable suggestion will cause the saving throw to be made at a penalty (such as -1, -2, etc.) at the discretion of your Dungeon Master. All possible subjects receive saving throws vs. spell, adjusted for Wisdom. Any damage inflicted by the caster or his allies in the round of casting grants the wounded creature another saving throw at a bonus of +1 per point of damage received. The magic-user casts the charm monster spell, and any affected creature regards the spell caster as friendly, an ally or companion to be treated well or guarded from harm. If communication is possible, the charmed creature will follow reasonable requests, instructions, or orders most faithfully (cf. suggestion spell). If communication is not possible, the creature does not harm the caster, but others in the vicinity may be subject to its intentions, hostile or otherwise. Any overtly hostile act by the caster breaks the spell, or at the very least allows a new saving throw against the charm. See Spell's handout for Chance to break spell table. Naturally, overtly hostile acts by the person charming the monster will automatically break the spell, or at the very least allow the monster a new saving throw versus the charm, the spell will affect from 2-8 1st level creatures, 1-4 2nd level creatures, 1 or 2 3rd level, or 1 creature of 4th or higher level. The exact day of the week and time of day is secretly determined by the DM.
