After resting for the night in Greenest, the party meets Governor Nighthill and Leosin for breakfast. (Except the cleric, no one is quite sure where he is.) The governor relays that the lord prince has sent a relief package to the town, including for each character a healing potion and 50 gold. Chelnadatilar asks that they keep an eye on the cultist camp, and in particular the dragon eggs, until he is able to come himself. Leosin knows that the eggs were in a large cave at the back of the cultist camp, and believes that Rezmir and Mondath were housed there as well. The loot is likely there, too, but retrieving it is likely impossible. Information is just as valuable, though. Leosin also mentions that some of his valuables were taken from him when he was a prisoner. Once he's recovered from his injuries, he may be able to track some of them magically. The party goes back to the cultist camp, stealthily moving to the cliff tops...only to see that the camp is largely abandoned! Only a few hunters seem to remain. Varcus talks to them but learns little, and they do not interfere with the party as they move toward the cave. All seems quiet until the rogue moves toward the rear of the cave entrance area, when he is ambushed by waiting guards! Fortunately they are quickly dealt with, and a few healing potions deal with the injuries. They see a small passage hidden behind the entrance area, but choose not to chance whatever might be hidden there. Pushing further into the cave, the party discovers a room full of mushroom growths. Lying unconscious is Shazz'm the cleric! The others move to help him and walk right into a group of violet fungi. These are chopped down quickly with only minor injuries. The cleric reports that his god led him to the camp in the night, but that he was ambushed and dumped unconscious by the mushrooms. Had the party not come, he would have been fungus food! Pushing on, the group discovers a room where the ceiling is full of roosting bats. The rogue and monk move carefully to avoid waking them, but alas, neither the cleric nor barbarian have skill in stealth. The bats are roused and fly everywhere, obscuring vision and rousing a group of skirges. These attack the party and draw blood from several. They don't last long, though, as the wizard fries them with his burning hands. Two adjoining rooms prove to hold little of value, just slabs of rotting meat and a garbage pit. A third room contains a few goblins, which prove to be little challenge, and an enclosure containing several ambush drakes. Varcus and Bron stand safely outside the drake enclosure to slaughter them, which is successful but raises enough noise to alert another group of kobolds. These also prove little challenge, and the party discovers their filthy barracks next door. An unfortunate misstep by the monk that trips a rock fall trap is the only injury. Down a passageway from the barracks, the party discovers a shrine dedicated to the dragons worshiped by the cult. Cyanwrath is here, the same half-blue-dragon that fought Bron at Greenest. Bron rushes to once again engage in single combat, and inflicts several wounds before succumbing to the half-dragon's might. Meanwhile the rest of the party has engaged a pair of berserker guards, and defeated them, but are then badly electrocuted by Cyanwrath's lightning breath. With their last strength, they surround Cyanwrath and defeat him. Varcus scores the killing blow, a fact that he will not soon let Bron forget. The dragon shrine contains a treasure chest and is decorated with dragon-themed art. One carving in particular shows Tiamat rising from a volcano, the ultimate goal of the cult. But the party is badly injured and chooses not to explore further right away, instead retreating to the kobold barracks to rest. There they spend the night, with Induris setting a watch to ensure they are not disturbed by any remaining cave residents.
